Queensland is open to NZ but NZ arent capable of opening up to us, Tasmania and Western Austraian untill at least March next year. Our State borders are as strong as any international border.

It will be interesting to see where they are at in 6 months time. The NZ Warriors are playing their 1st 4 games over here next League season because NZ isnt in the position to deal with the Warriors playing at home every second week.

Media whoppers class Scott Morrison as one of the dreaded 'populists' so they have to either ignore Australia coasting through it or downplay any federal contribution (which obviously they wouldn't do for America).

This National Cabinet they formed to cope with covid has been a massive success. PM plus all the State and Territory leaders. Having 7 different Health departments to deal with contact tracing was a big big win.

Morrison has done a good job apart from sniping at the Labor Premiers and sucking up to Gladys at every chance.

As far as I can see based on the full experience of however months it is, internal restrictions seem to have had very little impact wherever you go, with the exception of full police states (personally I would argue this is not a price worth paying). If it's here, it spreads, the only way to stop it has been to stop it getting in. The very few success stories have been the countries that shut their borders immediately and haven't reopened them. Other than that, it seems to have been quieter in poorer countries because - wait for it - no one travels in poorer countries. Which is the African state with the most covid by far? South Africa, of course, the one with the most travel to the rest of the world by orders of magnitude.

The problem is therefore twofold: a) no one could have foreseen the requirement to suddenly shut borders out of nowhere, and no one is psychologically prepared for it now, let alone in February; b) in Europe, particularly, our old friend Freedom of Movement.

Encountered my first anti-masker today, moaning that the sign outside Smyths for all customers to wear a mask was against the countries freedom of speech laws.

Can I just put out some non-educated optimism. Historically, it has been known for a virus to become less potent and harmful the more the strain changesand adapts, etc. This is based on the following scientific research that I've done :

    1. None.

Therefore, I welcome this speedy variant and it's future siblings. This time next year it shall be but a mere head cold.

I hope this has cheered you all up.
    Thanks

In addition to my post above, which is actually based on a study:

What most news media won’t tell you...

The mutated variant is only 5% more transmissible (when first around it was 10% av transmission from human to human contact, now it is 15%....)

The mutated variant has a death rate of 0.56% on the only PHE study done to date....

Hospital bed admissions are not yet at the level of the 2018 severe influenza variant we had...

That does not sound good at all. We had military outside quarantine and running people from the airport at the start we also sent people to our prison islands at the very beginng lol.

The kiwis had the military in the street for a bit aswell.

I don't think our government would actually do it. They'll just keep adding more restrictions that will also be ignored.

    The vaccine needs fast tracking.

They just need to fuck it off here and blame the public for whatever happens. Not that the government aren't culpable for mismanagement but the amount of twats I have seen on facebook who did sob story social media posts about having a 'different' christmas this year then following it up with one about how good their long weekend break in Liverpool was is unreal.

Yeah, I watched some vax/anti-vax thing ages ago and was a bit surprised to see the French leading the world in that sort of stupidity. Would have had the yanks (and by extension the Australians) down as the leading candidates.

The government have been an absolute shambles and they lost all good will over the summer with their handling of Castle-gate. They've not been blameless during the 2nd wave either, but the public are to blame for most of this shit at the moment.

Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and the Northern rivers would pull French numbers I reckon. Also WAGs of AFL and League players seem exercise their privilege online telling people not to vaccinate.

    Failed State.

At least 1 of every 17 people in the U.S. has contracted the coronavirus, and 1 in 1,000 has died. Yet the worst may lie ahead as many Americans travel over the holiday season.

Shit is getting really bad here. Didn't stop half my Facebook having a lovely family Christmas though.

Currently ambulances parked outside Southend Hospital with patients using them as beds because the hospital is full to the brim. They're now having to move patients to hospitals outside of Essex.

It's a good job Simon Dedman is on hand to keep up the quality ANALYSIS the BBC have maintained throughout this.

    Analysis
By Simon Dedman, BBC Essex political reporter

This is essentially the people who are running Essex breaking the glass and hitting the alarm button because they are so concerned about the NHS, and especially the hospitals in south Essex, being overwhelmed and running out of beds.

In some cases there is no spare capacity as it is and critical care beds are in very short supply.

I think what this means is patients will be sent out of county - perhaps the likes of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire - where rates are rising but are not as bad as they are in Essex.
Wouldn't have had a fucking clue what the rest of the words in the article meant without that.

I’d say our restrictions are going to be bordering on April levels when announced later. The one thing they seemed dead against was closing schools but it looks like the Christmas holidays are going to be extended now.

Don't always believe what the hype that the media is telling you.

Or even if you do, consider if they've made these claims before.

    Example from 2018 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42572116

I'm very alarmed by how common place this usage of emoji's in proper announcements has become during all this. You even see proper, official bodies doing it now. Like they're addressing a group of nursery children.
