    TTH Christmas Quiz (Bitesize Edition)

Previous editions have probably been too chunky so this year I will do it in advent calendar form, with one question a day until the 24th. It might be all football/sporting trivia or it might be other stuff, I haven't decided yet. Answers in the thread, obvs. I reserve the right to give up at any time, although hopefully I should be bored/boring enough to carry on. First person to get the correct answer on a given day wins a spoilered photograph of a former Chelsea player of my choice.

    Here's today's question:

    Question 1
This achievement has been realised by 15 different clubs from eight countries.
Liverpool are the only English club to have done it (Man City have come the closest to emulating them).
Two French clubs have done it - PSG, and a much more unlikely side.
Bayern Munich are the only team to have done it three times.
Juventus were the first club to do it, but Real Madrid have never done it.
Steve McClaren once came within a single game of steering his club to this achievement.

    What is it?

We almost did it in 2010, but we let a 2 goal lead slip against WBA after a van der Sar howler.

What SVN said. I'm sure McClaren nearly did it at Twente.

Nope. I imagine that has been done in more than 8 countries.

Nothing to do with clean sheets or death. If we're not any closer by midday I'll add some extra clues.

Clearly to do with success, cos it’s all good teams, rather than an all black XI or something.

Failing to win the league whilst having the best GD? (That must have been done loads of times.)

It was the winning the league part that was warm, not the goal difference part.

Nope to all. You need to get a bit more lateral.

    Extra clue:

Manchester United have never even come close to doing it. Not even the faintest sniff.

Never secured the title at home / away from home?

Only won the title via another team losing, not whilst actually playing?

Right we're not getting anywhere so here's another batch of clues:

No club will achieve it this year.
7 of the 15 clubs to have done it are South American (one of these has done it twice).
Once only, in the 1970s, it was done by two different clubs in the same year.
Diego Maradona put paid to Liverpool's chances of doing it for a second time.

Unless this has a really dumb answer and really isn't an achievement, this might be the best question I've seen.

    I have no earthly clue.

Yep - also Hannover in 1954, and various South American teams at various points (Santos twice).

McClaren nearly did it in 2010 when the Dutch lost the final.

How could that have been accomplised by two clubs in the same year? Is it because one of the South American league splits its season into two?

Yes, in 1978 it was the Metropolitano and the Nacional. By 1986 they had only the one champion, before going to Apertura and Clausura after that (apparently).

Brazil didn't have a national championship in 1958 and nor did Uruguay in 1930, hence Juve being the first.

Still amuses me that Andy Gray blamed Barthez’s positioning for that Robert Carlos free kick going in. If there’d been three of him it would have still gone in. Absolutely perfect.
