According to the search function I have mentioned Die Hard four times on this forum, and two of them were accusing you of initiating conversations about why it's a Christmas film. Have you seen it yet?

gotta appreciate the consistent writing. Still infuriated and delighted that you pick the perfect things which IRL Igor hates the most in the world and making them part of TTH Igor's gimmick. Cunt. And no, I haven't.

Do Christmas movies even get made anymore? No money in Marvel Bollocks at Christmas, or Spiderman Does Yet More Boring Shite With A Santa Hat On.

    Yeah they do.

I've had an advert for "Your Christmas or Mine?" on my Amazon Fire TV homepage for a couple of weeks now. Stars Asa Butterfield.

Seems they're either kids films or awful romantic films though.

Oh actually I've seen posters for a David Harbour action (maybe) Christmas film called Violent Night.

To be clear, there would 1000% be money in it but King Kev's vision doesn't allow for throwaway Christmas films.

Iron Man 3 counts as a Christmas film if Die Hard does, though, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas thing had a surprisingly decent Christmas tune in it.

Couple of great songs. Mildly funny. Decent overall. 7/10 as Christmas movies go.

There seems to be about 4/5 new Christmas films loaded on my dodgy box so I can confirm categorically yes.

My eldest wants to watch star wars.

Question, what order do we watch them in? Do we follow the release dates, or watch the new ones? Thanks.

What intrigues me (take a look on iPlayer or any movie service) are the identikit xmas movies featuring a couple (often multi-ethnic but also a lot more all whites than you'd expect to appease the gammons). They're all written and filmed in the exact same A-level film studies manner. So pointless and mind-numbing but it distracts the masses from the futility of life.

I suspect there's a big element of tax avoidance to them all because they can't be turning much of a profit.

Hallmark films? That's an entire industry of it's own dedicated to making Christmas films.

Violent Night is basically Die Hard apparently so I'll wait for that to hit streaming. The most recent Christmas film I enjoyed is Krampus, horror comedy set at Christmas with practical effects and a decent cast.

That's the first I've heard of it but the 'Christmas Romance' section on iplayer has been duly found and it's definitely not natural. I'm going to conduct a thorough investigation.

Personally think release order is The Way. If you go 1-9 the dramatic reveal in Empire Strikes Back has little impact. I'd also recommend watching Rogue One first if you watch in release order. You can skip the Solo film...

Machete Order is great seeing as it cuts out most of Jar Jar but it might be a bit weird on a first watch.

These are the sort of films that are on Channel 5 in the afternoons from November until Christmas every single year. They are the worst sort of films but they definitely have a following. My wife loves them.

    Thanks for the replies.

We've started with A New Hope (so, release order). It's the only one I've ever seen, had it on VHS when i was a child. Forgotten how good it is!

Started watching Gremlins but my daughter got scared when Gizmo got wet so watched The Polar Express instead. Strange one. Looks like a video game and I don’t understand why Tom Hanks voices most characters, but decent enough for kids I guess.

Also watched Sleepers last night after noticing it's on Netflix. I watched it as a kid in a caravan once and it definitely stuck with me but I'd forgotten most of it.

The scene to introduce Dustin Hoffman as the lawyer is absolutely fantastic.

Polar Express is really weird, and goes on far too long. It got a 4K release recently, fuck knows why. I can't see it benefitting from a new scan the way something like Roadhouse does.

Gremlins is pretty scary for kids to be fair, I suppose if it was released today it would be classed as having 'intense scenes' and 'mild threat'.

I watched Barbarian yesterday. I enjoyed the intro, I enjoyed it on the whole though felt like the third act was a bit weak. I agree with the notion that the people that hate it are probably missing the point, though.

Today I watched Idiocracy, never seen it before. I enjoyed it, definitely something different and holds up pretty well despite it's age.

Got round to watching The Conversation before the iPlayer pulls it at the end of the year. Loved it. Just the brand of paranoid spy shit I live for. Do you think John Cazale would've kept up his fantastic record of picking roles if he lived longer?

Watched them both as a double bill last night which made the second feel noticeably inferior. If the original is a 7/10 Glass Onion is a 5.

Glass Onion definitely getting high on its own supply but I wouldn't say it was absolutely terrible. Just a bit decent, to average.

I saw the Elvis film at the cinema and it's a bit weird. The lad playing Elvis is excellent, but Tom Hanks is not, and the film does Colonel Parker a bit dirty. He was no good at dealing with Elvis' drug use, which was as much a product of the time as anything, but the film makes out that he kept him doing shit films and worked him to death for his own ends, which isn't right. Elvis just pissed through money like an absolute spastic and was more than happy for the Colonel to keep him in easy work except when he occasionally wasn't.

Why do you think Tom Hanks wasn't good? I mean the accent was a bit jarring but I thought the performance was fine. I don't know enough about the situation other than from the film but seems like they were both as thick as thieves and Elvis ran himself into the ground.
