I’m halfway through Resurrection after seeing DS big it up. It’s just a bit too silly for me. Probably because I’m one of the last people in the world who could be emotionally manipulated, I think. Will try to finish it, although it’s been a few days and the inclination to go back is narrowing.

Saw it last night and concur. It's pretty good but definitely different to In Bruges and nowhere near as funny so don't go in expecting laughs.

All I remember from that film is a white woman screams Charlie a lot. Might as well be Indiana Jones and the Temple of Drugs. I should probably give it a proper watch.

I watched two today, The Menu and The Banshees of Inisherin.
The Menu is a high concept horror film that has some nice ideas but I'm not sure how well it would hold up on a rewatch. Moves along quickly enough to not get boring though.
The Banshees of Inisherin, wow. I was avoiding this film as I wasn't sure it was for me. It's slow and dry comedy but I laughed out loud at some of the dialogue, it's beautifully shot, great performances. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but deserving of it's oscar nods.
Both on my list. The copy of The Menu I had had some very hard to decipher dialogue sound and no subtitles so we left it to one side. Wasn't aware it's a horror so may have been a fortuitous swerve.
The Menu is black comedy horror, I enjoyed it.

Have to agree with my German comrades, haven'tread the book but was disappointed by All Quiet on the Western Front.
I thought it was ok, but it's all been done many times before.
Top Gun: Madlad
This is fucking shite as it is basically just the first film but with Kilmer and Cruise with additional botox.
Loved the bit where they were in the big action scene and as Cruise was flying through the skies a literal goose flew next to the plane and he saluted it crying.
Fly fly zip zoop stuff is enjoyable but it's the cheesiest bag of shit since out of date Wotsits. I don't have a hard on for macho BIG MACHINE OILY MUSCLE MEN MOUSTACHE stuff though so mileage may vary.
Does Kilmer ... do owt in that film? I thought he had no voice box?
He types on a screen, whispers four words then that's it. Can barely move his skull due to the fillers.

I went to see The Whale, which was weird and crap, but lol at the cinema. They have replaced all of their seats - as in every seat in every screen - with recliners, which has doubled their ticket prices, which means I won't be going unless I really want to watch something.
Has anyone else experienced this recently? My guess would be that audiences never came back post-bovid, so they have decided to cater exclusively for the people who have to go to the cinema (nerds, families, old people).
Pretty sure the Odeon in Warrington has done that, yeah.
Kinda ruins other cinemas. Especially cos Cineworld in town is about the same price, but “normal” seats. Reel in widnes also has normal seats but it’s cheap as chips so you don’t mind.
I still wanna go the Everyman cinema in Liverpool. Every manwho’s ever been absolutely raves about them.

We used to have a little 3 screen cinema that was a one off, no brand affiliation or anything. It was the type were you had to wear your coat to go if it was winter because it was an old building with shit heating.
Then an Odeon Luxe opened quite literally over the road from it a few years ago. Pretty much immediately killed the smaller cinema, which was cheaper, until I think it was the beast from the East, killed it off.
Someone new took it over after a little while but despite being cheaper, they'd already lost enough business and they folded too.

Watched most of Maverick last night. I assume there was some sort of convincing explanation in the first 20 minutes or so [that I missed] that accounted for the bad guys having FIFTH GENERATION FIGHTERS whilst the good guys were somewhat inexplicably tooling around in F-18s. Obviously full-on super cheese callback mode for most of it [they did a good job making Goose Jr look like Goose] and I know it isn't meant to be 'realistic' but it did seem a bit of a stretch for the plucky underdog Americans to be undertaking some sort of Rebel Alliance style womp rat mission when in reality we know they'd just have leveled every military aspect of the adversary country before installing an inadequate client regime staffed by former executives of whatever industry the adversary nation previously specialised in. Got a bit Con Air towards the end, not to besmirch the excellent Con Air. Music not a patch on the original either.
Maybe the next one will be Top Gun: HIMARS.
Caught the 2016 Bourne movie for the first time, and I kind of hate it. It's obviously not terrible, but there are so many small things annoying me. Cassel is typecast in a way that is really irritating, and changing the story from Bourne volunteering to this explanation makes the first three seem worse in retrospect.
Saw The Whale last night and it was good but not as emotionally devastating as I expected it to be.

AQOTWF cleaning up at the Baftas. Every review has led me to believe it's complete toss. Odd.
I watched Nope and Smile the last few days. Both underwhelming after the hype.
Ticked Black Adam off the list and at this point I'm obligated to tell you that Dwayne says it DID REALLY WELL.
A very 5/10 thing. Everything felt like it was being done fast for no reason, like the film was at 1.5x speed almost. Everything came across as either very cheesy or a little annoying.
Finally watched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, never really fancied it before. It was ok, I enjoyed Cliff's stuff but it's a bit lol that Pitt won an oscar for essentially being a fan fiction superhero insert into real history. The ending especially was cathartic but I was a bit unsure of given how that actually turned out.
The new Luther film on Netflix was surprisingly good. Saw/Black Mirror like elements, I felt like this is the closest to Bond we'll see Elba.
I thought it was a bit poo but Serkis was fun and had magnificent hair and Elba and Crowley always have good Luther chemistry. Didn't feel much like proper Luther though, he should be wading through the muck trying to catch horrible people, not doing a sub-Bond jaunt across the the channel in pursuit of a weird serial killer supervillain.
Wasn't bored and I didn't hate it but I suspect that's the last we'll see of the sort of Luther I really like.
I watched Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III recently at the cinema.
Ant-Man is a bit meh, I felt that the acting was pretty good (especially from Majors) but the story was a bit pants, there was too much forced comedy and it was to set-up a lot of other things.
Creed III was pretty good and I'd say it's better than the second but the first edges it. Majors (again) was very good but there were a couple of little issues with the film. Thought Jordan did really well with his directorial debut though.
All valid points I think I just was happy magical Alice wasn't in it.
There was a point we saw a woman either from behind or in profile or whatever and I thought she was somehow back again.
I honestly thought she was going to be in the car at the end. I didn't mind her original appearance but it was just boring by the end as she could just solve any problem.
Watched this recently and thought it was very good.

Everyone is watching John Wick 4 but I refuse to go see a 3 hour action movie so I'm staying home and watching The Raid for the 10th time instead.

That John Wick run time is ludicrous.
