That would have probably been less intimate than the closeness from some of the old people in there.

Some bellend tried to get shirty with my mrs as we attempted to use an empty till because he had been queuing for it a kilometre down an aisle and therefore unseen to anyone acting normally, then quickly tried to laugh off his initial tone as a joke when he clocked I was with her which was quite amusing

The general fuckery of shopping now annoys me though, I am usually not bothered but in some shops the fannying about and encounters with other customers have made me up for kicking right off with any clever cunts I encounter. Unsurprising it is boiling over in places and laughable some twats expect minimum wage Tesco staff to be enforcing it like the Covid Gestapo.

Lofty sounds like he's on the wrong side. Be a tasty handicap match if you let me have a couple of these melts on my side.

Had an absolute melt behind me on a rare venture into a Poundland on the hunt for Dr Pepper zero (which appears to be extinct in Aberdeen). And by behind me, I mean I may as well have been giving them a piggy back.

Fat, mess of a lady complained about the mask being hot so took it down, and her heroin loving scrote of a boyfriend proclaimed like some sort of genius that she didn’t have to wear one, like him, because she could just make up that she has breathing difficulties.

Natural selection should be wiping these people out, courtesy of Covid. Unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the case.

There was some rotund granny (I say granny, she was probably about 50 but haggard from a lifetime of costco muffins and life on the gritty merseyside streets) who was somehow stood closer to me than my wife in the queue at Costco yesterday, maskless. Dead by Christmas for deffo.

The word going around south Croydon yesterday (I only hang out in the best places) was there will be a 2 week lockdown at half term.

Vallance talking about 50,000 cases a day? We're all fucked aren't we. I'm braced for a six month cultural screaming match between those who are happy and comfortable in a lockdown situation and those who can't afford/abide it.

50,000 a day and only 200 deaths is pretty decent IMO.

    Clubs open please.

Also they're looking at targetting house-to-house transmissions in Scotland, which is great as they are impossible to police (unless you royally take the piss with massive seshes).

50,000 a day? That can't be right. That's 1.5 million new cases in a month. There's only 66 million of us.

It's based on the premise of it doubling each week, and could well be right.

What is it with the exceptions rule then? Surely people who have trouble breathing are the people most vulnerable to the virus.
I would have thought the rule should be 'tough cookies, save your own life by wearing a mask'.

For some people the mask in it's self is dangerous. Granted, the virus would possibly kill them, but self-suffocation doesn't seem like a great strategy to prevent that.

Plus, masks don't protect you, they protect others. It's essentially the same as Herd Immunity.

That I can smell the bakery in Sainsburys is enough to convince me, but aside from unsupported meme's floating around Facebook I've no idea how much protection wearing one gives you / others.

Exactly this. I presume it's the carehomes really racking up the numbers, but yeah, 200 deaths per 50,000 cases is miles from where the first wave was so something smells off.

Based on the numbers they were dishing out earlier re antibodies, 5.3 million people should have had it. Reported cases are not even 400,000 in total.

If so, then the mortality rate would be 0.7%.

This is all so strange. It's just about dangerous enough to understand why we're fucking about, but not dangerous enough for it to be anything but irritating as fuck.

    They do protect you.

The general idea is that masks are good at capturing larger droplets, but smaller droplets not so much (actually the "mid-range" droplets are the ones that get collected with the least efficiency, but no need to over-complicate things). So, when you wear a mask, the large droplets, which contain the most volume, get captured by your mask, while the smaller droplets get through. Those smaller droplets can get through both ways, so whatever gets through your mask will also be able to get through other people's masks.

On the other hand, someone not wearing a mask would be ejecting large droplets. Those tend to fall into the ground quickly, in any case, but your mask could potentially also stop some of them.

The important thing to understand is that this is not a 0/100 thing. It is not like masks capture every single large droplet and let every single small droplet through. They all have a range of collection efficiency per droplet size. They are not one-way either. So, wearing your mask protects you and also protects others.

EDIT: Massive gaps between your mask and your face throw most of this down the drain.

    EDIT 2:

No, because I was outside and nowhere near anyone (except for my wife). Any large droplets I generated would quickly fall to the ground a few feet from me, while the smaller ones would be dispersed by the wind.

My guess based on the numbers we do know is somewhere in the region of 5 to 10 million people. Probably on the lower side of that.

Took my son for a test last night at 7pm. Awful job getting the swab up both nostrils and keeping it there. But got the text at 6pm today to say he's negative, less than 24hrs for a result I thought was pretty impressive (don't think demand is particularly high in the South West though).

A new, persistent cough. Rang 111 as is advised as he's under 5, they said he'd need to get a test so ring 119. Actually was impressed how quickly we got through and booked in - was on the phone at ten to six, booked in for 7.

I don't understand what that will achieve other than run bar staff out of pocket for an extra hour or more's wages.

Might as well just keep their bottle and change nothing, if they're going to do that.

All the pubs I’ve been in have been shutting at 10pm anyway during the week. 11/12 at a weekend.

I hate being out too late now anyway. 11am start until 8/9pm. Perfect.

That's just going to make public transport busier between 10 and 11 and increase the likelihood of afterparties.

Says 6 months' worth, so not a chance it'll be that. I reckon lockdown announced today.

Also got a holiday in York planned for Scottish school holidays which are before English.
