I like the bit in the BBC quarterfinal preview about Antoinne "The Very Uruguayan Frenchmen" Griezmann.

Griezmann met Godin and Gimenez at Madrid airport wearing a Uruguay jersey when they flew back after clinching World Cup qualification - and has said he feels "part Uruguayan".

"It's a nationality that I love, a country that I love and it's going to be very emotional for me."
However, Uruguay's Barcelona striker Luis Suarez had less time for such sentiment. "He is French and he doesn't know what it is to feel Uruguayan," said the 31-year-old.

"He doesn't know who we are or what we must do to be successful in football. He enjoys our customs and can speak the same language - but we feel differently."

    Such a don.

I desperately hope they turn them over.

What’s the context there? Is he from Uruguay originally? Or is he like a backwards Owen Hargreaves?

He's spent time with Uruguayans at the same club. Isn't that enough?

He was born and raised in Macon and there isn't a single mention of Uruguay in his Wikipedia profile, so who knows.

I think this World Cup has been very good really. Less boring games, some thrilling ones, big teams getting knocked out for being shit etc. It was a bit of a joke in regards to VAR at the beginning but thankfully we're seeing much less of it on the knockout rounds

It clearly is. There have been about six Uruguayans there with him so it's not just those defenders, but he's still a tit.

Maybe it's growing up in an International School but how he feels makes perfect sense to me. You always become a bit like the dominant nationality.

It's a very odd thing to be saying ahead of a game where you know the opposition are the biggest chip-on-shoulder nationalist shithouses going around. I guess that's the French for you though.

This is better than holding 2 press conferences, days apart, to announce that you’re staying at the club you’re signed to. What a fucking loon.

I hope Uruguay win it if England don't. An actual football team rather than whatever France/Belgium/Croatia are. Brazil are as well, but fuck Neymar.

You want Uruguay, a team that's even more shithouse than Colombia, to win if England don't?

    Really?

If we don't win I want Belgium to win. Then Sweden, then Croatia, then probably France (ugh), then Russia, then Uruguay and right at the bottom of the pile is Brazil, who would probably be about third in my list if they just didn't have him.

Interesting that Neymar puts an entire nation below the pure embodiment of evil. You must have a room dedicated to dart boards with his face on.

Uruguay are no way more shithouse than Colombia. Godin - Gimenez is great, the midfielders play football, and Suarez, err, yeah.

I saw something the other day about Diego Godin (Player of the Tournament [so far]) being available for not a lot. United could (and probably will) do a lot worse than just buying both of them.

They are more shithouse on average. Not more shithouse than the Colombia we saw yesterday, but Colombia aren't typically like that.

Suarez alone brings enough shithousery to rival the entire squads of other nations. He got hurt on the head with nobody touching him about 4 times against Portugal. I guess he has the redeeming features that it's always good entertainment value and he's at least trying to play good football.

He's never leaving Atleti, I'm pretty sure he's got a coaching role next year. He'll be manager the moment Simeone is out the door unless that catastrophe of a board manage to fuck it all up.

That Mina bloke from yesterday is supposed to be available for next to nothing because Barcelona have too many foreigners, Wikipedia says he's only 6'5" but he looked absolutely enormous.

Get him in and get him (along with the rest of the league) on the Harry Maguire diet, the man looks like the footballing equivalent of Hodor.

He looked alright, if not a little clumsy. Sanchez had the best game I’ve ever seen him have yesterday. He’s got everything.

Carlos Sanchez would be captain of the World Cup worst XI, playing alongside most of the Panama team with poor old Willy in goal and that Seferovic leading the line.

Berg is orders of magnitude worse than Seferovic, and I say that as someone predisposed to liking Berg after he popped one in to do the crash barriers for Hamburg.

Seferovic barely even touched the ball though, so it's down to what kind of ineptitude you prefer really.

I didn’t really see Seferovic at all this tournament. My opinion on him is from all the other shite games from previous tournaments. The Swiss really could do with a decent striker.

Embolo doesn't look bad, they're just too institutionally boring to start him.

Is Drmic dead or just gone shit? He was alright a few years ago.

    Realistically...

    France-Brazil
    England-Croatia

Hence thereforth a Brazil-England final. The Brazil-Belgium game is going to be a bloodbath.

He was playing yesterday. I think the commentator said he’s had major injuries over the last few years. He was definitely meant to have something about him at one point.

Did his ankle/bottom of his shin, Diaby style but not as bad. Post-recovery he's lost his short distance burst so never hits those top speeds that made him scary. He never had the best touch in the world and his finishing was a little raw but it didn't matter when he was rinsing his fullback multiple times a game. Shame.

In Sweden, we don’t judge our strikers based on their ability to score goals (anymore), but on their ability to defend. So Marcus Berg is decent for what he is. I would personally preferr Guidetti, but at this point I really cant argue with Janne.

He also has had chances where it was a great job from the keeper to deny him the goal. While you see other strikers completely anonymous in the game or even worse breaking down attacks. He's still a disappointment overall offensively, but for me Seferovic is miles worse.

Swiss could have done alot worse than giving Derdiyok another go.

That nearly goal against Spain in 2010
