A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood , the film about US children's entertainer Mr Rogers is a nice feel good movie. Not a lot happens, but despite its slow pace, it's a nice change from the impending death by plague.

I’ve done 91 of the top 100 and about 225 of the top 250.

Unfortunately the bulk of the ones remaining are Asian and 2.5-3 hours long.

Lagaan, gangs of wasseypur etc. Fuck off.

I had it in my head that Rotten Tomatoes was somewhat reliable....

EDIT: I get that it is an aggregator.

It's reliable in a "is this film good or shit" way.

The problem is that RT just aggregates on a binary good or bad scale, so if, hypothetically, a film got 99 "eh, 6/10" reviews and one 1/10 it would still score 99. At least that's my understanding of it.

Avengers assemble is pretty highly rated in IMDb also.

Given I’ve attempted twice to watch it the last 2 days and got bored and turned it off tells me enough.

Can’t trust these lists as the general public are idiots.

Going to re watch some of the classics I think. 12 angry men and rear window two I’m particularly keen to watch again.

Yes but this isn't a "problem" provided you don't think it's meant to be an objective "Here are the finest films to have ever graced the screen" list. I look at RT a lot but just as a gauge of whether the film seems to be terrible on its own merits. I usually have an idea of whether I actually want to see it regardless of reviews.

Also any old twat can become one of their established critics if they've been writing their blog long enough so y'know.

Anyway, last night I watched The Breakfast Club for the first time and I'm not sure if the messages it's sending are awful or if its just me looking at it 35 years later. Some of the performances are decent but some of the character arcs are pretty questionable and I don't think even at the time it was as profound as it probably thought it was.

I see your point, but I've seen some really good films that got crappy RT ratings because most critics are spackers. If you have an idea of whether you want to watch something, I really wouldn't let a low RT rating convince you otherwise.

A quick re check of IMDb and totting up indicates I’d seen 91 of the top 100 and 230 of the top 250. Quickly realised “klaus” was available on Netflix so watched it this afternoon and enjoyed it. Nice little animated film.

That leaves me 29 to get after. 8 of which are on Netflix, 1 so old and short it’s on YouTube (Sherlock jr) and 1 on prime (capernaum which actually looks quite good).

The other 19 are a combination of:
Blockbuster films from 2018-2019... all of which will likely be dvd/blu day/rent fairs
Absolutely toss Indian or Asian films that are going to be a nightmare to get hold of
Older films from the 40-50s that nobody really cares about.

Going to work my way through the ones I can, obviously. Unfortunately the ones I’d rather watch are right at the bottom of the 250 and ultimately a waste of time as they’ll dip in and out.

    Capernaum (mon)
    Sherlock jr (tues)
    Andhadhun (wed)

    If my current plan.
At some point I’ll need to sit through lagaan and dangal but I’ll likely save that for when I fancy a nap..

This didn’t go to plan. But capernaum was really good. Shades of tsotsi.

Started watching Sherlock jr but got pulled away, was enjoying it. Nearly 100 years old too which is a bit mental.

Well, I’m about 20 minutes into a film called rang de basanti and its up there with the worst twenty minutes of film I’ve ever seen.

Only another 140 minutes of bullshit left.

Enjoyed The Platform (on Netflix) last night. Fun premise executed well and didn't get sucked into some one dimensional anti-capitalist propaganda (which I would have been up for anyway).

I did watch the invisible guest though and it was magnificent. A very well done thriller. Anyone seen it? It’s Spanish I think, so it’s subtitles but well worth the effort.

One hour in. Enough for today.

They spent 4 minutes singing about clouds.

These Bollywood directors really don’t value Indian film watchers time. I don’t think I’ve seen an Indian film less than 140 minutes long.

    About 20 to go now.

Lagaan wasn’t as bad as I expected but definitely not good. Indian glorified musical about cricket that’s 4 hours long. They could easily have made it 2 hours long. So much unnecessary fluff. British sister lady was hot though, so props there.

My father and my son was really tough watching. Not a bad film by any stretch.

Up next likely either Spider-Man into the spider verse or the handmaiden.

I don’t mind them, I just feel like once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all no?

Bailed on that idea and instead signed up to bfi player.

passion of Joan of Arc is tough sledding. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen/fallen asleep to it before.

Working my way through Tokyo story now..

    Films left:
    Parasite
    Avengers end game
    Averagers infinity war
    Spider-Man spiderverse
    Joker
    Le Mans 66
    1917

    Older ones...
    The handmaiden
    Tokyo story
    Ikiru
    The bandit
    The red shoes
    Ace in the hole
    Andrei rublev ( )
    Pk
    Drishyam
    White heat
    Probably another 1 or 2 I’m forgetting..

Turns out I’ve seen ikiru (it was rubbish). Other two are gangs of wasseypur (5 fucking hours of Bollywood mob) and portrait of a lady on fire.

17 to go after finishing Tokyo story. Hope a few of them are crackers because the whole point of this.. discovering good films I’d not have watched otherwise.

Yes I've seen it. Could do with a re-watch though as I don't remember that much about it other than it was excellent...

I watched The Invisible Man last night and I'd say the praise was justified. Having since seen the trailer, I'd advise anyone to watch the film first.

ace in the hole is absolutely bat shit mental.

Discovered that ‘the bandit’ is online so think I’ll give that a watch tomorrow. Smashing through a load of these films I’d never ordinarily watch when sport is available.

Checked the comparison of how the 250 has changed and in the last 6 years I’d say there’s about 30-40 that was dropped out. Think I’ve seen about 95% of them. Biggest disappointment being the fact I spunked 3 hours of my life watching ghandi for no fucking reason now. Gah.

    Yep. Maguire, Garfield and Holland.
