I’ve just opened what is the nicest stout I think I’ve ever tasted. I’ll know better after another 4 in case it’s just a good bottle.

Treaty City Medieval Quarter. Said it had a high hop profile which was worrying for a stout but it’s magic.

You’ll need more than a single flight to get to whatever planet that cunt resides on.

My mates bar has their own branded cans so they pull draft pints into cans and then you collect them/have them delivered. Was skeptical about the system but had them all for the match tonight (they don't keep long) and honestly felt like pub pints.

They were: Donzoko, Northern Helles. Mobberley, Back to Basics. Deya, See Man's Driving a Belgian Wit & Polly's, Stop and Stare.

Booked in here in 2 weeks and cannot wait! It’ll be my first sesh since Cheltenham Festival, so I’m gonna be a state. A skint state too, looking at those prices, but totally worth it. Any recommendations to have/avoid welcome!

They don’t give the full names so it’s hard to know what they are. Or are they all house brewed?

    oh yeah.

Nah none of its brewed in house. A bit of a pain they knocked all the brewery names off the menu.

As Giggles says that menu is a pain in the tits but from the ones I recognise the Delirium's nice, both the Trappist ones, if the 3 Beanis lervig then yes, I assume the Millionaire is Wild Beer Co which is great. The Milkshake could be one of about twenty different dark beers. if it's Siren or Wiper and True then those are really good. Grand Cru is also bangin'. Everything else I'm either not sure what it is or is decent-to-good but you can get in loads of places and for less than what they're charging.

Like, I really like Lupoloid for example but that's a supermarket effort for me, at least.

It’s apparently a shitter when it’s an unwanted infection. In the right hands it’s great though.
They apparently have their fermenters open to get infected and then they control it with mad temperatures, think some of them ferment for 6 months.

    Yeah I don't mind a brett beer.

Feels like ages since I've had anything particularly noteworthy.

Luckily my Sainsburys have Mousse Moose and Old Engine Oil so even when I'm "slumming" it life's not that bad.

Had this absolute beauty when I was in Boston last week: https://untappd.com/b/trillium-brewi...pberry/3855144

Also approaching 2000 unique beers on untappd... I wonder how much money that is.

I'm just past 2500 on Ratebeer.

I try not to think about the money.

All this because I otherwise can't fucking remember what I've had.

Genuinely the reason I started was because I went into a pub years ago, saw the pump clip of a beer and thought "I recognise that so I must have liked it" and whatever it was was absolutely vile.

Also there's the excitement of going "Gosh, I've never had a Slovenian beer before!" and it tasting just like whatever that style of beer is but from another country. Though it does sometimes help you find / try breweries you may not have otherwise.

    Pohjala.

Even as an enormous beer bore the "first pint" out doesn't hold any excitement for in itself. Can have beer in the house.

    Staropramen's lovely stuff though.

I didn't rate it that much. I think I called it Czech Carlsberg when I first tried it.

A pint is somehow different from draft in a proper glass in a pub. Don't ask me to explain why as I can't.

Once the old dive bar I used to drink in as a 17 year old had a past date barrel of Staropramen on for £1 a pint, what a night

It’ll need to be out though. Like if someone had a proper keg in a house then I still might as well have a can. Same goes for one at a table in a restaurant.

Can’t wait for that first proper one up at the bar.

I think it'd be different for me if I had a local that I especially wanted to be at the bar in but I don't really. There's one I do go to and do have a drink at the bar but that's as much for convenience on my way home as anything else.

Absolutely. A lot of places here are pouring into plastic cups at the moment and it isn't as good.

To go full beer wanker, certain types of beer should be in certain types of glass but I actually just find any draft beer in a glass is better than its canned equivalent.

That's my problem as well but I also don't really have a favourite pint. I don't drink enough for any of it to factor in, to be honest.

No neither do I. Same for certain types should be served at x temperature.

All too much for me. As long as it's cold (real ale can do one) and in a clean glass I'm happy.

Ale in a (glass with a) handle.

Draft lager comes into its own on hot days.

Two decent ones I've discovered during lockdown and which each present their own stigma. Admittedly with only 20% tasting ability so I may not like them quite as much if I fully recover.

Henry Weston cider - minimising volume, a few of these and you're well on your way.

Zinfandel Rose - but by God did it go down like a Capri Sun at 4am on the bags.

I have a set of glasses that apparently has an IPA, Stout, and wheat glass in it but I just like my straight sided pint glass for everything.

As much as I like a big range of craft stuff I never go for the temperature thing either. If someone gives me a pint of any beer that’s not cold they can keep it.

How cold is cold though? Cellar temp is meant, by and large, to be quite cold. Just not ice cold.

Smaller sized beer portions work better on the continent as well (beer stays cold throughout). Draught is well better than cans always.

Yeah, I always thought the 'schooner' was a fairly optimum beer size.

Unfortunately we all develop extreme aversion to halves at a young age. I guess pints probably come from when the beer wasn't ice cold European lager.

Pints only for me. Even if I’m drinking a can I want to put it all into the glass in one go. Anything smaller is for extending the little finger.

220-300ml is perfect. Especially if you're drinking double ipas and the like.

Off to a brewery called Sand City today out on Long Island. Specialises in IPA's, especially DIPA's (8%+). They're fantastic but this is the first trip to their taproom as it involves a cycle and a train.

Tomorrow another brewery called Grimm which is my local has opened up an outdoor drinking space as it's been closed until now for Corona. It's speciality is lovely sours and wild ales. Last time I visited was with @Luca so a long time back.
