People who don't read (not necessarily the papers, but just don't read anything at all) probably have absolutely no idea when it's going to end.

It won't hold past July though I don't think. That will have been the best part of 4/5 months, the worst of the deaths will be behind us and people will just have had enough.

A resident at a Michigan nursing home who had tested positive for Covid-19 pleaded with her Amazon Alexa device to help her cope with her pain before dying alone, recordings have revealed.

LouAnn Dagen, 66, asked the device for help nearly 40 times, according to the recordings given by her sister to local station WOOD-TV

"Alexa, help me," Dagen is heard saying. "Can you help me cope with the pain? Oh, Alexa, I'm going to hurt."

Dagen was one of 31 residents and five staff at the Metron of Cedar Springs who tested positive for the coronavirus, according to WOOD-TV.

Her sister, Penny Dagen, told the station that the home - where she had lived for almost 10 years - had already given LouAnn pain medication.

"I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. I'd take your pain away," Penny said.
    That is fucking bleak.

We’ve no idea. The research that exists suggests there might be some but we don’t have enough data to be sure.

It would be strange if there were no seasonality. Even if heat and humidity don’t kill it they will slow transmission simply on the basis that people don’t crowd together so much in the summer months. But because there’s no immunity the impact of seasonality will be smaller now than in future years.

The media switching from bealing about restrictions being phased in too slowly to shitting themselves with boredom after three weeks of them is a lovely thing to witness. Plus one for the behavioural scientists.

That would make for a refreshing antidote to that blind woman Alexa ad.

Also, lockdown till July? Calm yourself down, man. June will see us out.

I think from June they will start to row things back in the order that they came in. So the shops will open up, then the gyms and that a few weeks later, and so on and so on until we're back to normal by about September to get a mild case of it each before the SECOND WAVE.

I'm wondering if my uni will be online next semester or not. I'll probably go to Montreal either way because five months in Utah will have been enough at that point.

On Tuesday, staff were told by a Home Office scientific adviser 80% of people would get Covid-19 in the end and "we can't hide away from it forever"

According to the transcript, the Home Office deputy scientific adviser, Rupert Shute, told those listening that staying at home was important but "we also have to keep functioning our lives".

"You are no more at risk at the workplace as you would be in your home or at the supermarket. It is about minimising it," he said.
Someone give Shute a kick up the cunt.

Father in law got informed he was being furloughed yesterday afternoon, today is payday. They paid him the furlough rate for the month despite him having worked as normal until being informed yesterday. They will probably claim he is being paid a month in hand but it's a cunts trick.

As well as being a cunt's trick, if it isn't paid in advance that sounds distinctly illegal.

If they're claiming that back and he isn't paid in advance then they're also committing fraud. People need to be on furlough for a minimum of three weeks before you can.

I've seen some right shit cunt behaviour around furlough pay but that takes the biscuit.

Surely anyone who gets treated like that will either end up leaving or working at about 50% for the rest of their employment, you're never going to work hard for an employer like that again.

Company owners are idiots if they don't think that they're going to audit the shit out of any company that as a whiff of abusing the furlough scheme. They'll be handing out huge fines and demanding the money back.

Given the number of applications, the lack of time to prepare the systems and processes and the general ability to liquidate the company ASAP, getting away with fraud here seems pretty simple actually. Already hearing of people who have no need for the grants and reliefs splurging on pointless shit and treating it like a handout

The small business grants are different, by the way. They can be used for anything that the company sees fit. It's the furlough scheme that I'm talking about here, which has very strict rules.

The government couldn't even claw back their full amounts from the loan charge retrospectively and that was all tax dodging bastards, nevermind something like this which is aimed at far more desperate people.

If the company liquidates, there will no doubt be a limited time window. And the Eastern European directors fleeig might shorten that further. The cost due to fraud alone will be eye-watering nevermind the actual full cost of all this bullshit.

Hopefully they change this damn date on it. I understand the fraud risks but you're going to get that no matter where you've pledged money. It just doesn't sit well that you've earned a wage with new employer, you have your wage slips, it shows up in your government tax thingymajig but there's nothing you can do about it. You could ask your last employer to do so but most say no, apparently. I couldn't bring myself to even make that call and ask, it's far too belittling for my liking.

I imagine the fact they had to be om the books at 28 Feb will make the fraud difficult but I'm sure it won't be an insurmountable hurdle.

They really are completely different. The fact you can get it for renting out an apartment on AirBnB is fucking stupid. Basically anything that claims SBBR is getting it other than lock ups, shooting rights and caravans as far as I can see.

One of the main ways I'm seeing it exploited at the moment is people being "furloughed" but still being told they have to work. I know at least 2 companies that are doing it.

We really do need a proper fucking look at how our population use the NHS and also contribute towards its ability to cope (obesity etc.).

It was so obvious that was going to happen, although I guess a lot are from the pubs being closed.

The effect on general health will be significant and spread over a longer period. I feel like there'll be a massive drop in people's sleep deprivation which will make a drastic change, if accurate.

A further 6.6m applied for unemployment in the US? Woah. 16 million in the last three weeks. Also, our death reporting is all over the shop. 140 died yesterday but another 500 from the rest of the week are going on today's figures.

I see Northants Police are threatening to rifle through shopping trolleys to check what is and isn't a necessary item.

This is regional policing's dream scenario, they'll never have it so good.
