The office at work has been whizzed around and among the new things is a radio. Slightly annoying when I'm trying to work but that's not the main issue. Absolute Radio has no repeats between 9am and 5pm and plays a decent variety of stuff that should appease all. Problem being is if you have it on every day, you soon notice it's just the same set of songs on shuffle, but in a different order tomorrow.

Most other things haven't shrunk and increased in price at the same rate as chocolate over the years (at least not until very recently), so obviously sweets are where the real margins are. There was meant to be an updated report published last year, but I can't find it, so have a read of the government report on case studies (appendix four). Under Mondelez, which owns Cadbury, who make the Boost bars in question:
Portion size reduction of seven multipack bars sold in discounters, independent and high street stores was completed, products ranged from 25.6g to 54.4g before, compared with 20g to 40g after reduction. The portion size of two multipack bars sold in grocery channels was also reduced, ranging from 38g to 54.4g before, compared with 32g to 47g after reduction... Prior to the 2015 baseline, as part of the chocolate industry's commitment to ensuring all single serve chocolate confectionery products are under 250kcal/serving, Cadbury Bar and a Half products were delisted.
I'm sure they're happy to squeeze a bit more money out of things, but they're not just making them smaller off their own bat.

It's not as if you can only profiteer by shrinking your product. There will be all sorts going into these decisions, profiteering included.
Costs are always rising. Even if the ingredients stayed at the same level (which they probably don't), fuel and labour are basically always going up, but the price people are willing to pay for their chocolate will rise much more slowly.

The same change in price and serving could also be in response to increased cost of production and distribution.
To prove that this is "profiteering. Simple as" you would have to show that their profit margins mirror the cost cut of shrinkage and the price increases. Which it obviously won't. Because nothing is that simple.
It wouldn't surprise me if they've managed to nab some extra profit along the way, but if you were to check (which I won't) I imagine they're largely tracking inflation. Just spreading it between shrinkage and price increases.

I already mentioned that their profits have increased earlier in the thread. In that time they also relocated to Switzerland for massive tax breaks. It’s just real life. Corporations aren’t your friends and sucking them off is such a weird way of looking at the world.
And proved that it's related to this in particular? Not expanding into new markets? Rolling out new products, etc?
