I was going to suggest the same, the ring, not the scorn. Feels like it's one of those things that has gone by the wayside, along with the fabled mixed grill, and the world is a poorer place for it. Egg is fine, but that's ham, egg and chips.
In a posh pub recently I ordered what was ostensibly ham, egg and chips (with some fancy adjectives around it but that's par for the course). What I got was a badly undercooked pig's knuckle, about 5 flat wide chips, and a whole boiled egg coated in breadcrumbs. Almost called the police.
