Why exactly did they give him that new deal when they already knew he was a waster at that stage? Business decision?

3 out of the 4 people who approved the decision are no longer there. Also think they were terrified of the PR hit that losing Sanchez and Ozil within 6 months would be.

They might have been since 2013, with no-mark outsiders in charge, but back in the day it used to be said (whether or not this was actually reflected by statistics who cares) that Chelsea did well at Old Trafford and United did well at Stamford Bridge. The current Club-Knowing management will Know that about the Club, so I predict an easy 3-1.

Two wins since 2002 from what I can tell with one being against nine men if I remember correctly.

I'm sure there was a year when we each won 3-0 at each other's yard. Beckham always used to do abnormally well against us. Probably in a good mood being so close to Harrod's.

2001/02. I can remember watching that home defeat, which I'm sure was the early Saturday kick-off.

It was Saturday 1 December, which I remember because for some time there was a threat of some kind of players' strike taking place on that day. Can't remember why.

We used to have a similar arrangement with Chelsea, but they blew it by winning the first game of the Abramovich era at Anfield and it's been a right mess ever since.

That was another classic. I think you scored, Jimmy equalised and then Veron rifled in the winner for the falsest of all false dawns.

I've always missed a lot of the April day games (you know, the season-deciding ones played in dazzling sunlight) due to cricket. I definitely missed that one live as I remember coming back to read the match report on the barely-nascent Internet, so that would place it as a Saturday early kickoff. In those days it was just the one Saturday early kickoff and then 4pm Super Sunday, and an occasional Monday night of something like West Ham v Newcastle.

We've always struggled against Chelsea, even when they were shit. I was a nervous wreck in the build up to the 1994 FA Cup final because we'd lost to them home and away in the league. Then we went and twatted them 4-0.

I'm pretty sure Chelsea were the only team Fergie had a negative record against.

Pre-Abramovich we used to be proper big time charlie, game-raising wankers (as befits a side of overpaid ninnies in west London) and Man Utd was the perfect fixture for them to get 'up' for. United were almost bigger than football at that time, until they fucked it with the World Club Cup there were a few years between about 96-2000 where United was culturally the only show in town. You still see the legacy of that little period now in those who glory-supported them at an impressionable age then.

Post Abramovich we've just been pretty good, on the whole.

FanZone would be amazing now between the viral idiots screaming 'LEVELS!' at their opposite number and the nerds wanting to use it as a springboard to serious analysis.

I never really had any animosity for Chelsea pre-Abramovich. I think I even celebrated Zola scoring the winner in the Cup Winners Cup. I've got terrible long term memory (as seen by my constant stat faux pas') yet I remember that win against Stuttgart, where I watched it, what happened in the match etc. vividly for some reason. I remember more of that match than any specific game from the Invincibles season weirdly.

Maybe it's because of the way Farncombe worked, everyone on one side of the bridge (me) went Arsenal and everyone on the other (nickfootie) was Chelsea with a smattering of United/Leeds/Liverpool fans from the North.

Similar experience here. I know I watched it and that Zola scored the winner, but don't remember any details and very rarely do about most things.

Have just watched the goal and was convinced it was in that yellow kit they had in the late nineties, but they wore blue. He must've scored some other big goal in that strip (which was class).

I used to enjoy late 90s Chelsea but it was due to the Italian influence. Vialli, Zola, Casaraghi. Poyet was also a great player who added that bit of skill and guile.

Football for us as young adults was much more pleasant. Watching English teams scrap it out in Europe against teams you never see (or will never see again).

I see Ole Gunnar Binman is talking about The Club needing more than top four, just after Smallpockets was off again at the weekend saying cups ain't shit. There is probably a crack team of ex-Ferguson favourites drafting his interventions.

Is that the cue for us to sign Rabiot I wonder, as we were heavily linked with Paredes.

    Apparently Rabiot is a Kloppite.

I'm not sure I've ever actually seen him play, is he any good or is Veratti their good tenacious midfielder?

Backup in case Jorginho bores himself to death.

We've been in for another since Fabregas left. Sarri loves the sideways squad.

He has stuck with Spurs for multiple seasons despite interest from many top clubs. Meanwhile he has had to watch on as the 'ambition' he was promised has not materialised. If he goes he will be well within his rights, it's far from a Modric situation.

I guess Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United is going to Newcastle.

Good to see MLS start to produce some transfers to bigger leagues with Alphonso Davies moving to Bayern last summer.
