The North Vietnamese started the civil war, and, as much as they have forgotten it, the Americans were on the right side. The least Vietnam can do is pay that piddling amount back if they ever want American assistance against the Chinese.

The Viet Cong were absolute ISIS-like scummers, and the North Vietnamese weren't much better once they started winning. Compared to that lot (and their affiliates) the American involvement was positively virtuous.
I thought the French started the war because they didnt want to give up Vietnam as a colony? And the Americans sent in Military advisers in well before the Yanks officially got involved.

It ended up being temporarily partitioned when the French pulled the plug (pending theoretical reunification elections/the assumed collapse of the southern state), which was when the Americans stepped in to support the non-communist half against reality. They should have let the Australians run the actual war.

The interviewer is just bad enough that Trump probably comes across ok for most of it (once the over analytical media there rinses it) from the bits I’ve seen, not that anything would matter to his supporters anyway. He’s some fucking joker though.
Does he really come across okay? The only clip I've seen is where Trump is talking about the number of cases (did you know America has less cases than The World? Incredible, give the man the job for life) and the guy says he was asking about cases per population and a flabbergasted Trump says "You can't do that."
I may see if I can stomach the whole thing, maybe in the rest of it he comes across as intelligent.
