A mother took this photo. Her two primary school aged sons are in the boat with her. They're out on the Mallacoota lake with around 5000 people as an out-of-control bushfire heads straight towards them.
Crowds are being told they may need to enter the water if the flames continue to head their way.
It doesn't look like it but this picture was taken in the daytime. The Victorian coastal town of Mallacoota woke up to a blood-red sky this morning.

One of my cousins and his fusty bird have set the date for their hetero civil partnership next autumn and invited me. I really have absolutely no idea why you would want to do that and not marry. Or rather, if you don't want to marry, why would you want to to do that?
I will not be attending.
To get stuff from people but still be able to preach at dinner parties that the idea of marriage is like so archaic.
I suppose the legal aspects of marriage could be attractive enough in their own right to justify those. The real plague are those 'naming ceremonies' that are literally pointless.

They really need to do something about these dangerous driving sentences. Ten months. I bet if you chinned him the day he came out of prison you would get a year.
Elsewhere, this massive Asian rapist insisting on trials so he could prove the dozens of videos he had of him bum-raping unconscious people were consensual is right up there.
Dangerous driving usually gets pretty harsh sentences where we are - it’s not uncommon to see people get a few years, even if it’s just causing serious injury rather than actually killing someone.
You’ve got to go some to get put in prison for a punch, on the other hand- most ABH & GBH get community sentences.
