Virgo is quality, people don't understand what a good commentator is nowadays. Look at all the losers who are employed as number ones in football now when we used to bask in Davies, Motson, Moore, Tyldesley and Tyler.

I watch on Eurosport/TNT because BBC fucking off a match an hour in to put on Gardeners World is shit behaviour.
I just happened to have BBC on last night because that’s what the wife put it on and I noticed Virgo getting loads of basic stuff wrong. If his mind hasn’t gone, his eyes have.
That woman in the crowd with the "There's always a gap!" T-Shirt was surely 'asking for it' in the Pavelian sense.
Wouldn't mind havin' a shot to nothing at her oi oi
Jimmy and Yevrah liking Virgo hasn’t half confused the shit out of me.
I only put BBC on if Hendry is in the box
That just summed up the crucible crowd. Clapping away after Williams pots the black whilst he’s stomping the floor due to losing the cue ball
This is warming up very nicely. Virgo excellent as always too.![]()
Williams is winning this. Still get 5/1 for the tournament as well which is insane value
A mental health segment. FFS.
Yeah, this guy has a chancer driven grift on the go, doesn't he?
The only thing that annoys me about Virgo is when he goes "hmmm, well, I, crucible semi finalist 1979, wouldn't have played that shot, and he's paid the price".
Trump on the ropes here. Cracking match.
Offft, that’s an outrageous break starting with them first two shots and ending with the last red
Yeah, loving the Alex Higgins style arm swing on that plant too. 12-12 please.
These two do love a deciding frame. Can think of two this year and then that semi the other year
I see Saudi Arabian Ambassador for Snooker Ronnie o'Sullivan has decided that he wants to go and live in the middle east.
I wonder where he thinks the world championship should move to?
As much as I like Ronnie, of course he's a fucking Dubai dickhead.
"Dubai Dickhead" tickled me and paints such a vivid picture of the type.![]()
This hasn’t been close at all today. Williams streets ahead. So many long shots potted with ease
I enjoy pretty much all of the snooker pundits. Murphy is a weird little dork but I don't really mind him. Mark Allen is the one I think an absolute weapon.
See Steve Davis about at experimental music stuff every now and then, sometimes off his face. Legend.
I've grown to not hate Murphy as much, but there needs to be less of him, having him commentating during tournaments he's not yet been knocked out of is especially wrong.
I used to hate Allen but i think it was just cus he was a big fat thuggish looky proddy so I unfairly just got No Surrender vibes. Also that Reanne Evans is quite annoying, in fairness to him.
Was going to query on here if anyone knew how non-sessions were dealt with from a ticketing perspective [is it 5th day of a test type treatment?] and the answer is apparently yes, get fucked, no refunds.
Harsh.
Do they not at least trot some of the oldies out for an exhibition or anything?
I don’t half like the bottling bastard type of sportsman. Williams was brilliant but Trump absolutely shat the bed

Davis must be absolutely sick of talking about '85.
Needs to hire Hendry as a mentality coach.
I also vividly remember him saying after he won his first that due to the Crucible curse he had a free swing at the title the year he defended it. More loser talk.
Tbf I'm not fully convinced it's entirely a mentality problem, I just feel like he's a bit inconsistent and much better at shorter match formats, I feel like he hasn't quite got the stamina. That might be a lack of mental stamina, but that's a bit different to being a bottler loser or whatever.
Especially not compared to someone like poor old lovely Ding, who is the least resilient sportsperson I've ever seen, bless him.
Except for Jimmy White of course.
I think he exaggerates it a bit, but I think Mark Williams is my favourite, he basically harnesses his own not giving a shit to make himself impervious to pressure.
I don't think it's exactly a question of tone though, more the quality of the content. I'm certainly not a purist for serious, dry analysis - I know I dId say he's a bantery annoying irritant, but it's more a question of execution than intent.
I find when he actually talks about the snooker he's quite crap and uninformed, and the "funny" stuff is just really annoying (though I guess that's a matter of opinion), and honestly quite lazy and phoned in. I know he's really old so i don't really blame him for it, more the BBC for putting him on.
To give a comparison, Ally McCoist is like the quintessential bantery colour commentator, but he's really great cus he's actually quite funny, but also very insightful when he wants to be.
i know you say cricket and snooker are very different but I don't think that's a reason to just accept crapper commentary. TMS I think is a great example of being a bit twee and cozy and silly, while also providing genuinely interesting analysis. I don't see why snooker shouldn't aspire to that. I know you had people like blowers, but he was used far more sparingly.
I'd be curious to see examples of this uninformed stuff he says or (as accused upthread) where he makes mistakes. I was watching him earlier with a more critical eye as a result of comments in this thread and I just can't see it. As Jim says his tone is perfect and for me, he knows his shit.
An example of genuinely crap commentary is Dennis Taylor's "just a little bit of tension" when a player misses, which he uses time and time again and is meaningless drivel.
The obvious one I can remember off the top of my head is this one, where he gets the free ball and 3 miss rule completely confused and incorrectly thinks you need to be able to see both sides of the ball for the 3 miss rule to be enforced (you only need to see a red full ball, which O'Sullivan could).
I will admit that I may be somewhat blinded by how annoying I find him though. I also think he's far more tolerable when he has one of the really good anoraky ones on with him.
We've come a long way from the debates of Hazza and Henners, lads.
Henry > Ruud
Suppose we can do that one again as managers now. Both shite.
Every now and then i think to myself... It's 2025 and somebody still insists that these guys wear dinner suits and bowties
It's preposterous, but I think I kinda respect it. Like Wimbledon.
Bang up for this. Can't see any way that it won't be at least a good final and could be a cracker.![]()
The run of the ball Zhao is getting here is outrageous.
There is no way back from that.
Lad just gets down and smacks everything in. Top talent.
I alwyas looked forward to this every year like it was Christmas for a 5 year old. I think YouTube has fucked me up but I can't watch 10 minutes straight now.
Probably technology as a whole more than YouTube.
