Oblivion is a weird one, it's an odd middle ground between the brilliance of Morrowind and the inch deep schlock of Skyrim all with bizarre shiny playmobil faces and a god awful scaling system, yet some of the writing and quests still managed to poke through and leave an impression. Not sure I would trust Bethesda to remake it any better than the original though.
I bloody loved Skyrim but bounced off Oblivion twice. I hear closing the Oblivion gates is a bitch.
There were too many of them, and by the point where they might have been interesting you've seen enough. A bit like how dragons in Skyrim were fun for five minutes but after a while you just run away so you don't have to bother with them. Oblivions best bits were some of the guild questlines and the sidequests.
Game pass day 1. I loved Skyrim as well so will probably give this a bash.
Any news on how this has been remastered? Like improved combat or levelling system?
Nothing yet apart from a few images leaked. I'd be surprised if they didn't do some improvements (hopefully to the bollocks persuasion system in dialogue).
Oblivion was the first one I played so I have a lot of affection for it.
Man, if this has vague Fallout 4-ish dialogue options, it's done for.
This one had dynamic difficulty, right? Never liked that.
I remember the Oblivion Gate shader would slow my PC down to 3 FPS but only if I directly looked at it, those fights inside Oblivion were among the most skillful and infuriating things I ever did.
Any remake must capture the true character of the original.
It's out.
I've downloaded it.
And on Gamepass. Looks like a long overdue win for Bethesda.
After the most ludicrous download size I think I can recall I now have about an hour to play it.
120GBs for what is essentially a 2006 game under the hood.
Yeah, I have no idea how it comes in at that size. Madness.
Looks lovely mind.
They are.
Deluxe Edition comes with the horse armour for an extra tenner.
I'm away so not had a chance to play this but it looks massively different to the original (in a really good way). Some nice improvements to a few systems it looks as well.
I can not do the lock picking in this. I’ve watched a number of videos and just can’t. I’m giving up on playing it on the Xbox on the tv just so I can use a lock pick mod on PC.
I blame getting old.
It's quite fun seeing people, 25 years later, reaching the same conclusions just from the other direction (you can get an unbreakable pick and just mash auto).
It can’t be as hard as the nonsense in Kingdon Come Deliverance, can it?
Is it any worse than the Skyrim one? It being there at all was the bigger issue at release.
Funny carrying a massive magic axe around and having to fiddle with locks.
Lock bashing didn't even make it to Morrowind, Bethesda not in the habit of adding systems/complexity back into their games. In fact didn't they remove open spells for Oblivion leaving you to learn the minigame or just not open stuff.

I love the "open this lock" spell. Been ripping the arse out of that one and resting a lot as well. Gotta love unlocking a door only to find it's just barrels of cheese.
Was reading this earlier: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Quest_Timing if you want to plan out your quest sequence
