It was Ł72 back in 2007 so we're getting a relative bargain these days. Having said that, it must cost them half the price to make the thing now because they're flimsy as fuck. My wife has a Brexit one and it's the shits. My EU one is tough as old boots.

Thinking of doing New York for my 40th, wife also wants to do a Norwegian cruise at some point. Any tips for either appreciated.

For NY, do you mean like "things to do" or bars/restaurants?

My sister's finally given me dates for a proposed NYC trip. September. Ł1500pp. Not a chance. March is too soon for her which is currently half the price.

Tips? Standard stuff like booking the trips out to Ellis Island/Liberty Island. Book that stuff in advance. I didn't bother with the Empire State building but you do get a top view of the city from there. Another one you definitely need to book in advance for. Manhattan's fairly walkable but the subway's convenient. Just got to tolerate the homeless and the rats. I'd recommend walking the Brooklyn Bridge but it will always be busy. For something close to peace and quiet, Central Park is nice.

Can't say much about food/drink because I most hit the food trucks for convenience. As for museums and such, I bloody love the Intrepid. It's a big aircraft carrier that I loved poking around in. And it has a Blackbird on the flight deck. And a Concorde. And a Space Shuttle. And a Submarine. I didn't visit the 9/11 one but I wish I had.

Both. Also is it better to book a package flight and hotel or separate, any hotels to avoid? Want to tour the Ghostbusters locations like Hook and Ladder 8, the library, Tavern on the Green etc if possible. There's actually an Ecto 1 replica tour that does it all but costs a lot. Think the wife wants to do the natural history museum too. Will mix it up with eating cheap and a nice meal or too, a good steakhouse maybe.

Package just makes things easier. If you want to save, always book separately.

Trivago for hotel, Skyscanner/Google for flights.

Yeah, I take packages because it's one less entity to deal with. Extra helpful if ... for example a worldwide pandemic stuffs your holiday.

My knowledge is a 5 years or so old, so bear in mind, but I'd probably try and stay in Manhattan if you can. Brooklyn/Williamsburg also good options if you don't mind being a little out the centre but the Metro is fine for getting around.

Museums/stuff has mostly been covered above. I like the Rockefeller Center and the view from Top Of The Rock. Other than that just hit all the major stuff like Times Square (meh, but check out Katz's Delicatessen), Central Park, museums etc. My wife did a tour of Staten Island which she said was cool.

Beauty & Essex was a restaurant we went to that was pretty cool

We stayed in a box room opposite the Empire State Building and it was cheap-ish. Tiny, but excellent location.

Just arrived in Bangkok and they've confirmed that the police will have to come on board to arrest someone.

It appears that a guy kept touching a girl next to him and a guy in front warned him. He did it again which resulted in the guy in front smacking him over the head with a metal water bottle.

Was trying to find a direct flight from Phuket to Koh Samui for later this week and none were showing on the date I wanted, not even on the airline's website.

Was resigned to taking an indirect flight but the best one's on Skyscanner were not available when I clicked through.

Decided just to take a punt on Googling the flight and it found me the direct flight via Bangkok Airways' website (which wasn't showing at all on their site) and about 95% of the plane was free and I was able to book it.

What the fuck is going on there?

Make sure it's the legit website. There a lot of website out there, with slightly different URLs pretending to be legit sites. For example, we have VietJet, and there vietjet.vn, vietjetair, vietjet.com and many others scamming people.

    Well I know why now.

I booked it for the 22nd March...

Thankfully there were seats spare on today's flight and they changed it for free.

What a fucking mong I am.

Odds on getting a refund for the March flight?

Edit: I can't read properly. Free change. Result.

Was a really fun plane journey too.

72 seater small plane and Samui airport is tiny.

    Here's the arrivals terminal:

Glad I didn't have to wait a month to see it.

We went to Amsterdam last week, very cold but very nice. Also the first time anywhere without the five year old which was like some kind of magical dream, as much as we love her. Hotel was an arty poncy one where there was no reception, instead the staff were just 1/2 people hanging around on laptops and the breakfast room was continually restocked with pastries and later in the day, pick 'n' mix for some reason. Instead of a bar anyone staying there had free run of the fridge so it meant at least I didn't have to pay money anywhere to find out jenever is absolutely rancid.

You could genuinely have a decent holiday in Samui airport. If the weather improves get yourself up to Jungle Club Mahow. Really nice food and cracking views across the whole of the island. They'll pick you up to save the monstrous walk up the hill too.

One of the waitresses mentioned that Jungle Club, she pretty much gave a rundown of the whole of Samui.

Did request a booking for Tuesday lunch time but because the weather is shit (and is predicted to rain for pretty much all of my stay) it seems it's going to be booked out due to the limited indoor seating.

Was chilling on a sun lounger by one of the pools and had to run in as it started absolutely hammering it down, just look at the forecast ffs:

    Here until Thursday...

"How much does it rain on Koh Samui in February? It rains very little in February – it's typically the driest month. Total rainfall is just 30 mm (just over an inch), spread across an average of 5 barely rainy days."

Happened to pick the 5 days.

Yeah, same here. Fucking annoying. I genuinely cannot remember it raining in February... Yet we are getting the odd every now and then. Fucking Tories.

It's non-stop rain here today and they're forecasting 35-45mm of rain throughout the day.

The average total rainfall for February here is 25-35mm...

    Absolute fucking shit.

At the Jungle Club for lunch.

    Views are insane.

Sadly rain came so had to move inside.

Also went to Koh Mad Sum today aka Pig Island.

The boat ride over was choppy as hell and I think I'd have been drier had I swam over.

Greeted by about 20 fucking feral dogs on the pier who were just nipping at my heels constantly whilst I was trying to walk round. Pigs were all clearly starving and not swimming around in the sea happy like the photos.

    Absolute horseshit.

Looks like they've updated the card, and Mahow's boy is out. Skeptical about the replacement though.
