It just needed Demi Moore's gaping ring piece to make it an 11/10.

I watched The Day of the Jackal for the first time yesterday, was glad it lived up to it's hype. Noticed The Jackal is currently on iPlayer so watched that this afternoon, a pale imitation but I may have rated it higher had I not just seen the original. Apparently there's a tv series coming out next month so good timing I suppose.

The Jackal is one of those that just was on way too much on the telly while I was in my teens, and it was always a good watch even if it's not an incredible movie. Bruce is great in it.

The scene with the weapon test is etched into my mind.

I did say it was a minor criticism.

Yeah Bruce is good in it I just think there was a lot of conventional choices, especially the parts that directly called back to the original that weren't done as well.

The Sidney Poitier/Richard Gere being Irish double act was also a bit off at times, think it would have been a lot better if it had a US Marshals/Fugitive/In The Line of Fire by the book veteran investigator methodically chasing him down like the original rather than what they went with.

Edward Fox was a lot more convincingly charming then coldly murderous in an instant, Bruce's Jackal is deliberately just cold and indifferent for the majority.

    The Substance is tremendous.

Also, I completely disagree with Serj and actually think they should have shown more of Margaret Qualley's arse.

Remembered watching Harry Brown back when it came out (must've been 2009ish, when working for Blockbuster) but couldn't remember what it was like. Watched it again last night; the 'gang' are a bit cringe but it's a very satisfying revenge film.

Watched Housebound tonight. It's from 2014, so not exactly new. It also wasn't really a horror, although it did remind me of The Babadook in someways.

I enjoyed it, anyway. A comedy horror, but not in the goofy ScaryMovie way. Very well done.

More like that please $teve. (I'm fairly safe in assuming you've seen it, right?)

Course mate, he ended up doing M3gan, which was surprisingly decent if a whole bunch of nothing. There's not too many decent things similar to it (haunting, house only kinda comedy horror vibe), but plenty of decent house only kinda horror. Give me an exact idea what you're looking for and I'll sort a list.

The balance of Comedy and horror in particular is what I enjoyed. I liked that the comedy isn't the whole point of the film, but it's there anyway. And the specific type of Comedy, I guess. It's very Australian which probably makes it alot more niche.

Yeah I really enjoyed it, even though I've never really considered re-watching it. May do so now you've reminded me of it.

Whenever I think of the film, I always remember what a miserable old git Michael Caine was at a book signing I went to around 2010 - didn't even bother to look up at people as they came to the table. The guy in front of me said "I really liked Harry Brown" and Caine responded with "Oh good, I can rest easy now."

Tbf I think once you've done a film with muppets, nothing shines that brightly anymore. 30 years in decline.

    MadS

On Shudder. French horror, the best horror. Opens with a lad at his dealers, taking some weird new drug. Off his tits, driving home pre-party and some lass smacks into his parked car. Climbs in. Things escalate. Single take, ramps it up wonderfully. So so fucking good, not just one of my favourite horrors of the year, but favourite outright films of the year.

Heretic is pretty good but the final third or so lets it down.

Some good acting though, especially from Grant.

Gladiator 2 is class. Maybe not quite good as good as the first one but not far off. Go see it in the cinema, it deserves a big screen.

The trailer for 28 Years Later is a bit good. Rudyard Kipplings Boots fit it very well.

The film will no doubt be a let down now.

Everyone should see Conclave. It’s a great film with an interesting story that’s well told. It can be a little slow at points but every scene is so incredible to look at you can look past an occasionally dull 3-4 minutes.

Heretic is alright. Hugh Grant in good form, but it's about 20 minutes too long and has to stretch the premise too much as a result.

    'Twas the Text Before Christmas

A thought provoking film from Netflix. The thought it provoked was that it's utterly shit, but the ginger lass was tidy.

I love the way laddo just witters on to his earpiece with a guy sat right behind him. Such a stupid immediate plot hole.

I watched Gladiator II on the telly, and I thought it was really good. Any unfavourable comparisons with the first film can probably be put down to Paul Mescal having less than zero charisma (and a slight look of Peter Sellers at some angles), where as prime Russell Crowe had loads and loads so was able to smooth out any ropey bits.

Better Man is indeed fantastic. I had a lot of fun watching it and it also got a lot darker and deeper than I expected, but in a good way. I thought it was (largely) very well done.

Annoyingly Queer wasn't showing at the cinema near us. I should venture further afield a little to see it really, I enjoyed the book a lot.

Better Man does seriously intrigue me. The premise sounds bananas, but everyone I’ve heard who has seen it says it works and I find Williams and his life a pretty interesting subject anyway.
