I assume finding more bats had the counter-intuitive effect of making the impact of the development MORE SERIOUS and thus the conditions more onerous even though there are loads of them and they probably aren't at all endangered.
How many of them do there have to be before they aren't endangered?
EDIT: the honourable gentleman covers this above.
Far be it from me to turn this into the macroeconomics thread, but UK showing 0% growth for Q3 (revised down from 0.1%), at a time when there is billions being borrowed and hundreds of thousands of immigrants coming in, which should both be boosting factors. How on earth are we managing to be this useless?
Absolutely criminal corruption.

The balloon strikes again.
Isn’t Roundhay Park where Sutcliffe did most of his work?
There and Chapeltown (right next to it) iirc.
Britain's Waterways are rivalling his record.

Jay Slater's spiritual successor, apparently the guy was well known locally as an absolute roaster so probably played silly games with dangerous people.
Been a bit of a shit day in murica.
“Terror” event in New Orleans and then a cyber truck explosion outside trump hotel in vegas.
Welcome to 2025.
Grooming gangs looks like it's about to kick off. If it ever kicks off properly, it will level the British establishment.
There are many towns, largely in the north of England, where Pakistani (for the most part Mirpuri) men ran grooming gangs targeting white children in the 2000s/2010s, in some cases including gang rape and worse. Many groups of them have been convicted and jailed sporadically over the years but it's starting to come out a) how bad the offences were and b) how assiduously the authorities have suppressed details and reporting of the issue in the name of 'community relations'. Another issue is that many of those convicted haven't been subsequently deported because of their human rights or whatever.
What's the difference in this one and all the other stuff that gets posted online? Is there something more concrete this time that doesn't just let the authorities scresm 'far right' to make it all go away?
I think there's just been a vibe shift and the 'left' for want of a better term are standing on shakier ground than they have been for 20 odd years. But they'll still be doing that and may well be successful.
Where are you seeing all this Jim? Unsurprisingly the BBC seems to have nothing on it.
They do seem to have gone big on a Woman who suffered indecent exposure over a video call and the police not doing much about it. The lack of effort on their part very shocking until you see that the perpetrator was based in India. I mean, FFS.
If it gets to the beeb then that's when it's out of control. They'll do literally anything to avoid that.
Just yesterday the government rejected a request from Oldham council for an inquiry.
Basically Jess Phillips went big on protecting women and girls when she wasn't in power, and people have decided she hasn't or isn't doing so. Not sure that's necessarily fair, but the knives are out regardless.
Jess, Oldham and Tommy Robbison are currently in the top 30 trending topics on Twitter. Featuring some charming tweets, like this one:
I don't think this is new information, but it's the first time I'm seeing it. I imagine if this was happening in July, we would be back to wanting are cuntry back, and there'd be people burning shit again, but luckily it's fucking baltic out there.
Still, I agree with Jim. It's a tinderbox out there at the moment.
Happy New Year.
It started because Fraser Nelson (twat) wrote about how Britain is the most successful multicultural society in the world because he works for the Times now and he had to, Sam Bidwell asked him to explain himself, which he couldn't, and then a load of top quality right-wing accounts started asking him how many instances of Mo Salah putting a Christmas tree up cancel out all of the Pakistani raping.
There's no new information, but there's momentum forming behind it in the same way there was with the post office stuff (also not new information) this time last year.
The issue the right have, is that even when they're right - which they are to an extent here, those men should be deported the second their sentence ends (where possible) - they just can't help but be unbearable about it.
Twitter is dripping with racism and you can see them slowly getting more and more comfortable about it. Which will obviously eventually lead to arrests and oh here we go again. Two Tiers, Piers Tears, Keirs Fears and Elon fucking Musk being smug, which is just completely off putting to anyone that shares their concerns on this issue but isn't a wing nut, so they'll achieve nothing.
I'm not sure why Elon is quite so into it but our political class need a nuclear bomb to go off over their heads, so if this is the one then great as far as I'm concerned.
Kind of. It's more to do with institutions being afraid to look racist rather than not liking racists. Also, these were vulnerable girls, which people often imagine to mean shy little girls that wouldn't say boo to a goose, but in reality it means that many of them were known to the police and social services and seen as trouble makers, and in many cases were treated as if they were bringing this on themselves.
The whole thing really is a national scandal and that inquest needs to go ahead.
I hadn't seen those transcripts until now and I wonder if the Maxine Peake (was it) drama thing had the opposite effect to the post office one, in that it seriously downplayed what happened because you literally can't put that shit in a tv programme and people didn't think it was 'that bad' as a a result.
I'm seeing it a lot more too. The mass moderates/casuals/whatever are collectively getting swayed by immigration. It's unrelated to the grooming gangs but I think the huge influx of Indians is the straw that's broke the camel's back in regards to finally wanting actual policies to keep everything in check. Brexit give us a taste of it but the next GE is where we'll really see the winner decided (and the resulting political direction) by this topic alone, unless Labour get their head out of the sand in a serious way in the next few years.
They were 'afraid to look racist' precisely because they didn't like racists to the extent that they considered them and their ideas to be worse than thousands of rapes (see also: terrorism, knife crime, etc.). You know how when somebody shoots a load of kids in America and people like you go 'How many dead kids will it take', and the answer is that they don't care? It's that.
I also think that the Southport murders pushed this closer to happening, because - although this was a very different incident to the grooming/rape gangs - you saw the same instinctual response from the authorities, particularly from Merseyside Police, who wanted to close everything down in the name of avoiding 'community tensions' rather than tell the truth about who he was or what had happened, and by this time the sands had shifted on these issues far enough that the average person saw straight through it and could both condemn the stupid rioting that followed but also have a withering view of why information on whatsisname was withheld so furiously.
Well no, it's because being seen as racist (or biggoted in anyway) is a death sentence. It was only last year that heads were rolling in both the Fire Brigade and Police forces for sexism and racism. So, unfortunately, these girls fell victim to those in power safe guarding their own careers, rather than them.
That's alot more solvable than the Septics and their love of guns.
It's a 'death sentence' because it's an article of faith to these people and the institutions they inhabit. It's not actually against any law to point out that certain people commit more of certain types of crime, as opposed to actually being a racist or whatever, but these people conflated the two and made it a form of career suicide to do so. The same fate would befall any prominent Republican who wanted to ban guns, regardless of whatever sensible (to anyone else) points they might make.
Sure, but the obvious difference is that the answer to solving school shootings, is banning guns. Something Americans love. The answer to stopping rape gangs, is locking up rapists. Something very few people love. That makes it solvable. We just need someone with the balls to make the necessary changes and that appears to be the depressing sticking point in politics all round at the moment.
Brown and brown. It's common knowledge you don't get white child rapists.
Lots of rapists and child abusers were locked up whilst these particular rapists were not even being investigated. The issue was not that we didn't have any police or prison spaces, as turned out to be the case when some of them were eventually done (derisory sentences aside), but that the authorities put 'community cohesion' - something they love - above rape victims. The answer was there all along, but, like the gun nuts, they chose not to see it.
The obvious lead is knife crime, which is a largely black-on-black affair, but non-whites are massively over-represented in pretty much every type of crime especially violent and sexual ones. Black kids routine stabbing each other is a similar issue in that that will only be solved by policing the 'black community' a lot more actively, and putting a lot more of them away; but nobody wants to do that, not when we owe the Windrush people so much, so the stabbings will continue.
There are a lot of white chavs who also groom kids but the authorities chalk that one off as 'lifestyle choices' on behalf of the victims.
That's exactly what they did in Rotherham/ Rochdale/ wherever. The difference is they're not forming organised gangs to pass them around and the police aren't completely paralysed for fear of angering the white chav community.
I don't think anyone is saying noncing is a racial issue in and of itself (bar maybe Lewis). Infact, the feminists (and Magic) would argue its just a men's issue, and it's hard to disagree really.
Your first sentence explains the 'racial issue' referred to in your second sentence. You are being stupid.
I don't think noncing with a different strategy makes something a racial issue. Nonces are nonces and the police should feel empowered to prosecute them all regardless of race. Much like a white stabbing and a black stabbing.
I just love how Social Justice always manages to worsen the things that they claim to want to fix the most.
I think they are going to say that THIS noncing is absolutely a racial issue, and that's the aspect of this story that is going to be so different to what we're used to, because over the last 20+ years (certainly back into my school days and beyond) we have all been conditioned to think that you can't reasonably pin any specific malice at the door of a specific ethnic group unless it's the white majority. That's now going to unravel because of the sheer scale and prevalence of this among let's say Pakistani men (though in reality I think it's specifically Mirpuri men for the most part).
I genuinely think that if this goes a certain way it could flatten whole swathes of established public life. It may well not, but that's a possible outcome.
Nothing will happen under current leadership for precisely that reason, but a worthwhile party could use it as a means to re-build half of the administrative state to suit their purposes like what New Labour did with the Stephen Lawrence fallout.
Interesting thread here.
