I had one of those in the local Porko restaurant and I thought the sauce (or at least their version of the sauce) ruined it.

The sauce I had was a lot lighter in appearance than most of the pics. It was also served on a massive heap of fries with an egg on top, so it was like some sort of ham, egg and chips meets chips, cheese and gravy leviathan.

I wasn't expecting that description as I'd clicked the link earlier and thought it was some sort of chocolate tart in the picture.

I went for my birthday a couple of years ago. It was… good. But it was my second Michelin star Indian meal and I’d say the jump in class from classic fare for other cuisines to Michelin level is greater than it was with either of the Indian meals I’ve been for.

Fair. Indian food in general where I am is not great so I think it's worth giving one a go for me.

    Then got L'Enclume in December

Picked up some of this from Heron:

And it’s one of the worst liquids I’ve ever tasted. Couldn’t even hazard a guess at the flavour.

Made these frittatas last night but with smoked trout instead of salmon.

    https://www.theguardian.com/food/202...e-rukmini-iyer

The final product was fine but a little bland and I'm not sure what I could do to bring a bit more life to them.

Think next on the list is these: https://www.theguardian.com/food/art...pe-meera-sodha but swapping out the sweet potato falafel for actual falafels and some lamb koftas stuffed with feta.

I genuinely picked this up the other day, thinking it was full of electrolytes. Nope. Just blue drink.

What's the difference between chicken pieces and chicken balls? The latter I've had, but never heard of the former.

Also need a portion of chips added in.

Chicken pieces are presumably bits of chicken breast / thigh in batter, where as the chicken in the balls is processed shite.

I would have gone the other way.

Balls the bigger breast chunks, pieces more of a suped up shredded affair. Both look superb.

Balls are chunks of proper chicken in batter, pieces are just bits ripped off a breast or thigh and banged in coating and fried. Both banging, both surprisingly not processed.

I had the Quattro Stagioni from Waitrose tonight. It's good but the base is weak so you have to overcook it and the crusts are poor. For 6 quid I think you're better off buying a Dr Oetker and adding your own stuff.

It's worth doing a tour through someone like Devour to get a feel for it and go to some of the places famous for things.

    This thread is good:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/finedining/...astianpinxtos/

Generally the things you order from the board are much better than the things that are out for you to point at. The way to do it is to have 1/2 Pintxos at a place with a glass of Txakoli then move on to the next place and just crawl round til you're full.

For the tortilla at Bar Nestor you have to go in the morning and get your name down in the book, then come back for it at lunch time. You can't phone and if you just turn up at lunch time you won't get any.

If you go to La Vina for the cheesecake a glass of the Pedro Ximenez to go with it. So fucking good.

Pintxos (as distinct from tapas) are the best way to eat food, I think. I've had this argument with my brother so many times, who is a meat and two veg man and basically starts quivering with rage if he sees a small amount of food rather than a large amount (despite this, I'm fatter than him). But sometimes you just have to admit when someone's perfected something, and the Basques have.

Ta all. Smashed into the old town hard last night with a skinful of cider. Tapped out at about our tenth pintxo (which was cheesecake from La Vina and excellent it was too). Lunch today at Bar Antonio (arroz de gambas) was also A++.

Someone in my office had a Lasagne sandwich for lunch today. This is the second person I've seen do this in my lifetime and I'm actually more concerned now than last time.

This can't actually be a thing, can it?

Chip butty, cottage pie in a roll, PIE BARM, lasagna sandwich, all part of the rich heritage of carb filled bread items.

Edited to reflect the proper name for the barm thing before some Wigan person comes along and loses their shit.

India has vada pav, which is basically just a spicy potato cake in a soft bap. Underrated cul-de-sac of the full repetoire.

I actually admire any work-lunch solution that doesn't require the use of cutlery, and this is of course where the sandwich is king, so full marks from me.
