There was a Cake song used for GOTM for a while – Short Skirt/Long Jacket, I think.

Lewis being a fan of Wet Leg would be the funniest thing ever.

Pixies was the first gig I ever went to, 2005 I think. They were really good, had Kim Deal and everything. I have zero interest in any of their new stuff, same with dinosaur jr. Like, I'm sure it's probably alright but when Trompe Le Monde and Doolittle and You're Living All Over Me is there, I just can't be arsed to investigate.

They're basically the exact type of annoying shit your imagined igor_balis who does jokes about bacon on Reddit would like.

It's them, Biffy Clyro, Professor Green, or posting on here. Please advise.

Biffy Clyro, TTH, Pro Green in that order.

Pro Green will probably just do a 2 hour lecture on Mental Health anyway.

The main stage had the big screens blaring 'EVERYONE HAS MENTAL HEALTH' between acts, which felt like a direct challenge to my call-and-response routine at work about 'getting mental health' and all the young people jeering me.

I've listened to most of the newer Pixies stuff (bar most recent) and I found it unusually on brand. Some absolute corkers, some weird shit that doesn't quite land. I've found most of their albums new and old to follow that formula.

I loved one of Dionsaur Jr’s more recent efforts too - Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Decent album.

I gave Biffy Clyro half an hour and got a bit bored, so mooched over to Wet Leg and thought it wasn't too bad. Then it started raining so I have come home and put my washing on. I saw the back end beforehand of Arlo Parks and they were alright. Plus I saw somebody throw up all down somebody else. All-in-all, a decent festival.

Pretty much ruined Pixies bar when they shut up for the hits, and marred the first have of LCD until we found a better little crowd enclave. Got to stop shelling out for these big London gigs as they’re just massive wanker magnets.
I went to this too and I largely agree. I didn't notice it quite so much during the Pixies but for LCD Soundsystem, definitely.

I don't want to generalise but I do think certain types of bands attract it more, too. And LCD fit the profile. I went again today and Ben Gibbard headlined with the Death Cab/Postal Service double header and it was a much more pleasant crowd. Still a noticeable amount of people who just seem to want to talk over the entire thing, but far less people absolutely off their face. I'm not advocating abstinence either, I will drink steadily for most of the day at these things too. But there's a level.

Absolutely belting lineup up today too. I saw:

Wednesday - Yo La Tango - Teenage Fanclub - Sleater-Kinney - The Decemberists - Phoenix - Death Cab - Postal Service.

I would have seen a bit of Everything Everything too but I needed to fit some grub in at some point. But still as good a day of music as I can recall seeing in recent memory.

Outdoor ones tend to have much more sound bleed, wind plays a part too. And it depends so much on where you are in the crowd relative to the main PAs, the flanking ones and the relays. You can stand a couple of yards apart and have a completely different sound profile. But irrespective, if two people are rattling on a food from your ear behind you, it's pretty evident even if it's super loud.

Today I went to Durham's classic car thing. Not intentionally but I was passing through whilst trying to scope out the new office building we're moving into. Couldn't tell you what model of Shelby I was looking at but it looked mint. Same goes for this lovely Papaya coloured Ford moonshine runner thing. The Lotus Elite is like a wedge fucked a brick. There was also a pristine Corvette Roadster and a bloody nice Morgan.

Some fella also brought some 90's era Mercs which had no business being there.

Went to the local chilli festival today.

Was grand, tried a load of sauces and then ate a mixed souvlaki and some BBQ pork skewers.

Bought some very fruity sauces too.

A banana habanero, a spicy plum, "punchy pineapple" and a hot mango.

The banana habanero is more like an Indian pickle, it's so good.

I've been looking for a Tekken tournament to attend and it seems there are only two available this year. One is in a shitty bar in Bristol so I'm a maybe for that one, then the second is in Liverpool which I dismissed only to find it's held in literally THE MOST INSANE CHURCH I'VE EVER SEEN.

So I've signed up just to see a video game tournament happen in this space.

Went to a kids party of someone from work this afternoon at a ‘soft play’ place. Had a Hulk and Iron Man toy on the table and then wandered off with the kids to the ‘party table’ to eat. Returned to find Iron Man missing. Brushed it off as some scrubber has nicked him.

Went playing and saw some lad take my bottle of pop (Pepsi max cherry) off my table and wander off with it. Abandoned my children to go and get it back and his dad was like ‘where’s he got that? Off your table? lol’ so I was like yeah, don’t suppose it was him who stole Iron Man too, and he got all defensive for accusing his child of being a thief, despite him literally just stealing from me.

Some woman who I’d been introduced to as ‘she doesn’t know anyone either, if you wanna chat’ tried to interject and i basically wrote it off as lost, despite her best efforts to look for a shiny red plastic man lying around anywhere.

Anyway, on the way out, Iron Man was on the exit gate. Little lad definitely been shamed into not taking it home by his knobhead dad.

    Cool story bro, etc

If only to prove Giggles point, I could basically type this same post but exchange kids party for on holiday last year, Iron Man for a beach ball and the bottle of Pepsi for one of my daughters flip-flops.

I've noticed a trend amongst childless people - especially as they get older - to be very loud about their dislike of children and / or their happiness about not having them.

Now, some would say they're over compensating for something - especially those that choose to work with Children, like paediatricians and Teachers - but I am not that unkind.

There's an advantage, as in someone to look after you when you're old. Unless you raise a complete cunt. 'Overcompensating' or not, that's the only one I can honestly see.
