Currently sat at a kids birthday party () and they're playing the game where the kids have to sit down when the music stops. Standard stuff, except, the woman is remembering who is out by giving the losers star stickers and having them sit in a little group.

I've been to Pirate, Princess and Dinosaur themed birthday parties, but a Holocaust theme is a new one on me.

I went to a cocktail bar yesterday where magicians would come and sit with you for a bit. One of them “read my mind” and I felt like a proper loser when he got it right.

What did he read? "this is well better than being home...but at home I could be doing a raid on Dungeon Siege, so maybe that is better?"

He said to think of something we have that we like and write it down on a little card. He asked if it was an instrument or a pet so I said no (my wife picked our cat but blurted out her name before he had chance to properly guess hers, cos she’s useless. If anyone’s played that forced-fun game called Chameleon, never play it with my wife and her family unless you want a fury-induced aneurysm) and then he wrote down CAR on a piece of card and showed my wife. ‘Nah he won’t have written that he’s not arsed about hi-‘ as I reveal ‘my car’ scrawled on the card he’d given me.

Should have played havoc and gone with giant dildo or signed Ian Huntley photo, or something I don’t even own like a rugby ball.

Went to my dad's for the first time in over a year, he gave me £300, legend. Might go more often if he does that every time.

He's actually the most cogent he's been for fucking years. He's given up the booze, which is pretty impressive but feels pretty futile. Bottle of jack daniels a day for the best part of four decades, then goes teetotal as a 69 year old disabled shut in stroke victim. Surely now is the optimal time to be a massive alcoholic? Fair play, though.

He said he didn't want to subject me to the faff of trying to sell his old records when he dies, so sold the lot of them for the aforementioned £300 to some nerd he met online. Pretty sure he got massively ripped off, but I spose the profit margin will be dependent on having those Big Audio Dynamite records sitting round the house for years while they wait for them to sell on discogs. Probably a reasonable tradeoff.

Your dad's got the right idea. I've just went round my folks for a chat and to pick up any duplicate DVDs my dad has. I was expecting loads but it's mostly the back half of the Fast and Furious collection. Nowt I especially want so I'll probably add to my pile of stuff to trade in.

The downside being he's still got hundreds more and I dread the day we have to deal with all that at once.

Felt terribly old on Saturday night. Had been at the pub with my mates for the football and a couple of us walked into town for the Germany game. Was talking to someone at the bar who turned out to be mates with someone I went to school with’s daughter.

Watching with my dad. The whole downstairs of his house is without a water supply, toilet or kitchen facilities as they're having some work done, but even then he point blank refuses to come to mine instead.

I’m watching it in a pub. Watched the semi there and the atmosphere was alright, although I’d have preferred to have been outside cos my mate plonked us in front of a 23” SD TV and I couldn’t tell the difference between Stones and Guehi cos it was so pixelated. We said we’d watch the final there only to discover you need to prebook drinks in order to reserve a table. He hastily contacted them to book outdoor seating near the big screens but was told it’s full but managed to secure us a table indoors and 8 pints of Guinness for the generous price of £40. If we’re in front of that same TV, I might stream it on my phone.

Win or loose we’re on the booze though, night out in Warrington hopefully shouting along to Vindaloo in every bar we go.

I think the drink price is set, you just have to order however many you want in advance and there's presumably a fee for the table. They do the drink pre-ordering at Roots Hall (Southend stadium) too. You have to order and pay for your half time drink(s) before the game. It's shite so I just don't bother.

Having gone large for the last two MASSIVE games in tournaments under Southgate I'm having a quiet one, hopefully it bucks the trend of us losing them. Last minute plan change forced my hand, I could have the day off monday if I wanted but I work from home anyway so not much difference.

Just come back from a DJ Shadow gig in Gateshead. I am shattered but it was class. A proper bombardment of the senses and I forgot just how much he's done in the last ... 40-ish!? years. He legitimately made it sound like he's thinking of packing in/slowing down.

He wished England good luck on Sunday so there's that. I'm also at the point where I really, really notice how old the crowd is. You grow up thinking young people will be into the stuff you like. Naw. It's all bald people and their fat wives. One wifey fell over just getting into the fucking venue.

If that’s the case, they’ve seen a lot of people coming. I’d just rather secure a table and somewhere to watch the game rather than wander aimlessly from pub to pub trying to find one that will let us in.

I ennded up at Goodwood festival on Sunday, which was surprisngly enjoyable. Some of the cars on show, pre 2005 were good to see in the real. Playing Need 4 Speed and Gran Turismo all these years means it seems like i was already attached to the machine :d:

I never got the hype for the fat cat. The owner was pleasant enough when he came to do his banking, though.

Some of my faves were my local the eaton cottage, the leopard and the plasterers arms, but the city does have shit loads of good pubs.

I quite liked having a drink in the garden of the playhouse, but it did have a few too many wankers like me.

The Kimchi for Korean. The fried chicken is great and the portions are ridiculous.

    Grosvenor for fish and chips.

Number 33 is indeed very good for breakfast/brunch/lunch.

    Jive for Mexican.

Namaste is vegetarian Indian and is really good.

Blue Joanna does sharing plates with a Korean/Japanese bent.

Saporita is good for lunch. Does paninis, pizzas slices, focaccia, etc. The Italian people who run it appear to be the happiest people in the world whenever I go in, which always brightens my day.

Bodega on the market does banging sandwiches.

For proper sit down nice dinner there's places like Benoli, Benedict's, L'Hexagone, but I'd imagine that's probably not what you're looking for with kids. All the above are varying degrees of child friendly depending how old they are, Blue Joanna and Jive probably the least so.
