Day 1 of royal ascot and I don’t recognise 90% of the fields. I used to be flat > jumps but the latter really is better. Easier to follow horses too as they don’t get retired for shagging after 1 or 2 seasons.

I also feel like flat races can be decided early where if your pick has a bad start in a jump race it still has a chance.

A good horse showing a turn of speed from the back is always fun but good horses going flat out over 2m chasing or hurdling is always more exciting. That and the Arabs haven’t taken it over.

I do like how horses can be entered twice at royal ascot to do the double unlike Cheltenham though
