I think the only way they could manufacture Hamilton ahead would have been 'accidentally' putting a set of hards on Russell at the pit stop. These guys will not yield to their team mate ever, unless they're on a cuck contract like 'Checo' or in a title fight (remember those).

Hamilton's garage needed to gamble on the [obvious] safety car if a split wasn't going to be acceptable.

He needed to steer left to go around a corner but forgot. Easily done, could happen to anyone.

I think if that’s Hamilton or Verstappen as well who’s in Russell’s place they win. Russell had a fairly big gap on Hamilton when they came out the pits as well and lost that before they caught Leclerc.

Sky sports appear to have fiddled with the thumbnail of Russell's post-race interview to make him look like he's been crying.

EDIT: Oh, he has been crying.

With Russell I always remember the time when he threw it into the wall at Imola under the safety car when positioned for rare Williams points. Of course he was younger then but this was exactly the same lack of coolness under pressure and I'm certain there have been two or three other examples as well. It's not enough just to be quick.

Still looks like Merc’s only hope at winning a race. Hamilton hasn’t really come close in 2 years now.

Perez is an absolute terrorist of a driver at times. Didn’t get noted down never mind a penalty for either of these:

That first one. I seem to remember him also mostly being at fault for all the comings together with Ocon back in the Force India days.

Poor Tsunoda. Back to back F1 races without getting a lap in. Commentators were obsessed by the fact he retired with a puncture too. His car was a complete mess

Even worse that his bad luck has coincided with a rather positive debut stint by Lawson. It's a shame the latter will have to wait longer for full debut.

I'm thinking more long term (Ricciardo is just a stop-gap surely/hopefully). If I suddenly bring Lawson and he outperforms Tsunoda in 3 out of 3 races (2 DNFs of course but still), maybe I should just bin Tsunoda and gamble on a second young driver.

I don't see why you wouldn't run the pair next season. Tsunoda has done a pretty solid job overall and worthy of a continued F1 career I would say, and Lawson has shown he has at least some of what it takes. If there was some tearaway kid coming up then they would have gone with him over Lawson at this point.

Tsunoda is a Honda driver so I would expect him to stay at AT until they don't have their engines, and at that point he could be a good bet to turn up at Aston. Lawson has looked impressive (and for longer than a cup of coffee like de Vries), assuming Tsunoda isn't binned they should try and get him into Williams for next year and see if he continues to get better because Sargent has not done enough yet.

Just finished it myself and I'll go one further, he was great all weekend and seems as close to Leclerc as he's ever been. Crucially he qualified ahead and therefore avoided getting fucked over in the pitstop as was inevitable for whoever was running second and as you say he showed good awareness at the end to keep Norris a credible obstacle whilst never giving him a sniff of taking the lead. Tellingly he won a race with a slower strategy than the chasing Mercs, if they'd have been the other way around it may have turned out differently but Hamilton was someone else paying the price for a poor qualifying.

Sounds like AT are keeping both drivers on for next year. Not at all surprising really, the team shouldn’t even exist.

They’ve got to work together to wipe Verstappen out otherwise he’s driving off into the sunset a full minute clear.

Ever since they improved, your recommended strategy for them to win a race has been for everybody in front of them to be wiped out.

It remains the only viable way of beating Verstappen at a racetrack not based in Singapore. Unfortunately it hasn’t happened nor won’t happen and he’ll piss every race for the rest of the year.

I think Horner gave away the game in his interview, he said Williams aren't going to want to sign him for just a year suggesting he'll be their fourth driver for 2025.

Logan Sargent is so far away from being F1 standard. I know the tears will flow at Liberty if they can't have a yank on the grid but he shouldn't be there.

They really don't seem to give a fuck about whoever sits in that seat, Perez kept it despite being no better than the others because they'd run through all their juniors. Most of the time the team themselves shits on their own driver, it can't all be to appease the Verstappen family ego.

About halfway through the race and it's not exactly thrilling, nice to see the real Alonso finally showing up though.

Perez only becomes an issue if he either crashed the car to the point of causing cost issues, or they are in an actual fight for the constructors.

Or if he damages the brand. I'm hankering for a can of Rich Energy after watching his display earlier.
