Bottled the TTH cup final.
Also bottled my overall rank having been inside the top 1000 a few weeks ago, finished just inside the top 5k.
Top 5k is always a good finish. I went from 7.5k to 49k over thr last 9 weeks. Terrible end.
Went with Mount as captain for the last GW because I was third in my league and (correctly) guessed that everybody around me would pick Son. Didn't work out obviously, lost the cup final as well. 75k OR is much better than last year though when I was barely within the top million. Looking forward to next year.
I wonder if they're going to reassess the positions going forward since there are barely any useful strikers left. Would make squad-planning and formations more interesting to have wide-forwards like Salah, Son, Mahrez etc. as strikers in the game.
Proposals for the Super-FPL:
- 2 points for transfer hits to stimulate activity
- Increase prices significantly to minimise ability to have multiple big hitters
- Lifetime bans for anyone who contributes or uses FPL tipster resources
The striker issue is funny. Pukki was the 3rd highest scoring forward but only 31st overall. The lesson I'm taking from this season is defence always wins in the age of Liverpool and City. Examples:
- Alisson had ownership of less than 10%, but only 4 defenders scored more than him. Cost - a measly £6.1m
- TAA and Cancelo were outscored by only 2 and 3 players respectively, yet were and still are valued at the same price as mid-range midfielders (started at £7.5m and £6m)
I'm not sure there's that much wrong with forwards, it's just that a load of them had off seasons. Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool either didn't have one or they were shit, Bamford, DCL, Wilson and were mostly injured/playing badly. It wouldn't hurt to reclassify a couple of the mids (Jota maybe?), but I think there will be more value there next season.
Alisson was pretty difficult to own because most teams had Trent, Salah and one of Robertson/Mane/VVD/Jota for the whole season.
I agree they should bump a load of prices up. Make the big sides' attacking fullbacks 8+ across the board, give people a decision to make.
What price do we reckon Haaland will be?
I'm a twit
There needs to be a proper decision to be had around the attacking wing backs and the centre backs. Chilwell and James will always get ore points than Thiago Silva but if he's 2m cheaper then it's a choice to be had.
Same with Mane and Salah being the same price, no choice to be had really how ever if Mane was 10.5m to Salahs 13m it would make an interesting decision.
Strikers across the game should be 1-3m cheaper. Centre backs considerable cheaper than attacking wing backs for the top teams etc.
At the moment there are far too few players to actually pick from if you want to do well, hardly any variance between teams.
New season is open.
Convinced myself I was gonna go heavy on big hitters in defence but I’m struggling to make my midfield worth having. I don’t mind having one bench player who won’t ever feature but having two like that has alarm bells ringing.
I just really want Haaland, Nunez and Salah too! Might have to swap Darwin for Diaz.
I'm a twit
Rashford as a £6.5m midfielder could be interesting.
Harvey in at 5.0 is the real thinking man's gem this year.
Prices have made it pretty boring this season. Four or five wingbacks from the top four, Salah, Haaland and a couple more Liverpool/City attackers, then fill in the blanks with your spare change.
Where are the predicton threads?
What’s the league code etc? My account got locked so had to create a new one.
Sa; James, Trippier, Castagne, Cancelo; Salah, Olise/Bailey, Mount, Kulusevski; Kane, Jesus
That’s the starting line up for the first few weeks. Never seen a player owned as much as Jesus. He was 80% owned at one point
How can you find the league code out?
Was a bit shocked to learn that Jesus is in 70% of teams.
I've just done my annual "pick a team and forget about it by week two" so if it's just a case of adding a code to join another league then I'll get on board.
Second post in the thread says code is c40vvv. Didn't they used to have dashes in them?
No that might be right, the other league I joined today was just six random characters too.
EDIT: invalid code, must be old.
It’s so that only @Andy can see the code.
I'm a twit
Code to join this league: 8iql75
I'm in, got £1m spare to mess around with my team.
Sanchez, Pope
TAA, Cancelo, James, Trippier, Walker*
Diaz, Rashford, Zaha, Bailey, Da Silva
Nunez, Jesus, Kane*
Walker in as City seem short of fullbacks and have a pretty easy start, not set in stone, may go more budget [N. Wiliams] or a bit more squad depth [Perisic]
Kane out for Haaland after week 1.
Nunez/Diaz over Salah/bench warmer a gamble.
Ramsdale, Ward
TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Perisic, Neco Williams
Salah, Saka, Bailey, Neto, Andreas Pereira
Kane, Jesus, Archer
Bailey and Neto start the first couple of weeks but rotate very nicely in combination with Neco Williams and Pereira for the first 8 weeks at least. Archer will be third sub.
With Kasper gone, you can have Leicester's only two senior goalkeepers for 8 million quid. It's just whether they're bluffing about not being in the market for a new no. 1.
In other news, I'm pretty into this Bench Boost GW1 strat that people on twitter are talking about.
Cucurella at 5m seems a steal now
Bench Boost in GW1 worked okay for me last year but not sure the fixtures and prices allow for the same this year. Inshallah it is Ward and not Iversen that gets the nod. Will sell him at 4.4 for a steady 0.2 banked :zionist:
There is an extra wild card this season so you use one next week and then you only need to make it to the world cup before you get another one. Potential for the optimal team to be a lot more obvious after everyone's played once.
Obviously BB is theoretically better in a big double but you end up carrying loads of value on your bench in the weeks before/after and it's often underwhelming.
Mostly just something a bit different tho innit.
You basically have to make your team full of guaranteed starters in GW 1 then though, right? As in, you can't really have the big hitters like Salah because you'll only have 4.5's on your bench..?
Ward and Neco and then 2 of those cheap midfield dons like Neto/Bailey/Hwang make the bench look alright, it's the fact most of the good teams have away fixtures that put me off.
I'm trying to work out if having all three of Kane, Salah and Haaland is a good idea. Tempting to sacrifice the latter to get two better midfielders in, as there's a lot of gash in the side with all of the three, but I'm sure at least two of the trio will dominate from the off.
I’ve changed my team about 10 times as per usual. Can’t make my mind up whether to be balanced or go attack heavy.
Atm it is:
Sa, Ward
Trippier, TAA, James, Cucurella, Neco Williams
ASM, Mount, Bowen, Bailey, Andreas
Kane, Haaland, Jesus
Midfield seems a bit guff. ASM has an easy start so should be fine and Bowen if he replicates last year. The others, who knows.
I’ve gone:
Alisson G’nigga
Walker Robertson Perisic James Trippier
Rashford Martinelli Bailey Salah Andreas
Haaland Jesus Wilson
Pretty pleased with that overall I think. It’s dependent on getting it right in terms of the cheaper midfielders. It also gives me a good spread across the top teams.
I went big on Bailey last season too so hope he doesn’t let me down again.
My shite team:
Pope - Henderson
Robertson - James - Zinchenko - Mitchell - Hickey
Salah - Bernardo - Yates - Rice - Reed
Mateta - Haaland - Kane
Some big risks / gaffes on starting XIs there. Hickey I've gone for on the basis he was scoring free kicks for Bologna and generally has a modern PL full back's outlook, not sure about the clean sheets mind. Yates is a punt as if you think I'm researching the likely Nottingham Forest XI you have another think coming. Reed is just bench meat. Mitchell I'm surprised is 4.5, have they bought Roberto Carlos in the off season?
My secret weapon "Martial" is now injured
Prick.
Edit: Boring Gabriel Jesus which every fucker and his dog has now in.
I'm of the opinion I can made do without either but both Kane and Haaland is surely not a go-er. Assume they have optimal seasons, you're looking at about 220 from them. But you've had to resort to playing Mateta who will struggle to get 100 in order to fit the second one in. That's a combined 320 for 17.0 when it seems pretty straightforward to get that from any number of combinations of 2 mid-range picks (e.g. Wilson and Saka) without the tactical inflexibility and risk that comes with putting your eggs in 1 man's basket.
I'm assuming that Mateta will get transferred out for whoever turns out to be the value forward (he's my best guess at it). But you likely have a point. If one of the gumbo centre forward pair starts poorly it'll just have to be a wildcard I suppose.
Just got major cold feet on the forwards and have gone back to Mo, and a forward line of Jesus, Toney and Wilson.
Nobody else chancing 5.5 FWD Deniz Undav from Brighton?
I'm a twit
Whilst I can see Maupay maybe leaving I'd be amazed if Brighton didn't go with him and Trossard to ar least start the season. Not seen much of their pre season though.
Just realised my team is basically the scout's week 1 team.
The amount of people having Jesus is putting me off him even though he’s great value. At least you’d feel like you’re missing out with no Salah but even then only 50-60% of folk have had him the past 2/3 years.
Arsenal do have an easy start though. Fack knows
Could be a big week 1 differential seeing as Arsenal could easily get shut out/molested by Palace. He does feel a bit too good value to turn down though and, as you say, they have an easy start [although quite a few do].
All change again. I don't look forward to the misery of doing this all again during the world cup when there are unlimited free transfers.
Ward/Sanchez
Robertson/Cancelo/Walker/Trippier/James
Salah/Saka/Diaz/Rashfod/DaSilva
Jesus/Wilson/Johnson
I’ve bench boosted and will likely wildcard after the first week but here we are:
Iversen (Ward)
TAA - Perisic - Cancelo - James (N Williams)
Luis Diaz - Salah - Rashford (Dasilva - A Pereira)
Kane - Jesus - Johnson
I don’t fancy Forest to do very well at all but Johnson playing every week and being on pens mean I’ve got him in, for now.
The Leicester keeper situation will need to be closely monitored but FOMO has occurred. And the keepers are that way around in case of red cards.
Also Rashford is garbage but with no Martial, figured he’s worth a punt and at least any misery caused by United doing well can be counterbalanced by reaping FPL rewards.
I'm a twit
Made a lot of changes after the Martial move.
Not prepared to show my team as I feel it's game breaking.
