Quite jealous of recent goings on in here. I've been off the beer for a while but just cracked open a Murk-Life Balance Hazy Pale from Magic Rock which is pretty average. 3.6, not great not terrible.

The calendar is comfortably the nerdiest beer-thing I've partaken in. Fun though. I never did mixtapes in my youth so I never relate to people talking about putting one together but for the amount of time I spent deciding on the order for my brother-in-law's calendar (don't bunch all the best ones together, don't put the same styles together, etc.) I feel like I at least get it a bit now.
I was gonna put this:
As the last beer in his but bottled it in case he has an incorrect opinion and thinks it's weird so I've gone for that as the penultimate beer and gone for a very good but safer bet for the 24th.
This People Like Buns is not quite as good as the original version of it I had but it's still rather tasty.
Really hate blonde beers.
Lough Gill pilsner today. I’m going to put it in a chicken casserole later on.
I nuked a bottle of shall we say 'traditional' Riesling into a similar thing yesterday for eating later.
Speaking of Belgians me and my brother in law were clearly of a mind for the 4th....
I got him: https://www.delirium.be/en/beers/delirium-argentum
He got me: https://chouffe.com/en-gb/beers/nice-chouffe/#
Had a quick google to make sure the fierce beer you were talking about is the same one I walk past on my wander to the gym. It is, turns out they’re bigger than I credited.
Remember going to that bar not long after it opened and thinking it was pretty crap, even for beer. Situated right beside a brew dog bar too.
Having a bottle of Bayreuther Hell. Pretty tasty lager.
Punk IPA today
Good to get it out early, I guess, on the proviso there are no repeats.
Presumably regular Lost Lager and Hazy Jane still await. From the other basics, I actually really like Elvis Juice and Clockwork Orange so they will considered good days.
The other 17 better be some “oooooh fancy that” moments. Like I’ve ever never had that Layer Cake that I see in supermarkets, and I reckon that’s definitely in there. Hoping for plenty I didn’t even know existed though.
And I guess there’s worse beers to sup during MOTD than Punk IPA (such as Lost Lager).
I'm a twit
The layer cake is decent, although usually in bigger cans. Do you get those in the calendar?
So for my last order TM had some.ofnrhe Amundsen Dessert in a Cans vastly reduced. I'm glad I haven't spent the regular price on some of these. Amundsen do some mega beers but the balance on some of these is way out. That said the "White Chocolate S'mores" one was waaaay better than I expected.
Got jipped with a 330ml today - Blacks Tropical IPA. They always make me regret buying the calendar in the first place.
Yeah it's not inspiring stuff, is it.
Decided to open a West Cork ESB instead that I was saving to try at Christmas. Another style that’s sorely sparse in the market here and it’s one of my favourites. This one is gorgeous.
Ayinger Celebrator dopplebock. Now we’re talking.
Yeah that sounds like a winner.
Today I gave: https://brewyork.co.uk/product/fairytale-of-brew-york/
I got: https://www.fiercebeer.com/item/357/Beepa.html
I think I've probably got the better end of the deal today because I've already had that Brew York one and it's not one of their better efforts.
Some Brlo cucumber shit. Nope.
And a 330ml can to add insult to injury.
I had a yuzu and cucumber beer by Northern Monk and it was really drinkable but the yuzu was possibly doing the heavy lifting there.
For today I gave: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4909/10683/
And I got: https://www.barneysbeer.co.uk/produc...k-stout-vegan/
I'll be curious to see how close they get to tasting like a milk stout.
Also the Fierce Beepa was very decent.
The answer is it's it that close to a milk stout but it's a solid effort and I could happily sink a few of these.
I walked past a Fierce bar in Manchester today. Is Fierce local or is it just a coincidence? I didn’t go in cos I was with non-REAL ALE drinkers.
I'm a twit
Fierce are Aberdeen I'm sure so it's just that have a Manc bar. I didn't know they had bars that far afield.
Put one in Glasgow you cowards.
A nordy one today - Heaney Echo Chamber, a black IPA. Nice too.
I gave: https://www.eebriatrade.com/products...090-heliopause
I got: https://www.weebeershop.co.uk/produc...-black-forest/
I've had a version of this Vocation one but not this specific one so should be good.
This black forest stout is really rather good. Manages to be chocolatey and fruity but not sickly sweet. The fruit in it is actually a little sharp which helps with that a lot.
I thought layer cake was a bit sickly for what it is worth but I am not a fan of the darker ales, despite loving the guinness way back when.
Speak of the devil, this is what I'd put in my brother-in-law's calendar for today. I'd already had it when I re-ordered one for his so I'm fairly confident it's a good'un.
I got a Raspberry Ripple stout by Loch Lomond. Didn't realise they'd branched out into doing things that aren't a largely similar parade of pales.
Carelessly bought a couple of Jubel Beer Cut With Peaches, describes itself as a session lager, would not recommend. Tastes like lager that someone has spiked with Rubicon.
Just seen on Instagram that Brewdog do a Pecan Salted Caramel Stout called Velvet Cake. If that isn’t in this box I’m burning Scotland down.
I'm a twit
Yeah it's new so I'd be surprised if there's not one in there. I don't think it's mad expensive on its own.
St. Bernardus Witbier today. Meh.
Yeah it's not my favourite St. bernadus that one. I like a wheat beer but that one wasn't anything special.
Anyone tried Buxton Brithop? Really interests me but I don’t think anyone imports their stuff to here. Would they be a big or small brewery?
I don't really know the relative scale of operations, but their website says they have 11 staff, which, to me seems small. 11000 litres a week though so who knows, is that a lot?
Their stuff is often pretty good although not had that one.
Ballykilcavan Clancys #7 today, a Munich dunkel. Wondrously good.
Would love to try it, was only having a notion the other day to brew a west coast ipa style with all German hops and this would be great to try too. I’d love to know what’s in it even.
11,000 litres would be too 5 (outside Guinness, etc) here but no idea of how it fares there.
I get more into dunkels as time goes on. Even when I was first into stouts I wasn't always big into them. Rauchbiers - still a work in progress.
Today at the opposite ends of the spectrum in both senses as I picked a beer to bring down my average spend a bit and I'm guessing he picked one that was when his average was good and he could spend a little more. Also basicall
I gave: https://www.virginwines.co.uk/beer/Z...a-Keller-Lager
I got: https://www.weebeershop.co.uk/produc...-maple-nutter/
I don’t think I’ll ever come around to smoked anything when it comes to drinks.
Think I still have some sort of smoked imperial by Beak in the UK fridge from last christmas which I haven't been able to bring myself to drink on my various visits since.
I suppose it can work when it's up against a sweetness, but as with Whisky, as soon as smoke [or peat] enter the fold then it's a bit of a struggle.
With beer I need a bit of sweetness as well, yeah.
Same with whisky I guess.
I think this Overtone beer would be absolutely delicious if you weren't as nut-averse as me. It seems moderately peanut-forward which probably means it actually isn't.
Saison Dupont. Another meh.
Today I gave: https://www.thewhitehag.com/product/...haccino-stout/
I got: https://toolbeer.dk/products/11th-anniversary
To Ol are a brewery I trust with this sort of strength IPA so we'll see if it's too much.
9% is the strongest I've ever had. 11% is madness.
I opened a Baltic Porter there about 10 minutes ago that was 10% and 3/4 of it went down the sink.
I think I've only ever had one beer I tipped for being that bad.
Get one of these in you, you pussy.
It just had that alcohol burn taste in it. Reminded me why I don’t touch spirits. I think the last one I tipped before that was a cherry cask aged Tripel - I’d bloody bought 5 of them too and have the other 4 left.
