You are welcome.
Someone should pay me for this.
You'll need to amp up the smugness. You could try starting all responses with "*sigh*" or "How many times...".
Is this omicron thing real or not? I’ve lost track of which side of the flip flop it’s landed.
Real, probably fine, might be more infectious but might also be more mild. The reporting is a mess but that seems to be the takeaway for now.
So I guess in a way... you're working from home?
From my home country. Lazy workshy fuck, me.
Only a mild inconvenience though. Who cares if it's utterly pointless.
COVID’s gone too far if it cancels Jimmy’s Xmas Special.
So they want to ramp up the booster Rollout for a variant that seems to be vaccine resistant.
The melts that are being interviewed in shopping centres at the minute are the pinnacle of human evolution.
Is there any evidence it is vaccine resistant in anyway? And if said resistance also leads to it not being harmful then aren't we shitting the bed for no reason? Also, I was wondering to myself, they always hark back to the original strain which informed the vaccines, is there a point at which recent infection with say the delta variant (presumably more akin to this new variant than the original) becomes an effective way of creating immunity? If that is the case, doesn't logic suggest we actually try to infect the vaccinated with the new strains as they come along so the mild illness builds better immunity?
I just don’t give a toss anymore. I’ll wear a mask indoors if I have to but I’m genuinely amazed people are still screaming on Twitter about this shit. I reckon deep down they love new variants and the associated fear mongering.
Spikey's sure altered course from the 'I don't give a fuck' camp to multi-quoting and generally wanking off to it all.
Where's your fucking Mark Noble now, you silly cunt?
He probably realised the scale of the mongs he was associating with and seen the error of his ways

Some good bits in that, particularly the role of genetics which I hadn't seen confirmed before.
Does that sort of story not make you consider getting vaccinated?
Is that the barometer? If you don't die, go again?

This new omicron contact rule is going to be apocalyptic if they follow through on it. I guess you lot are ok as the machinery of the state is so inept that it would be easy to avoid it, but our Stasi-like public health/border agency bods are going to be all over it.
My sense is this could be the end of widespread support for restrictions if it isn't modified in some way. I also sense, given the track record of those proposing it, that very little actual thought process has been put into working through the consequences of the proposed policy.
Naturally. I've said before, if I hadn't had COVID before I would have been persuaded to have the vaccine long ago as I'm not against them.
As it is, it seems like even more of a low risk event than it actually is. I drive without a seatbelt outside of motorways too, proper hard bastard.

We've not even cleared lunchtime yet and the mental quotes are pretty strong today:
No World? Really? We'll see.Stephane Bancel told the Financial Times he thought there would be a "material drop" in vaccine efficacy.
The Covid variant was first detected in South Africa, and the symptoms have been mild so far.
But travel restrictions have been imposed as a precaution by places including the UK, the EU and the US.
Mr Bancel predicted that existing vaccines would be less effective in staving off Omicron, and that it would take months for drugs companies to update vaccines.
"There is no world, I think, where [the effectiveness] is the same level," he said.
Adult Woman in forgetting how Christmas, or indeed life, works.UK health security chief Dr Jenny Harries tells public not to socialise at Christmas with people you "don't particularly need to"
Christmas, I'm afraid, is happening this year, whether you like it or not.Reintroduce WFH to save Christmas - Lib Dems
Ahead of the PM's Downing Street Covid briefing later, the Liberal Democrats are calling on the government to reintroduce working from home guidance to keep Omicron cases down before Christmas.
Yeah, alright for you. If I get 'contact traced' to a suspected omicron case after the 15th December then that's Christmas fucked, I don't even get the chance to test, and it's a 10 grand fine or prison. If one of my kids gets traced through a class contact [at the moment the entire class is considered a 'contact' if there is a normal covid case] then that's them done too - this is the real risk as you can 'control' most other settings to ensure you don't get traced. It's batshit, but I don't think the reality will hit until it gets into a school and the school immediately has to close due to the contact rule [which I'm almost certain would happen]. At that point it might be too late, so the only alternative seems to be to haul kids out of school early to avoid being pinged in the [largely pointless] last full week of term if you don't want to have to face the prospect of a needlessly ruined Christmas.
Have they had Covid on Sark? You should get yourself over there before it's too late. I sold some conrod bearings to their fire brigade the other day so in the event anyone tries to Wicker Man your family, there should be more than adequate protection.
Fair point, hadn't considered the impact of kids. If that goes ahead, I feel this might be the point where a significant portion of the public just go "fuck this shit".
The news here seem to be going all in about these two doctors that are TRIPLE VACCINATED and have caught the new one. Did I miss the part where you could anyways catch any variant whether you were vaccinated or not? They were never able to stop someone carrying it.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/s...virus-covid-19
They ran out of rows on their excel spreadsheet for track and trace but they want to test for COVID through a voice note
I have dutifully gone back to masks in shops (unlike some TTHers past and present, I always follow the instructions of the British state), but I'm sad to say many of my compatriots appear not to be joining me.
If the national government says something is compulsory, I'll do it unless there's a very good reason not to.
And would something being pointless never be a good enough reason not to?
What's the latest then folks? WFH encouraged for the next decade?
People will behave as per their own agenda. Nothing new here.
Yeah but the immune system needs help. Why do you think we create medicine and vaccines ffs.
The quote is a little different tbf.
“We’ve seen is, in fact, that not everybody has gone back to work. I’d like to think of it more in a general way, which is if we all decrease our social contacts a little bit, actually that helps to keep the variant at bay. So I think being careful, not socialising when we don’t particularly need to and particularly going and getting those booster jabs.”
And that one is just as nuts. Socialising a little less will not stop this variant spreading.
And on the booster jabs.
We're worried this variant will beat the current vaccine.
So go and get a booster jab of the current vaccine.
Do they realise what they're saying?
The idea of 'not socialising when we don't particularly need to' is just so public health doctor it's painful.
