Well when we've got a global pandemic that specifically targets corpulent oafs why is GB's main news stream putting an article out trying to scare people in to not exercising? Just very bizarre.

Having just read the article, I can only conclude that you didn't.
Do your own research.
I was more surprised it affects 1 in 300. I always had it down as rarer than that. Also, Magic radging over this is daft.Regular and strenuous exercise increases the risk of motor neurone disease in people who are genetically vulnerable, say scientists.
I know the article says 'those pre-disposed to the gene' however the headline makes it look the complete opposite. As we all know, the GBP don't read articles, just headlines.
Isn't the point of the headline to get people to read the article?
The GBP being MJ.
Apparently keeping the restrictions in place will save thousands from being hospitalised so I'm now firmly in support of it. Also, a police geezer said he worries violence will rise if we ease restrictions so, again, it sounds like easy wins all over the gaff by keeping it as is. Not really sure why people are against it.
If it doesn't happen next week it won't happen until August. They have fucked it.
Yev was right. This is our life now.
Is it bollocks. Nobody is listening. Just crack on.
The real danger with this is the May relaxation being rolled back. As I keep saying, if COVID is problem enough to stop June 21st happening then its problem enough for us not to be doing what were already allowed to.
And if it is a genuine, actual problem, the vaccines dont work, or dont work for long enough.
I think we should go back into full lockdown in return for lifting all of the travel measures lest any foreigners be inconvenienced over the summer.
Covid doesnt respect borders Lewie.
Also, please bear in mind not everything is open and not everything is allowed as things stand. At least not for those of us who haven't thrown in the towel on life and accepted a miserable existence.
Where are we with the longevity of the vaccines? We must be coming close to having to start planning for round 2 for the soft shites.
The vaccines work, for now, so that’s not an immediate worry. It’s just that we’ve got a significant percentage of the adult population who haven’t had two shots yet.
Oi, nutty professor, I didn't ask for a fucking Newsround explanation for why these soft shites are losing their mind. I just want to know what the facts are about the longevity of the vaccine (and the natural immunity also, actually). It seems a fundamental variable to any kind of predictive analysis of this shitshow and a far more pressing concern than getting healthy young soft shites jabbed for the bants.
Based on the efficacy percentages weve jabbed enough people to not to have to delay anything, yet here we are.
If its an actual problem then the vaccines cant be working in the way they should be, or dont last particularly long.
Im sceptical that its an actual problem, and if it isnt, this is what happens when you let SCIENCE run the show.
Yev, we've saved RL but we still need to protect Thames Valley police.
I cant be arsed to check but we’ve only fully vaccinated about half the adult population. That’s still a lot of vulnerable people when you factor in the increased transmissibility of this bastard variant.
The truth is we don’t know how long a vaccine will protect for. I think we have to accept that regular booster programs are going to be in our immediate future.
Appreciate two doses is at a lower level than one, but one dose offers, what, 70%+ protection? We'd done nearly forty million of those by the end of May.
I'm only going purely based on numbers here, but something doesn't stack up.
One dose is apparently significantly less effective against the new variant (although I'm not sure how that loss of efficacy bears out - is it simple getting it or getting it badly?) whereas two doses is almost as good (c.8% less effective).
Ludicrously massive ingographic:
Toggle Spoiler
It's mostly the unvaccinated who are still at the 'biggest risk' though, whatever that means.
We've (somewhat sensibly) modified our border policy (which was going to be completely open for UK travel from July 1st) to only completely free if you've had two jabs and all the "I'll get it later" closet anti-vax twats are losing their minds.

On that and one for the boffins. Shouldn't viruses weaken over time as they evolve, not get stronger? Another +1 for the 'it came from a lab' column?
Isn't that a bit of a myth? I mean, in that world, how the hell is Ebola still kicking around in full bleed-to-death mode?
Don't they just evolve to become more transmissible, which often comes with the corollary that they cause less serious illness (as the more symptomatic you are, the less good you are at unknowingly spreading it)?
That said this:
Although completely without context could be somewhat alarming. Presumably those 12 were very old or died in car crashes or somesuch. As of 7 June, there have been 42 deaths in England of people confirmed as having the Delta variant and who died within 28 days of testing positive.
Of these people, 23 were unvaccinated, seven had had their first dose more than 21 days before and 12 had their second dose more than 14 days before.
I suppose the context for that is 42 deaths out of 100,000+ infections [probably way more given the 28 day rule].
Ebola is ridiculously rare for a virus that is highly transmissible and that purely boils down to how deadly it is. If it "only" killed 5% I could easily see it running rampant around Africa. Probably elsewhere too.
That said, to weaken it would need to spread first. Keeping it under control is possibly partly to blame for keeping it deadly. Not that the alternative is particularly attractive...
I do wonder how much of this expected "weakening" of viruses is just herd immunity and people catching things less badly the second time around.

3-4 more weeks gets a shitload more people into 2nd vax territory. It's shit we can't go to the clubs but the sauna is open so let's crack on.
From what I've read, 2 weeks might actually be more optimal than 4 in terms of having a sooner but lower peak.
My covid beard is so sick. If I were single I'd be...
Yeah not far off.
I did some reading around both of these questions a few months ago.
The answer to the first seems to be "it's complicated, but probably not really true that viruses tend towards reduced virulence over time".
It definitely didn't come from a lab though. It can be reliably determined whether a virus is manmade or altered by looking it's genome and covid is undoubtedly a natural variant (obviously I haven't and don't know how to do this but the article was in Nature so it should be pretty reliable).

So you've no idea. Thanks.
Do you have alerts on for whenever he posts in this thread?
Kill all bats.
We have Hendra virus in Brisbane. Kills horses and people.
Also spread by bats (well, flying foxes) no?
Apparently the delta variant symptoms could look exactly like a mild cold or hayfever, which is great.
You couldn't make it up.
How convenient.
When will the fascism end.
