Giving a vaccine to a healthy 25 year old teacher ahead of a fat and unhealthy 50 year old is just as bonkers giving it to NHS staff who work from home before your Nan got it.
Giving a vaccine to a healthy 25 year old teacher ahead of a fat and unhealthy 50 year old is just as bonkers giving it to NHS staff who work from home before your Nan got it.
But one happened and one didn’t. Why were home workers prioritised over actual frontline key workers?
I'm a twit
They almost certainly didn't. Presumably it was just too much effort to sit sorting the thousands of NHS staff into priority and non-priority lists, so they just treated them all as front-line for simplicity.
Trying to work out a detailed priority list based on occupation, workplace and all kinds of other factors would have been far more trouble in times of time and resources than the benefits it produced. They got it spot on - NHS (if that includes Brenda from accounts then so be it), oldies, sickies, then the rest by age.
Don’t you think the amount of people with Covid since December, when the vaccine was rolled out, would have been drastically reduced had schools not been susceptible to spreading it?
I'm a twit
May well have been, but that's to do with 30 kids rather than 1 teacher.
It's not poorly teachers spreading it in Schools, it's snotty coughy kids passing it around and taking it home. Vaccinating teachers wouldn't have done much at all. Vaccinating the kids might have, but there's a few obvious problems there.
On that note, where are we going to stop on the age list?
For my money we could almost stop now and this is done, so giving it to a 15 year old, let alone 5 year old seems unnecessary.
I would just get down to 18 and see where we are. That must be close to Herd Immunity.
Vaccinating the kids might be an idea if you really, really want to drive this down but I don't see us bothering.
Well the US are vaccinating over-12s aren’t they? Wouldn’t be surprised to see us go the same way.
Poland's followed suit. I just wonder if the fat-hearted children of Israel is enough to scare us out of it. It's not killing them, so there's that.
I guess the logic is to build immunity for future iterations. We vaccinate kids all the time so it's logical to do the same here.
We should definitely vaccinate as far down the ages as possible given safety/efficacy. Particularly 14 and up as they have been known to breach social distancing guidelines on occasion.
Anyone not washing their hands before they eat was raised in a barn.
Handwashing (or sanitising) before doing anything was always the mark of a total wrong'un and remains so, pandemic or not.
That said, seeing as 97% of men don't wash their hands after going to the toilet, leaning into people to get them to try to do it is probably worthwhile.
South Australia is freaking out so all of it is funny.
There's plenty of teachers under 30. Teachers are also pretty much the only people mixing with large number of others on a regular basis whilst being pressured not to wear masks.
I do understand the reasoning behind teachers not being prioritised (and on balance probably agree with it) but I also sympathise with them feeling a bit vulnerable.

They shouldn't have run their immune systems down working so hard.
They amount of absolute grebs in professional jobs who had shits and then walked out without washing their hands at the office toilet was unreal.
I can't wrap my head around that. Do they think toilet paper is an effective barrier?
Portugal onto the Orange List.
The whole thing is such a shambles. It's basically impossible to plan a holiday unless you're able to fly out the following day. Even then you might end up paying through the nose to change your flight home if they change their mind again.
Just shut the borders if you're going to be this twitchy about it, for fuck sake.
We seem to have been in this half-way 'economy vs. health' house since this whole mess began and it really doesn't seem to serve either.
And you know there'll be people at the airport moaning about how this has happened. Nothing in the last 15 months has prepared them for it. Nothing at all.
Just don’t go abroad. I can’t understand why people are booking foreign holidays when things are this volatile. Just go to Weston-Super-Mare ffs.
I've little sympathy with those who moan about getting stranded, but it is personally gutting that it's looking unlikely I'll get away this year without it being monumental hassle, which I won't be prepared to endure.
I sort of do have sympathy for them. As much as I'm not surprised it's happened and I wouldn't go with things as they are anyway; the Government have created a "green list" of places we're supposedly allowed to go on holiday and a month in they're already pulling the rug. It's a shit show .
And with our case numbers, what good does green do if the other country's playing by different rules?
Hospitalisations up (by 2 from last week but still), that is ominous shit for the soft shite brigade to feel empowered.
14 day case rate has somewhat gone through the roof in the South East in the last week (relatively speaking) from 27.4 per 100,000 last Tuesday to 41 per 100,000 this one just gone (by my calculations). A 50% rise in cases!
I am still lolling at the indignance of the 'close the borders' mob, as if stranding thousands of British Indians abroad for months would have been a good option for HMG.
There should have been x amount of weeks to return last year, and they should have been closed since.
It has to be one or the other. You either open up and accept that enclosing several thousand (often young and Unvaccinated) football fans on planes with circulated air is going to see SUPERSPREAD events, or you shut up shop .
The current state of play works for nobody.
Even if the borders are 'closed', you can still deal with exceptions on a case by case basis.
Ultimately, if variants are a risk then they should be closed, not this bollocks we have now. I know of at least 3 people who either have or will be visiting family (that aren't ill) in Amber countries over June alone and I suspect travel is utterly rife among non-UK nationals.
Just looking at hospital numbers and case rates, it sure does seem Bolton, Blackburn and Bedford are propping up this surge.
Was it really as simple as him wanting it to go away to keep the economy going in the election year? Because the ideal response - border closures, and then ruling by decree and pissing federal money around once it was already in - should have played straight into his instincts and/or what all the hystericals thought he was. If so he just sort of ended up falling between two stools.
He left a lot to the state governors rather than slap a national response on it.

Nonce Nation. If this curry variant fucks things up...
Two week delay incoming...( Remember it was just 3 weeks to flatten the curve 18 months ago) so I'm not expecting it to be "just" two weeks..
If deaths down to single digits less than 1000 in hospitals across the country with Covid, vaccines having an obvious effect, if not severing the connection between Covid and deaths is not enough for these fairies to lift lockdown then nothing will ever be enough!!!
This will never fucking end..

Interesting how people seem happy to sack off restrictions on the amount of people they can have over to their house but don’t support returning to the office. I wonder why.
They also don't want restrictions relaxed for events though, which is weird.
We are deep into "stay at home under your beds if you want, but Covid is done and we're opening up without you" territory. The government had better not bow to this shit.
Fuck returning to the office full time. What's the point?
I can understand some caution for the first few weeks but they should just rip the plaster off on the 21st. If people still want to wear masks then go for it.
