Boris is right, thus far, although the vaccines will already have taken a decent chunk (maybe 20,000) out of the death toll too. By definition their relative impact will be greater as time goes on.

It's a pincer attack. Why make out that it isn't?
The goalposts have moved from "the game has changed" and "this is our way out" to "nah, it's just the lockdown and who knows if we'll ever be back to normal" over the last 3 months and I find in inexplicable.
Echoing what that drippy WHO official said. Madness.
It's the same comms approach they've been using for months, i.e. play down any good news to encourage compliance / discourage complacency. It's pretty dishonest but it probably gets results.
The pubs are open Yev. Go and have a pint ffs.
J&J officially postponed now. The dirty clot causing bastards.
It was one of my student's birthday yesterday and they invited me to join them at the bar. No masks to be seen anywhere. /novid
In before Pepe gets fired for shagging students.
What kind of sad act invites their teacher out for their birthday?
And more to the point, what kind of teacher goes?
At the level I assume he teaches at isn't that a bit like going for a drink with a colleague?
The domesticated maggots projecting their bitterness at not being able to partake in the dorm orgies. SAD.
I always figured the lockdown was working to a point. Like how in the last lockdown, it seemed to stall before the variant took off. I'm taking any day we're under 5,000 cases as the vaccine effect. Or whatever. They're just numbers. As for the clots, I'm not sure that's something you can engineer out unless you have a real clear demographic. Although all the J&J clots are in women so ... sounds ... something.

Shinners, can you please get back to the jobs thread with these inane posts, we're done here.
I'll never respect you til you blow something up.
Lol Taz's lack of update means the ladies still not digging Asian meat despite being locked up for 12 months.
Had two pints in a pub this evening. Quite excellent.
No longer at his in-laws. We've got him back, lads.
Rip giggles.
Cricket bullshit latest: after a late revision yesterday, spectators have now been banned again until mid-May. So you are allowed to come and use our outdoor hospitality at the ground, but you're not allowed to be a spectator. I presume we will be putting black screens up on all our tables in case anyone is tempted to have a peek at the match going on.
Either that or we are just going to ignore these fucking stupid regulations.
I'd love to sit in on the meetings where they come up with this shit.
According to my sources it all comes from the idea that there were some outbreaks last September/October associated with spectators at grassroots football in the north of England. Because of that the government nerds (who have probably never visited a sports pitch in their life) want spectators banned, but obviously they can't only ban football spectators, as the football people would have a massive cry, so they have to ban spectators at all sports. However, obviously many sports clubs have an associated bar or even restaurant area, which are now allowed to open for outdoor seating along with pubs, and they can't selectively shut those down because that would also be discrimination. So you end up with a ridiculous scenario where people can sit on tables of 6 outside a building, but an old man with a dog isn't allowed to sit on a bench on his own, in the open air, 100 yards away.
Ona similarly lol note, we got told a year ago to stop seeing our family because some fatties were dying
90% false positive rate on those rapid tests.
Wasn't the actual stat that the rapid tests were picking up something like 90% of positives (so 10% false negatives?) and that 1 in 1000 returns as a false positive?
The sensitivity of lateral flow tests are amazing with very good specificity. That is to say if you test negative you are extremely unlikely to have the disease. But if you test positive it’s only around a 75% probability you actually are positive, so 25% will test positive and not actually have covid.
Anyone else noticed novid has resulted in everyone coming up with their own way of making something sound shite or amazing depending on what they are arguing.
Just got back from a pub lunch and it was truly glorious. Wasn't that fussed about going until I got there and then memories flooded back of what normal life felt like. Highly recommend it.
My first round of golf back last week was amazing, even though I didn't strike one properly until the 9th hole. Sunk a 25 footer for par and actually felt joy. Had long since forgotten that.

And this is what happens when you fuck about over 1 in a million side effects.
I'm pretty sure it's some kind of conspiracy by the other (profit-making) vaccines. That said, Malawi (and all its neighbours) are massive idiots.
There's definitely some competitive bullshit going on. Pfizer and Moderna should release their clottery numbers. All these vaccines using the same methodology but AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson are being scapegoated.
They're all mRNA jabs, aren't they?
Moderna and Pfizer are mRNA, yeah. Oxford and J&J use a reconstructed virus that delivers the viral proteins.
Ah, I all had them down as doing the same work. It appears the EU's going to bin those two off as soon as the contracts expire.
I've got a mate from Malawi called Milembo. Met him whilst I was cycling home pissed one night about 3am and saw him dancing in in the street. Gotta be the only Malawi national to have lived in both Jersey and Guernsey, but you never know.
Course you do mate.
