I don't really understand the question. It's popular because it's low maintenance, if you want you could pick it up for 20 minutes and get something out of it and if you've got a decent collection of people you may have a laugh.
It's basically a take on Mafia / Werewolf but it doesn't take a week and you don't get punished for active participation.
Maybe I’m mixing it up with something else, when I looked it up it seemed to be the next big thing with the kids which seems strange if it’s a werewolf game.
I imagine kids must be playing it too if Magic's daughter is.
The reason it's as popular as it is is because some streamers picked it up and played it.
It's not an amazing game or anything, but it's fun because you can get a group of folk together and play something that requires little investment in terms of time or effort and slag each other off for being lying bastards in the meantime. That is pretty much all there is to it.
