lol at our politicians falling over themselves to condemn it like it's an actual coup attempt.

To be fair, this could be a lot worse if the average Trump supporter had more than 4 brain cells and an actual plan beyond "hurr durr let's take some photos in the Capitol." The problem is not so much what happened (because you're right, it's not an 'actual' coup attempt), but it's a signal to others with perhaps more malicious intentions about how easy it would be.
It's easy because they haven't just wasted them, which they would if they weren't a bunch of obvious tits.
Christ.
Jon Sopel absolutely STAGGERED that so many people can believe that the election was bent and the President-elect is controlled by a foreign power.
Dude looks straight out of Tenet. The Punisher logo.
It's insane to me that Twitter hasn't at least suspended Donald at this point. I get that this drives e n g a g e m e n t, but he's completely unhinged.
Presumably it would help if he were to tweet a stronger rebuke at some point.
Jesus, the unstoppable seething anger in the Trump mongs 'interviewed' in ITV's report. You can't contest that on a logical platform. A bullet in the head would be a sweet release for most of them.
It makes one realise what events like the French revolution must have been like, just throngs of people overtaken by aimless fury.
Twitter have banned Trump for 12 hours apparently
They also deleted two of his tweets, which is interesting.
Can Twitter legally delete his tweets? Mustn't all of the president's written (lol) statements be entered into the record by law?
What were Trump's deleted tweets?
Mitch McConnell going on about 'insurrection', Chuck Schumer comparing it to Pearl Harbor. They're going to milk this for decades.
'One of the darkest days in recent American history'. Really?
Senator from Colorado bringing up the fall of the Roman Republic.
Here are the tweets that were deleted btw:
That first one...
This is a masterpiece.
And what a much better job we did of it.
Is Donald going to end this blowing his own brains out?
Three died in 'medical emergencies' as well as the one who got shot? Did they have heart attacks from the excitement of it all, or did they literally shit themselves to death?
On another note, Twitter is almost unreadable from the grandstanding lefties, particularly the Brits.
The (far) right and the (far) left are equally absurd at the moment. Fully mental. I got told that being a centrist means I must be neutral about genocide the other day. Apparently only left wing people are anti-genocide, right wing people are pro-genocide and then there's me in the middle not caring.
That she managed to have such a simplistic world view at the same time as carrying a truckload of superiority was impressive.
I honestly don't think so. It's pretty significant that the President held a rally whipping people up about the 'stolen election' right before this and then actively encouraged his supporters as they interrupted the confirmation of the President elect. People died during it. I think even the GOP will be railing against this for a while because who knows who the nutters were going to execute after they did Pelosi.
People died during BLM, Sandyhook, etc. Fast forward a month... nobody cares anymore. On to the next news item.
Surely these blokes will get more than a slap on th wrists.

All said and done, and 138 Republicans still voted to sustain the objection.
Not sure how true that is tbf.
"On accident" might be the thing that annoys me most about America.
They have many similar such atrocities. The one that winds me up is pronouncing 'Carlos' to rhyme with 'dose', instead of 'doss'.
I liked it.
Imagine how dumb you'd have to be to be there in the first place, then how much dumber you'd have to get to let yourself be filmed mid-ransack, waving at the cameras even.
This sort of thing is what I find laughable:
How self-important do you want to be?David Lammy

Donald Trump is an enemy of democracy. Every British politician who failed to condemn his actions after the Presidential election should issue an apology tonight.
Not like David Lammy that.
I want to see Trump in his office with a pistol in his hand refusing to leave.
This is partly what I meant by milking it for decades. They will condense 'Trumpism' into this, so next time somebody going for the party ticket suggests kicking immigrants about or regulating social media Mitt Romney and a bunch of bowtie war criminals will sign an open letter mewling about this.
You invaded Canada fellas.
You won't be able to see Trump on instagram or facebook for a bit.
