Interesting that Liverpool got to 600 cases per 1000 and it was tier 3 and just ‘scruffy northerners, don’t wash their hands’ but areas in the south east are up to 200 cases per 1000 and a new tier is created, schools are closed, and the government start to care.
The north south divide will never go away.

I wonder what Harold is doing.
I meant south east. Soz. Was cos I wrote north west originally but switched to Liverpool, and got my words crossed.
And still well below Liverpool City Region numbers.

It's at 800 or more in parts of north Kent and Essex, which is where the Tier 4 will be.
Dirty southerners, don’t wash their hands.
Point still stands though. There was no sign of schools closing up north when we were on our arses.
I never expected mass testing for those without symptoms to be so successful though.

No, the government has been working on the idea that if everyone stuck to everything strictly in the buildup then hopefully things would be well controlled enough that we could get away with relaxing restrictions over Christmas.
It wasn't a reward for being well behaved that might be unfairly taken away. It's that if things aren't sufficiently well under control then it may not be safe to proceed with the plans and they will rightly have to change them.
RL now defending the Tories from Jimmy's attack?
I drove back to Berkshire from Wales yesterday so its not like Im going to change my plans now and head back home. Surely people are just going to do what they like anyway.
The Christmas stuff was the government meeting people half-way and trying to put some sort of limits on what would have been people doing what they wanted.
One of the better Boris Johnson speeches.
This new variant sounds fun.
The world-beating British virus.![]()
Changing from being allowed to mix 3 bubbles “over the Christmas period” (23-27th) to now just being “on Christmas Day,” presuming people actually follow the rules, is going to have a negative effect, surely? Like my plans were to see my parents on Christmas Day, and then visit my in-laws on Boxing Day. Now Boris is forcing me to visit both on the same day and risk spreading germs.
I will be sticking to my original plan.

Are you changing your lungs at the same time?
This light at the end of the tunnel nonsense needs to stop.
Its a drain to be told to follow the rules for months and months, and to be given the carrot of a few days to spend with your family over Christmas, only with less than a week to go, be told its cancelled and this dreary lockdown is to continue indefinitely.
I havent seen my parents for 10 months (and subsequently my daughter hasnt seen her grandparents for that long either) and its a real fucking mental drag in all honesty.
My parents both had COVID less than 6 weeks ago, so I really dont think its an issue to spend Christmas with them, just for some small enjoyment in a really depressing year, even though theyre in Tier 4.
Remember earlier in the week when the government launched legal action against a council in London to keep schools open?
Hopefully 'Boris Johnson knew' - or #BJK for short - becomes a Christmas trend.
Yeah, because there's a global pandemic on and cases are getting out of control (not in small part due to a new strain). The real issue is that they had to promise people things to get them to behave, because unfortunately people are fucking toddlers.
If they'd said "we really hope you'll be able to see family at Christmas if everyone sticks to the rules, but we can't predict exactly how things will go and so we can't make promises", how do you think people would have acted?
Wales going into lockdown from midnight too.
Keir 'Sir Keir Starmer' Starmer here, saying that a) they support this; b) but it has ruined people's plans; c) which he wouldn't have let them make anyway; d) Boris Johnson should be more decisive.
This new strain is made up anyway, just so they can blame it for London’s rates rocketing. No other countries* have this new strain.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen it if you have it.
Kuenssberg is now starring in her own features. Make it stop.
Imagine Milliband leading us through this.
If there's one thing worse than this pandemic, it's the thought of the same pandemic but with Tony Blair simpering his way through the press conferences in his shit vicar voice.
Gordon Brown would have suited it, with his doom face, doom voice and just general air of doom.
Go sit in the corner with magic.
