Eat Out to Help Out Scheme

Was going to ask in COVID thread but may as well encourage participation with a shiny poll and risk splitting discussion. Just over a week of the four week scheme down, have you used it?

Stats indicate heavy use, the most amusing point of which is you just know a good portion of the masses who tweeted 'MY KIDS ARE DYING BUT RISHI GIVES US A FREE NANDOS FUCK NAZI BRITAIN' are blatantly loving it.

I haven't. Monday - Wednesday is no use to me unless it's a takeaway.

I have used it. Me and seven lads lads lads went for our normal Tuesday post-training pizza/drinks at a place on the high street, ordered a total of eight large pizzas (they do BOGOF on a Tuesday night), those who were driving had soft drinks instead of beers. Gorged and drank to our hearts' content. Split the bill equally eight ways. Came back as £3.71 each.

    Love you Rishi.

I have no opinion of it.

I've had half-priced ice cream at the farm, which I presume was due to this scheme, but it saved me like £4.

I rarely go out for tea "eat out" if it's not a Friday or Saturday so its bollocks anyway.

I haven't used it but I'm not averse to doing so.

Is there a reason I'm supposed to hate it?

Twitter seems to hate it because it's supposedly dishing out freebies to the (presumably evil) middle class while there are people lining up at foodbanks, seemingly missing the point that it's aimed at helping restaurants and by extension their many, many low paid staff.

I was on holiday last week so used it Mon-Wed for lunch while we were out. I would've had lunch in the restaurant next door to the office today, but they appear to be the only restaurant in the area that hasn't signed up to it.

    Three times so far.

The best was last Monday, two meals and two desserts came to £11.

I went to Taco Bell yesterday and paid £3.50 for a meal that felt overpriced even with 50% off.

I used it last week in Kew and it was a mixed bag. It was on expenses so good, but I ordered something crap. I might go for a mooch and use it later.

The work canteen has somehow swindled its way into this. I was only in Mon-Wed last week but Monday people seemed to be surprised to learn it was a thing, then by Wednesday the canteen was cleared out. Speaking to the woman behind the counter, she reckons people were coming in and doubling and tripling their normal portions.

Did it last week for my wife's birthday which was sorted before this came about so it was a little bonus. Best part is that it's automatic and I don't have to get a money off voucher out like I did on our first date.

A steak restaurant told me they were fully booked but then let a couple behind me in. Just say you don't want to waste a table on one saddo. I can handle that sensible policy. Elsewhere, I saw a bloke trying to argue the expected one hour wait down, as if they somehow have the power to do that.

People with kids are the best at that shit (I appreciate I am one of them).

an hour wait? Tyler-Tyler hasn't eaten since lunch and he only has 18% on his tablet!

Stroll in there in 3 months time as they look to salvage what they can from the remnants of the business.

They opened in March and were putting their own half-price vouchers through doors the week they got shut down. Fucking slags, bobbing along on my taxes.

Having just eaten it, I can confirm I still paid too much. They gave me a single, not a double, and the coffee was shit (it's normally quite good), and the hash brown tasted like it was left over from yesterday.

Went out for my Rishi discount curry tonight. Turned up at the restaurant and it was absolutely rammed. Forget the pandemic, they seemed to have more tables in there than they normally would.

So we thought screw that and went to a curry house that wasn't providing a Rishi deal, which was much more pleasant.

So far, my two Rishi dining discount meals haven't gone to plan.
