Frig. The way that just ballooned makes me wonder if they've got hydrogen tanks or something by the docks. Also, whilst I don't fancy feeling an explosion, I wouldn't mind being caught in an earthquake. Just enough to feel a wobble.
Explosives warehouse.
Looks like fireworks or similar, you can see things touching off before the whole lot goes up.
Fireworks could hardly do that could they? Sure it’s explosives.
What do you think fireworks are made of?
Because that's what it looks like, it could be munitions of some sort but far less likely.
Explosives are explosives, whether you're going to put them in munitions or catherine wheels they're all basically the same sort of stuff. Touch off enough at once and this is what you'll get, I say fireworks because firework factories/warehouses are many times more common that munitions depots. I suppose it could be fertilizer or something but again, same sort of stuff.
Fireworks and probably some other industrial stuff knocking about. I saw someone suggest wheat silos, which would work.

A couple of historical bangs. They don't happen often but... when they do, docks and ships pop.
Phew.
Have we got an official fireworks sponsor?
Fireworks are mostly just gunpower.
I find it hard to comprehend that almost any amount of fireworks could make an explosion that big but that may just be failure of my brain
They were just trying to blow up Covid.
It looks more spectacular than it actually is. The death toll won't be particularly high, and all of the surrounding structures are pretty flimsy, so you just get a load of dust and crap blowing all over making it look like half the city has gone up.
Seems the fireworks set off the sodium nitrate.
Reported 40 dead at the mo.

Incredible photo.
Edit: I don't know how you do that fancy link so you can see the tweet. A lot has changed since I left here and returned.
That way.
Beauty. Thanks.
It looks like a fucking nuke going off.
I wonder how long the chemical was really there. May have been preemptive.
Nah, always bet on negligence.
I see Donald has already claimed it was an attack/bomb that caused it.
"And, y'know, I'm probably the better at knowing what a bombing is than anybody else you've ever interviewed..."
The explosion itself looks like a nuke going off, but nothing that happened before hand makes it look like a bomb.
This is weird.
A US college football coach reprimanded for using the n word, whilst asking a player to stop using it.

I assume it's the cloud everyone is latching onto, that shape isn't exclusive to nukes it happens with any explosion that creates the right column of hot/expanding gases. Nukes just tend to be better at it than other bombs.
I grew up with Lebanese people only so Im biased.
If it was a nuke I somehow doubt there would be people posting mobile phone camera clips of it from seemingly a few km away.
The reaction to this is mental. It's a plane crash-like body count and probably less property damage (cost-wise) than the recent Justice for Derek Chauvin protests. Yet the world is chimping itself off like they've had some mega earthquake and thousands missing. Why? It can't be the novelty value because the Chinese had a massive bang a few years ago and we all just lolled.
Because it is a dramatic explosion captured on camera? The body count might not be as high as something like 9/11 but the footage is reminiscent of it.
Probably because it's just something to talk about that isn't Johnson, Trump or wankers banging on about facemasks.
Lebanese are on-brand. Struggling people but fit. Those Caramel ladies
Plus they've probably ran out of scaremongering bullshit so could do with a week off to replenish the Northern city centre stock footage database.
He's not wrong. Look at the figure on her....right before the explosion ruins her wedding day.
Bride poses for photo seconds before explosion

I'll be honest, the image of her being blown off her feet is funny. Also, I second Lebanese women being right up there.
The pictures of the crater are pretty bonkers.
I still think Mossad did it.
