I got really bored of Neville banging on about Romeu last night for what felt like about half the match.
That Romeu incident is a bloody joke. Genuinely pointless having VAR if the people checking are unable to ref the game.
VAR since the break has been terrible, every game I watch they get something completely wrong.
Was the Romeu foul overlooked as the referee saw it and gave a punishment already?
Nice to see us get a decision go for us at Old Trafford for a change as it was a pretty obvious red.
VAR is just terrible full stop.
It doesn't 'correct' anywhere near enough 'howlers' (whether this is because they are less prevalent in a VAR system I don't know) to offset the harm it does with all the armpit offsides and brushed the hand disallowed goals (although that's not specifically VAR's fault). Add in the fact that it is just getting things objectively wrong quite often now I'm not sure really what it is bringing to the game.
The commentary at the time said VAR hadn't spoke to the referee about it and they were just checking it themselves so I dunno how the rules work there but it sounds like they didn't want to overrule the ref anyway as nothing came of it.
Any referee in the modern game who refuses to use the pitch side monitor should be sacked.
