Texans schedule is brutal first half of the year.
Texans schedule is brutal first half of the year.
If the reports are true, deandre baker will not be playing again in the NFL.
First round pick too.

Up there with Greg Robinson levels of stupidity.
The Skins got a pick in return for Dunbar so they've accidentally donned it.

When I saw the Tweet linking to the article I thought it was from The Onion.
If a team hires a minority head coach, that team, in the draft preceding the coach's second season, would move up six spots from where it is slotted to pick in the third round. A team would jump 10 spots under the same scenario for hiring a person of color as its primary football executive, a position more commonly known as general manager.
If a team were to fill both positions with diverse candidates in the same year, that club could jump 16 spots -- six for the coach, 10 for the GM -- and potentially move from the top of the third round to the middle of the second round. Another incentive: a team's fourth-round pick would climb five spots in the draft preceding the coach's or GM's third year if he is still with the team. That is considered significant because Steve Wilks and Vance Joseph, two of the four African-American head coaches hired since 2017, were fired after one and two seasons, respectively.
That’s fucking ridiculous.
No issues with the problem they're trying to solve here but that's not the way to do it.
Best man for the job.
The way society is worried about a lack of diversity in management of various organisations and peddling to public conception trying to resolve it is just horrifying when you actually start to understand what’s happening.
I challenged my companies regional VP HR on it and the way the message was being sent. Basically, they’re going to do whatever it takes to meet the quota they want. Fixing the process to ensure it’s a fair completion isn’t the end goal or acceptable apparently. The quota must be met. The NFL is clearly no different to that.
The selection process is already frequently borked in all organisations, it's just now in a way that many people are happy to pretend is fine because the "who's the best white dude?" policy works in their favour.
Hitting quotas isn't really the way to fix it but outside of the perception of swivel-eyed gammons the person is probably likely to be neither significantly better or worse at their job, it's just if they happen to be a meh woman or minority people will decide it's somehow TOKENISM that caused the person to not be as good at telling roidy meatheads to run into each other real hard.
They’re not long enough removed from all the slavery stuff to be rational about things like this I suppose.
The college teams need to do more.
How are minorities meant to get coaching jobs in the NFL (the bigger positions) with little to no experience?
NFL players sure do love guns - first we had Baker & Dunbar, and in the last couple of days we’ve added Cody Latimer & Ed Oliver (ffs).
Are any of those high end players?
Ed Oliver was a first rounder last year and had a decent first season.
I think I’d heard his name, and Latimers too. I just hadn’t seen a massive amount of coverage of it so thought they must all be backups.
To be honest I had Latimer confused with Lattimore. The former appears to be nobody.
Lattimore would be who I’m thinking of too.
Ed Oliver’s was pretty minor on the grand scheme of things the nfl would be worried about. DWI and having an unlawful weapon in his car.
Can imagine there’s tens or hundreds of thousands of those in America.
He’s an idiot, no doubt. But it’s not a “going to get released and go to jail” sort of event. Might lose some guarantees in his contract though but he will have already been paid about 70% of his contract value anyway.
Looks like there was an attempt to bring in the 4th and 15 alternative to the onside kick. I believe it was trialled in the pro bowl last year? Or in pre-season. I forget which.
Looks like it's failed as it is, but they may re-work it.
Pity. The onside kick is a waste of time.
I’d be on for going the whole hog and having an option of 4th and 20 for all kickoffs.
I see Brees is a card-carrying member of the "b-b-b-but the TROOPS " wanker brigade.
Pity.
EDIT: Oh, and Fangio also tried a "no racism in the NFL" gambit and had to apologies after presumably being harangued.
Malcolm Jenkins telling Brees to "shut the fuck up" is a highlight from the backlash.
Very typical of the sheltered white guy not getting the problem because he's never had to deal with it.
Brees is getting a pasting by everyone, including teammates:
Even big Rog' is waking up, even if he recorded it with a potato.
Yet when someone (Kap) peacefully protested he got them out of the league as soon as possible.
That's the single most disingenuous statement I've heard in long time.
Multiple Cowboys and Texans have the 'Rona.
Only player confirmed so far is Zeke.
Think Texas in general is seeing a big uptick again.
I forgot that they were pro-nonce.
The Patriots have signed Newton on a 1 year deal
Pats have also been caught filming the Bengals sideline and fined $1.1m and docked their third round pick next draft.
Why film the Bengals though? You want to find out just how shit they really are?
Several major sponsors are putting big pressure on the Redskins to change their name.
FedEx, who sponsor the stadium have. Nike have withdrawn all references to them on their website and searching them comes up with no results. Pepsi have also joined in.
They've always insisted they will never change it, but I don't see how they keep it now.
I dunno why they haven't done it before now when they could have taken credit for how progressive they're being. You achieve nothing by having to be bullied into not being a bellend.
They were also planning on buying the site that the RFK stadium is on in Washington but the owners have said they'll only sell if the name is changed.
Hopefully they become the Washington Sentinels.
Are KC going to have to go the same way or is their native american iconography not racist?
They don't have much iconography do they? The arrow in their logo and the name itself is probably enough to fuck them once the Redskins are out of the way though.
The Cleveland Indians will probably be the next sports team into the flogging chair though, they're not too far removed from having a man dressed as a pissed Sioux as their mascot.
A review means they're definitely doing it but they want to work out how to spin it as best as possible because "We caved to pressure" isn't good PR.
Have the Chiefs said they're reviewing too, then? If they have my Google-fu is failing me.
No, the Indians.
Aye, nothing yet, but KC must be the next cab off the outrage rank. Then the Browns. Then the All Blacks.
Wowzers.
This could be an utterly groundbreaking deal. Imagine if he's getting 20% of the cap every year, fully guaranteed

The Kansas City Mahomes as of next week, clearly.
If it's a base amount he's an idiot.
If it's a percentage of the salary cap he's a genius.
$450m with $140m guaranteed.
I think he'll regret that in a few years when the needle moves and he'll quickly drop out of the top 5 for AAV.
