It’s the ‘AYYYY’ that gets me every time![]()
Brilliant.
I saw that one earlier. It's good, but it doesn't fit the tune properly. Some should get Tommy boy to do it again.
The X-Factor one is gold.
That can't have helped.
Also, Tommy's had his teeth whitened in lockdown. Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon. I still giggle that he commoned his name up.
Hilarious.
All this blackface woe needs to go and lie in its piss. Fucking ridiculous.
Come Fly With Me being pulled due to 'times changing' is an absolute joke, it was last aired originally only 9 years ago ffs.
If Jim Davidson had wandered into the BBC proposing some of the stuff in either that or Little Britain he'd have been kicked out on his arse, but presumably the BBC were falling over themselves to get the quota of prime time content made by homosexuals up and were blinded as a result.
No great loss but it's retarded and if they come for Ali G I'll fucking commit some atrocities against the Black Lives.
I would say Come Fly With Me and Lucas and Walliams generally came from a good place, but in that show they had a character who was the embodiment of the slur Ron Atkinson was sacked for, portrayed by someone who'd blacked up, in 2011.
It's almost a work of genius that they got it on prime time BBC.
Is Tropic Thunder (and, by extension, RD Jr) safe from cancellation?
I think so, because they were satirizing low-budget productions that employ blackface (and specifically addressed it as part of the narrative), but 2020 has been a strange year.
Our BLM protest was today. It was great. I'm editing together footage now, my favourite shot I got so far was this:

Why do all the foreign protests have English signs?
It's a good effort lads, but the only answer I'm accepting is 'because America still has the world on strings and the afflicted will emulate them until the end of time'
That sounds about right, taking your cue from the imperial capital. With that in mind, it's slightly ironic to see people freaking out about this who every other week tend more towards a [pretend] European identity (and who obviously ignored the French police battering protesters every Saturday for months on end).
This sculpture shit seems to be Europe's answer to creating the problem on their shores, news showed one being taken down in Antwerp and another in Canary Wharf. There's apparently one in Shrewsbury getting bad press too, geezer apparently failed to laugh at a Lenny Henry xmas DVD. Buzzing to see Balotelli lead calls for the Colosseum to be flattened.

One of the slave owners having my surname has knocked me off my high horse somewhat.
One of the chosen few descended from both slaves and slave owners.![]()
He was talking about 'foreign protests' and 'the world', much of which - beyond Switzerland - remains in the American cultural orbit. That ties into my second point, which refers more specifically to people in this country. You should read things a couple of times before applying your preconceptions.
What an image (if it comes out).
Keeping the distance as well. Quite beautiful.
They are?
I was watching a Mitchell and Webb recently (their sketch show, maybe 10 years old at most) and they do a scene where they both black up to do some kind of historical battle re-enactment. Mid-scene, one of them turns to the other, breaks character and says: 'Isn't this... you know... a bit racist?' followed by a long explanation of why it is very racist, and taking the piss out of the absurdity of historical re-enactments in general.
I thought it was a good and funny sketch which made a good point, but I bet they wouldn't even be allowed to do that now, a mere few years later.
Link us, pls.
I saw some left wing feminist comedian who was balls deep into BLM get 'cancelled' for something very similiar, I'd be surprised if even those two don't get pounced on by the rabid dogs.
Weren't some people offended at Downey Jr. going blackface in Tropic Thunder, even though the whole point was to take the piss out of Hollywood for using black face... (i haven't seen the film, but heard Downey talking about it).

Context does not make things right, just as it didn't matter who George Floyd was and what he had done. If you can't see why painting your face isn't the same as taking the life of a man, then you're just as bad as those who comitted these acts.
I need to start tweeting views like that. The likes![]()
Tropic Thunder probably should be expunged from history on the basis of it being truly awful.
First they came for Little Britain, and I did not speak out...
Yeah , I know.
He was commemorated as the man behind the development of the docks, so having the statue out the front of the dock museum complex is a good starting point to exploring how all this stuff fitted into society. It's the perfect context for it. It makes it simply an artefact, and no more an endorsement of anything than that T-55 outside the Imperial War Museum North is.
This review into London statues seems to me to be trying to reassure people that it won't be coming for the historically significant tackle (Winston Churchill, Nelson's Column, etc.), but doesn't that just shoot its own argument to bits? If the case for removing monuments is that they exert a malign cultural influence, thereby bolstering all of that bad institutional racism, aren't the high-profile monuments exactly the ones you want to be going for?
Twitter has been gunning for Churchill today;
He also did Gallipoli though so does that even it out?
Not forgetting Dresden.
Yeah he bombed a lot of aryans, the best of the white folk.
