Presumably pointy shoes is the name of a different beer those folk make, either that or Giggles has finally lost it completely.
I was wrong anyway, I was thinking of Wicklow Wolf and not White Hag. Pointy Shoes is a stout by the former, best one I’ve ever had.
It’s normally a turn of phrase for someone disagreeable or those people in work who can talk the talk but do no actual work. The pointy shoe brigade.
That’s basically where the name of the beer came from, there’s a spiel on the can I think.
Went to a fantastic beer festival this weekend. Unlimited pours and ridiculously great beer; according to my untappd, I had 18 different beers and everything was delicious.
I wouldn't darken the door of one here. Regardless of liking beer, there's a big craft beer "scene" here that is populated with absolute wankers who are obsessed with measuring mickeys. If you don't have a beard and one of those stupid loops stretching your ear out you probably wouldn't get past the door anyway.
It was in Brooklyn. Absolutely it's full of beards and although I would admit I am a beer wanker, the full on beer snobs can be avoided pretty easily.
I've had a friend over from the UK this weekend so been on the beers since Thursday night - I am feeling awful today but the beer highlight of the weekend was probably this: https://untappd.com/b/mortalis-brewi...nberry/3507209 or this: https://untappd.com/b/vitamin-sea-br...-sea-2/3408734
@Josh and I shared a ‘Brit Pop!’ from Grimm here in New York. Strawberry, Earl Grey, and Vanilla with some milky smoothness, while still being a kettle sour.
Lovely stuff.
In a pub that has Wicklow Wolf Wildfire on draught
Well I've got a Beer52 box waiting for me because I'm a moron and keep forgetting to cancel.
More dark stuff than usual by the looks of it so not all bad.
On the tasters now. The doc is particularly savage.
First of my night is a session IPA but it's by the excellent To Ol and therefore it's pretty damn tasty because these guys know what's up.
This is properly decent stuff.
That Doc is Doc Brown Ale. It's savage stuff but 9%. Currently on Whiplash juicy IPA in another bar and it's gorgeous
I do like a brown ale. Much underrated.
My black ipa is monstrously good
We got a bunch of brewing gear off a mate of mine and my brother-in-law's new house has a big garage they won't actually be putting a car in so it's gonna be our brewhouse at some point.
When I learned today that I'd be working from home for the forseeable future and therefore I wouldn't be in town tomorrow I got my priorities right and went to the bottle shop to get a few in for the weekend.
Pilot and Northern Monk have done, obviously they can't used the brand name, a "Deep Fried Caramel Chocolate Bar Stout" so of course I bought that.
I got this.
Oh, Broken Dream.
A glorious beer.
Actually, Samuel Smiths is better too. But still.
I don't want anybody to be left out so I'll just have one of the Siren and Samuel Smith's.
I’ve requested the smiths in the local place but they haven’t heeded yet. They stock the India pale, lager, and chocolate stout though so there’s hope. I seen today they’ve that Doc Brown Ale on their taps too so I’m bringing the 2 litre growler tomorrow for a fill
I've not got a growler out of anywhere yet but there are a few places in Glasgow that do them.
Brewdog sell them and they'll fill anything they have on tap with it, as I understand it.
Going to a pub this afternoon with The Reid to watch the racing. He goes there every Saturday with his family and drinks Gay Affair (strawberry and lime Kopparberg). From memory, my choices of drink are Guinness, John Smiths or Coors Light.
Best case scenario is it’s actually Tetleys rather than JS and I can drink that.
I'm a twit
Of that I'd drink Guinness and it's not even close.
I'd have said lager over some "smooth flow" shite but Coors Light....
I suppose it is Paddy’sDayWeekend.
I'm a twit
John Smith’s it is.
I'm a twit
Oh yes, I'm all about that.
Pictures could maybe do with a spoiler tag though. :P
They’re probably fucking huge on desktop are they?
We need a virtual session on Zoom some evening
I mean that might have to be a pub substitute now the apocalypse is nigh.
My local pub posted on Facebook, they’re opening the doors today, if you take a container like a pop bottle, they’ll fill it up with a cask ale or keg beer free of charge.
I was in a chippy the other day and they had marked out spacing on the floor for customers in bright orange gaffer tape and appeared to be building some sort of external scaffolding structure to deal with queuing. A laudable effort I thought, although the chips are probably worse for you.
Not sure what's really to be gained by giving the beer away though, other than avoiding waste, they should at least charge something for it.
They’re asking for donations to charity.
I'm a twit
I've been driven to early evening Boulevardiers as per Luca's previous recommendation and they are thoroughly decent.
A Manhattan with orange and Angostura bitters and a fuck-ton of cherries is another drink on rotation here.
I wish I could do drinks like that but I hate spirits.
I had this the other day (not my photo), which was lush:
APA style, with Bastogne yeast and Noble hops. Very drinkable.
That's a point. Any footage on the TV of people having fun, shaking hands or being in close contact with one another will soon have to have a 'Speaking in 2019' graphic on it, as if they've all just died.
Order from the Deer arriving tomorrow
Went for a mixture of the stout, black lightning, Rua, and 5 Stags.

These are well worth a look @Ian if you see them.
