Is there anyone who doesn't get on the sauce? Have you ever done a stretch of sobriety? Did you reap the benefits?

Lewis and Mahow are tee total I believe.
Ian.
With the exception of the odd beer (maybe one so far this year) I don't drink either.
I haven’t had a drink since I was about 19. I hadn’t really drunk much before that either. I’m not sure that I’m ‘reaping’ benefits but am hoping my liver is in decent shape.
Beer is the greatest. I don’t fuck with hard alcohol unless I have to, and wine is disgusting but i’ll have that sometimes too
I have never purchsed the devils nectar in my 30 years. Never been drunk. Had less than 10 sips. Its not for me.
Whiskey around Christmas and the odd drink with the guys from work. It's a social thing and, if I'm not out with anyone, I tend to just leave it.
Having a drink is quite enjoyable so no.
I wouldn't describe myself as 'teetotal', which I take to mean someone who abstains from alcohol on weirdo moral/health grounds. I've just never got a taste for the stuff.
I love a drink. One or two or three. As a very quiet, reserved person it helps me loosen up a bit and have more fun. I don't like getting hammered, though. Never seen the point.
I did dry January and it made me want to die. You just need something to take the edge off occasionally.
I am becoming more prone to a Guinness now and then, which is a change I did not see coming. Unless there was a long day/night of drinking ahead, I'd probably choose a Guinness. I'm out next weekend all day, so I might just use the opportunity to explore similar beers. Anybody got any recommendations?
If you're looking for similar to Guinness and can be arsed then if you're in somewhere that has wanky beers/ales on tap just ask if they have any stouts on. Guinness is relatively bland as these things go but they'll let you try a bit, usually, so you're not committing to chuck a few quid down for something you might not then like.
Porters are very similar to Stout, So try some of them n'all.
Imperial Russian Stout.
I'm a twit
Good shout on porters. Talking about 10%+ beers in the sobriety thread, though.
Not even a page before the boozehounds hijacked it.
O'Hara's if you don't want to be pissed in about 4½ minutes.
Aye, Guinness varies from pub to pub for me. The XX Porter version goes down nicer.
Don't think so.
Stouts are the ones that taste the least boozy so even some of the nerdier ones might be a winner for you.
I find the high alcohol content ones to be almost universally shit.
Porters are my favorite type of beer by a wide margin. Unfortunately it is all IPAs and the occasional Stout over here.
I do like all sorts of booze, but sometimes I really fancy something that doesn't really taste of much. Stout or even better a pint of mild over something hoppy any time.
Weighing up doing an as yet undecided amount of time off it. 1-3 months maybe. Nothing mega. 10 weeks off the smokes on Sunday and I'm easing into some midlife crisis health kick, so that's gonna be the next one.
Was ridiculous to begin with. Stayed off the beer for the first couple of weeks, but in the end I needed a few pints just to take the edge off. Packed a load of chewing gum and completely devoured several cocktail sticks/straws. Let's just say I was shit company.
It's sound now though. Had a couple after work earlier, sat in the sun with a load of smokers and didn't really think about it.
And how much better you smell!
A couple more pints and that Llama goes on the prowl. Let him out Jimmy.
Necking Carlings like a proper don
The only mistake you made that night was go home. I believe you weren't around when we started drinking Baileys from someones shoe in the pub.
Yes a shoe. You pour the drink into a shoe, and then use it as a glass.
It's the kind of brilliant idea you get with if you stick with it past 3 beers, mate. Whole world out there.
