Because it still needs a referee's discretion to get it rolling.

Iceland there, bettering our last twenty years of World Cup performances in their first.
Well then I have no idea why that wasn’t given.
I would put my life on Mark Clattenburg wearing brown shoes in that fucking bin they've got him in.
What a time to be alive.
Interview man: 'Gary Neville says we only have one world class player: Harry Kane.'
Bronze Jamie Vardy: 'I disagree. We're all here on merit.'
Haven't caught up on thread but that Pavon trip not being called back for a VAR review is exactly why VAR is fucking useless.
Buddy of mine said "he went down soft that's why they didn't call it" I replied "he's literally stepped on his foot what the fuck is the point of this shit?"
There's too much discretion as to when it's used and when it isn't. I hate to bring it up again but this shit happens in MLS every week. Last week they said one of the Orlando City players stepped on a guy in the box, replay clearly shows he won ball and didn't touch him, but since they didn't call for VAR nothing was changed. Later in the same match, they looked at what seemed to be a pretty straight forward foul, went to VAR, and while they did nothing but uphold the decision to give a yellow, it's too inconsistent.
If there's a referee supposedly watching the screens and in contact with the official on the field how can it be such a pick-and-choose exercise?
I pray that it doesn't happen in that way where a pretty obvious thing that should've been reviewed and reversed is ignored but something else isn't. The VAR-pocalypse really is imminent if they're half as incompetent as our refs (unlikely but possible).
People are still setting off fireworks.
lol
I feel sorry for Messi, really. I cannot wrap my head around a nation like Argentina not producing another playmaker to shoulder the burden. Nobody decided to inject any pace, show a bit of width and it was all so bloody predictable.
I don’t think creativity is their problem, somehow.
Bring back riquelme.
Who decided penalties were guaranteed goals?
It feels like Nigeria have been in Argentina's group for like the last 5 or 6 tournaments or something.
Third in a row, this one.
Edit: They were in the same group in 2002 as well.
Africa used to be in the same pot with the other South American teams and Argentina couldn't be drawn with them. It's still quite the coincidence though seeing as they haven't been in a group with Brazil for example.
Had to double-check Modric had only been charged of perjury. Bang goes my idea of a suspended sentence XI.
Bit dull, this.
It's fucking awful.
Is Mikel Nigeria’s creative midfielder here? Oh lord.
Two Croatian players clashing into each other and losing the ball describes this game best.
Hahahaha the Croats barging into each other and the Nigerian emerging with the ball
Moses is shit at diving. Should really be gone by now.
When's the last time Croatia played good football in a tournament?
They normally look great for two games to get the n00bs frothing before the inevitable collapse comes.
Good decision, that.
Their world cup record, aside from 1998, is much worse than I'd have thought. Never made it past the groups and only beaten Italy and Cameroon.
Jose Mourinho being a pundit on Russia Today is so, so him.
So are Nigeria largely here to decide who wins the group based on who they're least shit against? They were pretty crap last night and with Croatia ahead in the group I don't see Argentina or Iceland having any dead rubbers.
I'm sure they had headlines when USA "beat" England 1-1 too. Good to see they're learning as they embrace the sport.
That basically is a loss for Argentina mind.
Watching Messi being deployed as if he was as ready for the knackers yard as Rooney was painful to watch.
Nigeria are going to refund any supporters who attended yesterday's game due to the poor performance.
All anyone needs to do is send on their bank account number and card pin.
