The man's hilarious.
The man's hilarious.
I'm a twit
Just watched Greg Davies' Netflix special which was good.
The second episode of that Acaster thing has a couple of similarly esoteric routines to the podcast shambles from the first, but they're among the best parts of the episode.
He's very good.
I watched he first one after John's original post and it was indeed brilliant.
I actually think it's quite exciting.
I've been to see quite a few really good comedians where I've thought it was a shame that it'd basically be impossible for them to reach a more mainstream audience, aside from disappointing appearances on panel shows (unless you're Stewart Lee). Acaster was definitely one I put in that category, so it's brilliant he's been given a platform and people other than comedy nerds seem to be enjoying his stuff.
It also reminds me how much I fucking hate panel shows.
It's weird. Go a couple of months without freeview and you forget the format even exists. I've got German/French/Italian/American TV and none of them have it. The closest thing is the French where they basically do Newsnight but with a panel of celebs/comedians to comment on the pieces inbetweeen. So Newsnight basically.
Australia has a bunch of panel shows which are slightly less good than their British equivalents. The only one that was actually good was our version of Never Mind the Buzzcocks (called Spicks and Specks, after the Bee Gees son). It was hosted by Adam Hills, and it was fantastic. Lasted for a while too.
Lee Nelson wears a suit now?
Lee Nelson's career path is bizarre. It's like if Russell Howard decided to be Bill Hicks.
Going the fringe for a week but made the stupid error of booking it for the first week, i.e. before there's time to see what shows are getting a BUZZ etc. Gonna have to just wing it based on who I've seen before and what the lovely comedy nerds on cookdandbombd reckon I should see. Anyone else going?
Yeah. Thousands of wankers.
There's still a sofa up for grabs in our airbnb if you fancy it, Lew. It has a wood fired pizza oven in the garden and everything, I'm sure we can put those Asda deli counter pizzas in it.
You're alright ta. Just bring us back all the Donald Trump zingers.
I have enough faith in my ability to avoid crap sub-radio 4 "political satire" that I'm not really expecting to hear many. I'm too hip for that Marcus Brigstocke shit, brother.
Planned fringe with autistic zeal and it's worked out well. Seen so much bloody great stuff.
Got tickets to see Lost Voice Guy in March.
Im seeing Cum Town live at the end of October. Im still surprised they are touring Australia.
Ooh okay. Natalie Palamides was excellenct, Jordan Brookes was very good, felicity ward was good, tom Neenan was good. We haven't seen Kate berlant but we've had about ten people tell us she's amazing.
But yeah on balance deffo deffo see Palamides and Brookes and ward if you like conventional stand up and Neenan if you like more one man theatre type shit.
And berlant will probably be great based on triangulation of recommendations from about ten people
Sam Campbell is the best comedian I've ever seen.
He looks like he can handle a room well which is 80% of the battle but his actual written jokes are a bit crap.
"I think I'm autistic but I've never been tested, I'm too busy staring at the train timetable" *big laugh*
"It says train y connects to train x, I wish I could connect to a person in a social setting" *another big laugh*
I can definitely see him managing a room full of drunk arseholes at 'The Fringe' where your jokes don't actually matter.
Maybe I'm just sick of comedians that talk about how they're crap at being human beings, of course you are or you wouldn't be up on that stage. No one stable/not broken in some way is making it a career.
The alternative is jokes about 'my awkward mate'.
Norm McDonald has clocked a fucking impressive nought to sixty time on getting the world to think he's an arsehole. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say a bad word about him before this week, while he was dicking around on talk shows like a pound shop Bill Murray. Then this.
He's since issued an apology during which he said one would need to have down syndrome not to feel some sympathy for the victims.Well, Louis [C.K.] and Roseanne [Barr] are the two people I know. And Roseanne was so broken up [after her show’s reboot was cancelled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that. But she was just so broken and just crying constantly. There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, “What about the victims?” But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.
Ah Down Syndromers. Those famously nasty bastards.
Louis Ck's new set.
Is he not tarnished by wanky stuff?
Started doing spots around New York again. The Cellar Comedy club has a policy where they will comp any triggered woman their meal if he drops in unannounced which is lol
I understand the appeal of lolling at triggered SJW cucks and all that Jordan Peterson shit but I mean...he's pretty much an unapologetic sex offender.
Yeah, he's a prick. And I'm saying that as someone who used to think he was great. I loved Louie (the tv show).
Also, what I've heard from the clip doing the rounds he just seems to be this now:
That was most of his act before.
His act is exactly the same.
Eric Lalor next week
Bumping Mics is great. Even though they wheel out every minority comedian to show diversity.
All I see on twitter about that Louis set are do-gooders saying not to 'punch down'.
Fuck off you holier than thou twats.
It was ok when he was taking the piss out of deer but this is *too* far.
I got to see Ricky Gervais for £20 last night because it was a warm up for his next stand up tour which will again be on Netflix. Thought it was great, and only one small mention of Twitter.
His Bruce Jenner bit had me lolling like a daft cunt in his last one.
Ricky Gervais is just the worst try hard these days. You'd call it Brent-esque if that wasn't a bit Brent at this point.
James Acaster is oddly amusing. Highly recommend his Netflix show.
Gervais on Twitter is demented.
I heard a rumour that he is an atheist.
Somehow still better than Graham Linehans 24/7 posting about trans stuff.
All comedians are shit on Twitter.
