Same script writer. Close enough.
Its Brazil, they've probably got about three competent script writers
There's a (related lol) sequel to Elite Squad.
Anyway going for that one. Really fancied Snatch but nah and also downloading Departed (because my over-riding memory of this was how shite the quality of my copy was) and the Long Good Friday because Bob Hoskins.
Tsotsi.
Not really a fan of musicals and I am pretty tired of films about Hollywood, but La La Land was pretty delightful. The coda in particular was just brilliant. Can't begrudge it all the Oscars in will no doubt clean up.
It's the best British film of the past fifty years, and probably the best eighties film, so that's another reason to deck your wife.
Hacksaw Ridge was very well done. The usual 'EMOTION HERE' music during the climax but yeah, what a story. Man's a don.
Fuck me, Patriot's Day didn't half turn on the sentimentality at the end. Good film though, with some properly well done action during the 'manhunt' portion.
I had a chuckle at that too. Up until that point it had been nothing but growling and 'yow motherfuckuh' from the big man, then suddenly he's Wordsworth for ten lines.
Hacksaw Ridge is very good in places, and would make a decent double bill with Patriot's Day in an odd way, but it's a complete fucking mess.
Can you say why it's a mess without spoiling it?
To borrow a line from South Park, you can say what you like about Mel Gibson but the son of a bitch knows story structure.
Also watched War Dogs and it was pretty good. Jonah Hill is just so typecast but I don't think he gives a fuck which is refreshing. The story is pretty accurate as far as I can gather which makes it all the more impressive.
I really liked War Dogs. I suspect it will improve with each viewing too.
It's sort of two films in one and they're entirely incompatible, it's incredibly heavy handed when it comes to both its 'lessons' and its imagery, and it has all the usual problems that come with a 'glory to God' protagonist.
There is a fourth reason, but that would sort of necessitate spoilers to discuss so we'll talk about that when more people have seen it.
It is very good in moments though, Andrew Garfield is absolutely outstanding, and it looks great all the way through. Well worth seeing, but ultimately not as good as I'd hoped.

I watched Passengers today and found it enjoyable but pretty average all things told as they could have done a lot more.
Pratt and Lawrence worked well together.
Its essentially emotional 'porn' in the sense that its no better in signposting the emotional moments than other, lesser films, but the message at its heart resonates as I hold a similar fear in life so when it came to the climax, with 'FEEL NOW' music and all, I was done.
I gave up on Patient Man after five minutes because I just wasn't in the mood for subtitles, so I'll be doing Moonlight tonight while waiting for A Monster Calls to download. I thought the screeners were going to be very thin on the ground this year but they're coming along at quite a nice pace.
I think I actually prefer this to whichever year it was where about twelve dropped on the same day and made choosing what to watch basically impossible.
If you haven't seen/heard much of Moonlight, don't go into it expecting Boyz N The Hood and other similar dramas as I did
Its essentially a stunning film primarily about identity. Took me by surprise completely.
From what I have seen I'd be expecting something closer to Fruitvale Station than Boyz N the Hood, but I haven't seen much at all so I can go into it almost entirely fresh.
Yeah, Moonlight is brilliant.
There are five performances in it that would be worthy of awards recognition if they were expanded a bit but the structure of the piece means there's next to no chance any one actor is on screen long enough to get a look in. It's a predominantly black cast too, so expect some obnoxious cunts to drum up another SO WHITE campaign, particularly if Hidden Figures gets fuck all too.
A film in three acts is a hard thing to nail, as its very hard to fit pivotal moments into a segment whilst portraying that aspect of life, but this just lets it flow, and as you say the performances hammer home the real sense of the guy's life throughout. Mere little snapshots that explain so much.
Mahershala Ali is getting a lot of praise for it, but I loved the lead performance in the final act (even if in the previous two they play it to a tee also).

Changeling
Decent film. Angelina Jolie shouts "MY SON!" a lot.

Watched this. First off, its not a particularly good film, but I did enjoy it. Its let down by one fundamental thing (actual spoiler):

Seems to be plenty rolling out now, in terms of screeners.
I guess Moonlight and A Monster Calls are the ones I should watch asap, right?

Manchester By The Sea
Knackering. Seriously I felt properly drained coming out of it. Parts of hit home quite a lot, to be honest, and it got inside. Very good film but not sure if I can be arsed with it again any time soon.
Split seems to be getting really mixed reviews.
Trainspotting 2 getting some decent reviews too.
I still haven't seen the old one but I seen a trailer for this last night. Was the guy from Elementary in that too?
Kelly MacDonald is in if for a minute. Is that all she's good for? How long was she in No Country for Old Men for?
Christ I can't wait.
It's going to be so shit and so good at the same time.
None of the xXx movies are good.
Started watching Fantastic Beasts but the quality is terrible. Plus it's got Korean subtitles.
Will stick with it as have nothing better to do.

Man... Neon Demon on a great TV + sound set-up was something else.
I have mixed feelings about it, it lost me somewhat in the second act, but I appreciate that Refn is doing something different with it. It's a million times more interesting than Drive.
