I've just upgraded to 200Mb from Virgin, think this doubles my upload to 40Mb too. It cost me a fiver for shipping of the new undoubtedly shit modem they've got.
I don't know why just bragging rights, I guess.

You won't actually get anywhere near the speeds they say though. I have supposed 120Mb from Virgin but I'm actually getting 37Mb.
4 up, 0.3 down here. I can't wait to move somewhere that has even mediocre internet speeds.
I'll attempt a speed test when I get home. It's absolutely atrocious. I think about 0.2-0.4 up and non-existent upload. I have to browse this place on mobile version as it can barely cope with the full site...
Just did a speed test on the phone.
WiFi is 38 down, 13 up. 4G is 28 down, 6 up.
Hardly worth paying for the broadband really.
We pay for 100mb, just did a speed test and got 95.63 download and 6.15 upload.
(Over a wifi connection) Download bumps from anywhere between there and 100.
WiFi won't be anywhere near what you're paying for because WiFi. Mine is fully wired and spot on pretty much all the time.
We're finally getting fibre in a couple of weeks.
God bless.
Doubt I'll be there long enough to get any value out of it and I'm only there three or four nights a week as the rest is spent at my girlfriend's or my parents'. I just rent a place to save a ninety minute commute. I was actually quite surprised to find it could get any connection at all as it's properly in the middle of nowhere.
1.1mbs to Europe
12mb locally.
I get 12mb to Ho Chi Minh.
I can't do a wired connection on mine as it's also the TV box. I might take a look at using an old phone as a permanent hotspot and ditch the broadband altogether.
At work we're pricing up to move to a 1GB leased line.
Apparently my area gets the free upgrades before the end of the month.
I get about 10mb download and maybe 2mb upload at the moment as we haven't bothered to start paying for our internet and that's what we get for free. In all honesty, I don't notice much difference to the faster one we had before we moved here.
Do people with 100mb actually get these speeds away from Speedtest?
For example, if you download a 300mb TV show via a torrent, does it take 3-5 seconds?
Lol 100Mb is only a 10MB transfer rate which you'll not fully get.
I have seen my torrents normally download at 13/14MB a second once it gets up to speed.
I see. So what does the 100mb actually mean, if it's not the transfer rate?
Megabits not Megabytes.
Very common misconception. Around 8 megabits to a megabyte.
Virgin are installing here today, the line is already here so a bit of a shitter that I've had to wait for an engineer, but the gimps who lived here previously were obviously on some shit package that was no doubt TV focused so they're having to come and upgrade the line to give the speeds I need for my package.
Life without the Internet has been sweet in many ways, but it can fuck off now.
Mine had to do that too, was ancient coax.
Fucking wankers stood me up. Couldn't leave the house for the whole wanky 1-6pm time frame they give. Phoned them up and some utter cunt told me it was never happening today as last time I spoke to them it got rescheduled to the 2nd of December, something they didn't fucking tell us at any point, in fact it was the opposite, they sent 3 text messages confirming they were coming today. How do they even know I'm available on the 2nd? (of course I fucking am, but still)
Seething.
Ring them up, moan, and get a discount.
I did and got nothing.
Don't even really care about not having the Internet, it's just being dicked around like that wot makes me seethe.
Still the same fucking upload speed though.
19.65 down, 1.09 up. I dread to think what my parent's connection gets. It really, really chugs nowadays.
I'm back in England and am trying to sort out the normal shit for parents. What are some good phone/broadband deals that people use? TV deals aren't really necessary but if that's thrown in as well then why not. Any help is good.
If you end up favouring Sky fire us a PM so I can refer you and we both get ~Ł75
I'm a twit
Anyone else with Virgin?
Noticed they've been throttling the fuck out of torrents recently, I can barely get over 1mbps. Also YouTube is a pile of shit. I thought it might be YouTube Red but apparently the issue lies within the Virgin core network itself and how it handles caching videos (only from YouTube apparently!).
Does anyone use Plusnet? Are they any good?
We're currently with BT but my dad was complaining about the last bill. They're charging something stupid like Ł29 a month for the internet, Ł17 or so line rental and then Ł6 a month for BT Sport and Ł5 for BT Sport HD (does those really need to be separate packages ffs).
Plusnet are seemingly doing unlimited 50Mbps fibre (I think that's around the speed we have with BT) and line rental for Ł23 a month all in.
Plusnet are owned by BT but are a lot cheaper, which I've never really understand. Or at least, I think they are?
Only ever heard glowing reviews of Plusnet though.
I'm a twit
They're not owned by BT, they use the BT network.
They're owned by BT as well as that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlusnetOn 30 January 2007, Plusnet was acquired by BT Group, but it continues to operate as a separate business.
Still shit.
That upload, though.
So what VPNs do you guys use to torrent? Virgin must have some huge block on p2p traffic now as I can barely get 2mbps.
I don't.
I can get up to 10mbps.
Currently hovering just under 4.
Oh and PTP's tracker is back up
I've got 100 torrents or so on the go right now (4 queued).
Got the new Virgin V6 box coming on Friday.
Anyone got one?
Upped the broadband package when I binned Sky Sports. Didn't get the new router, so that's so much better than before with the Horizon box over WiFi.
Over here the best I can get is 15 Mbps.
Pay like $50 for that shit too.
