You gain from no 'mashed potato' dickheads but you lose a lot more in terms of the cheers and roars and oohs and aahs that create the atmosphere and build/release the tension.

Golf is so much fun, especially when tigger isn't playing so it isn't just a giant American wankfest over the fact that he exists. I guess most people just don't have the patience to watch it but they're missing out on the greatest of sporting theatre/drama.

I'll be honest, I loved the crowds following Tiger when he got his mojo back. It's a great visual and really adds to the moment, like when crowds stream away from Interlagos after Senna bins it.

They are potty for him there in a way that as a Brit I find quite weird - same as they were for Jordan, and Babe Ruth and so on. They only look for one thing in their sports stars which is dominance. They're generally not too interested in the competition, the aim is for the most famous guy to win everything constantly, and it always seems like a huge disappointment to them if someone else wins instead, even if it's another home town hero or a loveable underdog.

They like being dominated, I guess. Over here, we are naturally suspicious of anyone who does too well and look to tear them down as soon as possible. Murray, Hamilton, McIlroy, all would be unconditionally loved over there, but here they are very divisive figures.

Throughout Tiger's heyday I was almost always rooting for the other guy, not because I disliked him, but because it was just boring seeing him win all the time. It's only later on when they get into their dotage that you start liking them and respecting their achievements, as by ageing they have regained some element of underdog status. I nearly started liking Schumacher in his Mercedes stint, but didn't quite complete the journey.

Good to see Brooks crash and burn, the arrogant twat.

Shame about the Bryson train. Not often you see someone really come through the field on days 3 and 4 to win it. Could only happen in the runt major.

After 13 years of not hitting a ball I've gotten back into it in the last couple of months. By Christ how you can stiffen up between 18 and 31.

Willett's win in 2016 was peak golf I think. Can't think of anything that would make the Americans seethe more than him nabbing another.

Yes, it was fantastic. They had a good one for whooping last year, so let's ruin the party again this time around.

Rose would be good for that too. Celebrate with a fist pump and come home.

There have definitely been more lost balls under covid, due to lack of fans. That one was bizarre, though, they were looking in the wrong place. Maybe it was slipped into a green jacket pocket.

World's number 1, 2 and 3 tied for the lead going into round 3 with a whole cluster of good players around and behind them. It's anyone's. There was a half hour period yesterday when DJ seemed set to steam about nine clear before he shat himself as always.

Worst possible outcome is obviously the thought of Fat Pat Reed's sickly smile as Tiger hands him a second green jacket.

I've not watched a whole lot off this, so are they still limiting tv to protect the imaginary patron experience or is it all available as soon as things get underway?

Protecting the non-existent patrons, obvs, although in fairness their online offering is absolutely sensational (you can watch any shot from any player on about a 2 minute delay). They've also developed a new line of fun this year which is banning the CBS commentators from saying the word 'mud'.

For some reason I find him impossible to warm to, really hope he loses the plot as usual. On the other hand, Rory is now ten under par since I completely wrote him off yesterday.

Well he's fucked his tee shot at the 5th.

Edit: Or not, he missed the bunker

Everything right now is going well for DJ.

He hits a crap tee shot it avoids a nasty bunker, hits another tee shot on a par 3 that he instantly groans showing that he hates it and it rolls to within about 12 feet of the hole. He's just hit an approach shot that almost ran in now.

No ones going to catch him if he carries on like this.

Watching Rahm top that rescue and then hit a tree to bounce out of play with the attempted recovery will give any amateur golfer hope.

Tigers hook, failed chip and then 30% putt too.

This is entirely anecdotal but I'm sure Rahm always plays like a cunt alongside DJ. Can remember it happening several times. DJ just alphas you with his cowboy walk and the fact that he doesn't give a shit.

The topped 3 wood off the deck was hilarious.

21 holes to go for Muņoz and 23 for Rahm, 1 shot lead and Rahm is about 40 times the player.
