I'm kind of honoured I'll be getting the drunken lashing tonight though.
It's called "e-windmilling" apparently.
I'd say we should put aside enough for five years of hosting. I know it's optimistic, but I think one year is a given, and five years would give us a degree of security.
I'm still on board with ten years, mind.
My view would be that we secure the site on software / a server that will completely avoid any issues which led to the Great Migration in the first place. Then we can pay for a few years of hosting so we're pretty much sorted.
Bouldy and Goydy.
Stuck in another tenner. Only £20 off the target now.
We've reached the target I set when creating the page (£518) and I'm not sure if it will let people keep donating beyond that.
Just to keep you updated, there are some doubts over whether the current hosting package is the best for the long term plan for the forum. SvN is looking at alternate solutions so that we can continue without having to delete older content. It'll be more expensive but worth it.
The idea for the license is on hold. If we have money left over to purchase a license, then we'll go ahead with that too. However even if we get the legitimate license we'll stay on version 4 (rather than 5) of the forum software, because it works fine and all the modifications are configured to work with 4.2.2.
I'm a twit
I'm happy to trust SvN's judgement on the matter. As I mentioned above, the one thing we need to avoid is the cloud flares etc. which led to having to move here in the first place. If we get that plus the ability to save older threads plus hosting for a few years, then we're well set.
Cloudflare issues was the hosting, not the forum software I'd assume.
The activity tonight is why no more than year on year is needed.
Is it a question of what's "needed"? If this place goes dark and sits here quietly for a few years, it's not exactly the end of the world. It's not likely we're saving the money to invest in our pensions otherwise.
But this way we have the security of knowing that we don't have to go pan-handling every year or so, if it comes to that.
Giggles literally spending his time to come on here to say it's pointless to come on here.
Classic Giggles.
Change your avatar RL please. I dont want to see that juvenile monstrosity every time i log in. You're what's killing the board
Why don't you just fuck off elsewhere Francis?
Fancy a drink tomorrow, Andrew?
Giggles is top. Is the stick he gets in jest?
I'm a twit
I'm with you, giggles. It's meta commentary.
It's like when I note how much Jimmy sucks and how little I find him funny, and he manages to turn it around as "mokbull complains about the board but continues to post on it, what a nob". Yeah mate, your assholes agape with putrid excrement but its all about the state of the board (SOB, copyright claim on that one)
I'm with Mokbull on the RL avatar issue.
It's probably why I think of you as an MRA as well. It's a very MRA avatar.
It's nice to know it's making your life just that little bit worse, Boyd
Pub crawl with Tom.
I always think RL, Foe, and Disco are the same person. I need the avatars to remember which one is the uber cunt.
I'm the paedophile, if it helps.
Boozing with Magic probably starts to drag after the third bout of tears.
Where's Spoon, he better be going to school on the West Coast so we can mob
Doing something alternative I'd imagine.
In all seriousness, I love this place and it's genuinely helped me through some really dark days.
I know I've never been a very good poster and don't interact well, but I really care and I'd go out of my way to help anyone here if I thought I could.
I'll chuck a tenner in when I'm not literally penniless.
Anyway.
I find myself liking people here less and less as the years have gone on, though not all.
I think in general life just makes us more horrible people.
Your problem is that you miss being fat.
Wait? Did Taz donate?
If donations are still accepted, I'd be happy to throw a tenner in too.
What's the latest news here?
Forgot about this. How was the stag do Baz?
It's on me. Baz has suggested a host and I'm going to move a copy of the forum to it and see how it performs. I just haven't done it yet.
