I have got into the unfortunate habit of skipping threads when I see that Harold is the last poster.
As for the original question, I think in the case of well known and/or active members who stop posting it will mostly be a conscious decision to divert their time elsewhere. Browsing here, and especially posting here rather than just reading, does tend to be a form of procrastination.
I think they probably just drift away. It's easy to do when you've got stuff to do. Then they probably just don't bother coming back when they realise they've stopped.

If I could browse TTH without getting distracted by anything else on the internet it would be great. The problem is that it's a gateway to an hour going in circles on Reddit.
Harold is in fine form at the minute. He's learned about feminism (sort of), he's got a new hero, and fuck the rest of us we're going to hear about it whether we like it or not. You could use him in the future to track what people were discussing on Twitter six months earlier.

Yeah I've never understood Reddit as a social media. Here we know stuff about each other; on Reddit you're lucky if you bump into the same person more than once. Though I guess there are smaller subreddits that might have a bit of community spirit.

I never really used to post in many threads before, and its become less again since the move here. I agree that threads have now become more serious with a lot of threads i see. No one seems to care about.
