I don't get this adopting from Romania stuff. There are plenty of abandoned dogs here (British dogs) for people to be taking in. Alright, the Romanians will just gas their strays with exhaust fumes or feed them carrier bags or whatever, but that goes for most of the world.

Our dog charities are all over the top with their rules. Most of them won't let you adopt if you have kids under 11. They're better off lonely in a cage apparently. The dogs that is, obviously.

My sister got a collie from somewhere in Sheffield for about £500 and it's the second best dog I've ever met. First was a collie too. Sometimes I wonder why other types of dog exist.

£500 appears to be a bargain, plus it's British, so if you want more info let me know.

That makes sense then. Is the kids thing because they think you will be more likely to struggle with it?

I'd imagine it's because kids are bellends and they end up with a lot of dogs brought back after they bit the kid that grabbed it's balls.

I always assumed they just don't want to get sued for letting someone rehome a staff only for it to rip a toddlers face off or something

I've found a place that rescues from Cyprus. A higher class of stray than the Romanians I reckon.

Collies are awesome but massive work, the same category of dog as Alsatian etc I wouldn't get one if you aren't a massive dog person and also have a lot of time to spend with them as they can develop bad personality traits if not given the time they need.

Basically the entire trend for adopting abroad, as I see it is fuelled both by people who skim profit as middlemen and people who want dogs but don't want to pay a fortune for a pure breed or jump through the hoops UK charities stipulate for adoption, a lot of which is an arse covering exercise anyway. Wife's friends had a perfectly behaved collie cross then got it into their heads they needed to adopt this Romanian mongrel they saw on facebook and whilst it has settled a bit now I gather that no shoe or remote is safe even after two years, and the vet was less than impressed when presented with it to check over.

Just shop around reputable breeders for a Labrador or Golden Retriever. They are fairly easy and love kids, should be able to get one £500ish.

I know so many people that have been ripped off buying puppies. That's my main problem with it, but the prices don't help. Looking at 2-3 grand for a labrador.

People with kids must make up about 95% of the people who want dogs market so it seems a bit self-defeating for the adoption centres (or whatever they are called) to have that as a deal-breaker.

Massively so and it's annoying because I wouldn't even consider a breeder if I could go through the Dogs Trust or somewhere.

If only you fellas had access to the depressing amount of puppy farms in rural Queensland. The Lockyer Valley alone gets done for all sorts of trendy breeds every year.

We do. Breeders and puppy farms are rife over here to the extent that there's gang involvement and robberies (usually Staffs).

Not a chance you're getting a Labrador for that price.

I like my folks' dog but I'll never get one. The combination of putting your life on hold for it on a daily basis and being sad when it dies is enough to put me off.

Prices just went absolutely nuts when lockdown started and everyone wanted a covid puppy. They've not come back down.

Mine is a rescue. He's brilliant with my son, who is just starting to enjoy playing with him and cuddling him.

It took us a year to get a rescue, and we didn't even have a kid then. We must have applied for 20+ dogs from the Blue Cross.

Prices have gone up, but even pre-covid you were looking at 1-2k for a puppy. How much is left in the kitty SvN? We could start a TTH Puppy Farm from Kiko's in laws Garden.

Depends on the breed. A lot of the breeds which were cheaper have jumped up to the prices of the designer crosses like Cockapoos. Ours was probably 3x what it would have been pre-covid.

That's how I ended up with Charlie. Someone was getting rid of him on Facebook of all things and so I had to take him because I couldn't shake the thought of where he'd end up otherwise.

Cockapoos are very much in fashion, largely due to this twat:

Probably. Problem is numpties (like us) pay them so they'll keep going up. We'll end up in a situation where only Man City can afford a Pomeranian in a few years.
