Pianoimproman is the best thing on Twitch since Twitch Plays Pokemon

So, yesterday/earlier today a stream on Twitch started blowing up, both being hosted by others and ending up on the front page of Reddit. It's essentially a 71-year old man doing piano covers by ear, and he's absolutely incredible at it. Some sort of musical savant, he entered Juilliard at age 10 and is now 61 years later streaming himself playing video game music and Never Gonna Give You Up to 60k+ viewers. Here's the stream:

Someone on Reddit also compiled a list of songs with links to timestamps for the VOD from yesterday:

He listens to a song for like 20-30 seconds and then does an almost perfect cover of it, it's insane. He played Still Dre. Beethoven's 9th is incredible as well. Will bump the thread when he goes live later.

Awesome. His version of I Believe I Can Fly is nice. He's getting an insane amount of donations.

Do we know if he's on the autism spectrum? Not having a dig, genuinely interested.

I was going to say he looks terrific for 71.

    Utterly ridiculous talent.

The mental disability is built into the word 'savant' there, Harold. You don't need to specify that he's 'retarded'.

This bloke is excellent. I remember seeing a kid doing a similar thing on a violin but I might be expanding that and he was just doing Mario covers or something.

This is brilliant. He does't seem autistic to me, just a talented old chap doing his rockin' thing.

Yeah, he seems normal. I don't think this is as unprecedented as some are making it out to be. Obviously I can't do this, but I know a couple people who might come close. It's just a matter of honing that skill for years and years, to where you know exactly what chords are playing, and can make a good guess as to the melody.

You make that sound far easier than it is.

I know a few guitarists who can listen to pretty much any song and replicate the guitar section, but this seems a lot more impressive than that.

His rendition of Sandstorm is pretty good. Not just the musical element but the way he's jumping around and pounding the piano is great.

Looks far too big to be a laptop but there's definitely a screen of some description.

Shit, yeah, I meant a monitor, not a laptop. Looks pretty swish, either way.
