Guys, there's some heavy rumours flying about a Demon Souls remaster on the PS4.

Playing AC on 360, not PC, Shinners.

And I think it's probably as much as anything that people have got more used to open world games since it was released. The game presents you with that mission: "go here, climb a thing, listen to a guy, pick a pocket, perform the assassination, gg" but I've been messing around with different ways of doing them and it's a lot more varied than people give it credit for. Yeah, there's usually the stealth hidden blade "correct" way to do it, but the game doesn't punish you for turning any of the assassinations into a brawl either (except that sometimes the target runs away, but you can always catch him).

I think people were so used to linear narrative games pre-360/PS3 generation that it never occurred to most people that they had a lot more freedom than they were expecting, so they did the least they had to do to get to the next story bit and didn't bother messing around. And it's really not a game that benefits from being rushed.

Although no doubt all of the systems need a lot of polish.

I dunno, that game was promising to be more when it was being demoed. I wanted a 1066 Hitman.

First lesson learned in Dying Light: Destructible environment. And nearly learned it the hard way. Battering a zombie on the roof of a balcony type thing, gave it one last kick when it fell to be sure it wasn't getting back up and smashed me and it through the wood down to the actual balcony.

Man, Dark Souls II is rougher than I remember. Being hit through a fog door interrupts the animation completely and your stamina is so slow to recover. I also read up on the Bloodborne plot and have now decided its pretty great.

I've only played an hour or two but the majority of the characters in Dying Light already seem like idiots. They're supposedly mega-paranoid and yet haven't asked me who I am, allow me to wander about unescorted with a big bit of metal I have now rigged to deliver electric shocks and are immediately entrusting me with their safety.

You really need to pick your fights early on.

And then jjust avoid mobs of fucking drowners altogether, even when you're quite happy taking on gryphons and leshens.

After an hour of tinkering I finally got Dark Souls to work with DSfix and with my Dual Shock 4. Looks great at 60FPS and I'm already seeing some odd things happening. Stuff like getting soft humanity really early on and a titanite shard dropping off the first enemy. Two bosses down, three deaths because Bloodborne's quick healing has spoilt me.

Yeah I think I've left the first area far too early (level 3) so I'm going to go back and grind the fuck out of whatever I can.

I'd also get started on your first set of Witcher armor ASAP (I just cheated and used Google to find out where I could buy the things that tell you where the schematics are) so you don't have to walk around looking like some lunatic warrior-haberdasher.

EDIT: Also if any of you lot have Dying Light I reckon the co-op would be a hoot.

For those interested, here's how Bloodborne finished for me. It's an odd thing. Its certainly a steeper challenge than Dark Souls but the roadblocks felt a little less traumatic. Maybe I know what to look for now. It felt so tough in the early going but that seems par for the course with this series until the numbers go in your favour. Pity I didn't get the lore until I had it explained to me. Might've made me appreciate the turn that game takes.

Just tried out my newly unlocked Bushman AR on some bomb defusal missions. It's fucking great and makes the mild app grinding totally worth it. Also very impressed that the bomb missions don't have silly time limits or anything, I think the various side missions might be some of the best bits of the game, maybe even the ones that make you use the shitty bow.

More Longinus next as a delaying tactic because I suspect the mission that's popped up for Noore is going to be rescuing her mates and I can smell a 'you must do it this way' stealth mission a mile off. Sided with Sabal (or Sable as I cannot stop thinking whenever he's mentioned) for the heroin quest because Amita must lack eyes, ears, and possibly a brain if she thinks there's no other industry in not-Tibet. It's fucking stunning and full to bursting with the rarest animals on earth, not to mention the already installed climbing rigs everywhere. Call Thomas Cook, problem solved. Sable being all angry was quite funny though so I'll probably troll the shit out of him for the rest of the game.

I was toying with grinding arena for the Bushman until I realised a) I had more weapons than I need anyway and b) if I want to mow fuckers down I can choose between either Shredder or Buzzsaw.

The Bushman does look ace though.

I would never have bothered in game as even the 5 round weapon sessions only get you a few hundred points a time (level 10 is at 35000) but the Arena mobile app can be linked to your Uplay account and the points are far easier to earn in that. I did it this morning over breakfast.

I hate Dark Souls II so much. "We have three stats for what used to be the same thing so now your items take forever to get used." I literally cannot get a window to heal against the Persuer. I'm not wasting a parry just to heal.

What's our feelings on the automatic grenade launcher in FC4? I was a little disappointed when I first used it as the individual grenades themselves don't do a huge amount of damage, but then I realised that chaining 3 or 4 together can create complete carnage. It's quite similar to the exploding arrows in that respect, actually.

It's fine, but another near game-breaker.

As I go along I learn that I find there's a very fine balance in your power fantasies between feeling like you're in control of the bad guys and not wanting to feel like you're just clicking on the things you want dead.

    I fucking love it.

    It's probably my favourite weapon.

There's nothing like firing like a mad man from a gyrocopter and realising you've killed people about a mile away.

Although one time I took out about 4 civilians with one

    That was amazing.

Mahow likes firing madly with explosive things while I fly (given he is a liability as a pilot) but sounded almost crestfallen when apparently he'd killed some poor pleb going about his business without even knowing he was there.

At the minute I just use it for heavies and vehicles. It's very handy when helicopters show up.

I just did that mission in Shangri-La where

I very nearly turned off the game mid-mission. Why do they make quests like that?

I enjoyed the defending Uktarsh missions shortly after, though. That's what I like - give me an objective and some enemies to kill and let cool stuff happen around me as I do it.

Just done the obligatory 'haha, we've taken all your stuff away ' mission in Far Cry, weapons available pretty quickly though so it wasn't too long before I was holed up where they couldn't see me sniping their balls off.

I do wonder how I got all my things back though, did Pagan post them back after I escaped?

I just finished Far Cry 4. The game finally discovers a skip function as the credits roll. Anyway, I give that a solid 8/10. Great fun overall, but a boring and lacklustre storyline with several fairly rubbish and predictable Ubisoft missions

My choice for the next game to play is Thief / Shadow of Mordor / Sleeping Dogs. I think I might give a Thief a go.

I'm into THE NORTH, and it's refreshingly different. Rockier terrain, more frequent enemy patrols, and I didn't realise how much I was missing the faff.

Just finished the main missions in Shadow Of Mordor, really enjoyed it the fact I'm a little of a LOTR nut helped a lot aswell.

The Nemesis system is a little "Meh" to be honest as I didn't really feel it made that much of a difference to what was happening in the game world.

Don't think I can be arsed to go back and do all the little side missions etc as I'm way overpowered now and it's all a little to easy.

So its a choice of Alien Isolation or Dark Souls 2 as my next game.

Having smashed Bloodborne and deciding it's close to one of the best games I've ever played, will Dark Souls be a little bit of a let down now?

In relative terms, yes. Its the weakest of the series and I regard its predecessor as a stone-cold classic. The way stamina works in that game will be a real shock to your system. I'll probably wind up enjoying it now I've got the Pursuer down but some of the changes they made from Dark Souls to DS II have rubbed me up the wrong way.

Oh and the North map was way cooler than the South map, in my opinion. Although I spent a regrettably large amount of time in the south compared to the north. I wish I'd battered through the missions earlier on.

I'd read that that happens, yeah. Didn't know you had to visit them to see a bit more though, will fire it up to see what Amita's up to.

I preferred the south in terms of the look of the place. A bit lusher and jollier.

Some of the north was utterly depressing.

I remember riding over to Min's fortress and thinking 'I really wouldn't like to live here'.

It was like the north of England but somehow even worse.

Don't play Dark Souls 2. I put over a hundred hours into it so odd to have me complain about it but compared to Bloodborne or DkS 1 its shambolic and awful. If you can, somehow, get a hold of Dark Souls 1 and be absolutely fricking amazed.

@Ian It's not that I didn't like it as such, the way the orcs would remember if you ran away from a fight or tried setting them on fire etc was pretty cool.

Taking one under your control and getting promoted was fun aswell.

@Shindig Watched a few DS2 reviews on YouTube and they all seem to agree with you on that DS2 is a good game but the weakest of the series.

Maybe the fact I've never played the first game ill enjoy it more than the people who had higher expectations of the game.

Darks Souls 3 is on the horizon so looking forward to that.

Or I could just splash the cash on the DLC for Bloodborne?!?!?

I feel like I'm playing 2 just to plug the lore gaps in preparation for 3. Dark Souls 1 is magnificent.

Dragonrider down on the first try so I'm back where I left off. Found No Man's Wharf which seems to have some fodder in it. Ring of Binding equipped too so I can let the effigies stock up.

Booted up Sleeping Dogs for the first time tonight. Did the first mission and some stick up and delivery one. Good fun so far, I'm liking the fighting style. The best bit is the brutal takedowns when you grapple someone. I do enjoy throwing a guy down a ventilation shaft. The driving doesn't feel like the greatest, but still plenty of fun.

There are loads of cut scenes it seems, but mercifully we're allowed to skip them.
@Nick did you end up buying it?
